Powering up Wild Cards Interest

Hello everyone!

After considering the “release” of wild mini-sets (that I thank for it again!), I came up with an idea to somehow power up wild cards interest to players without being obliged to “move mountains”.
But first, I based my idea by considering the following points:

  • There are players that have played HS for a certain period of time and have a bunch of cards of that period
  • The wild format is too wide to treat and, maybe, by splitting it into tinnier pieces it could be easier to deal with
  • Some players are “nostalgic” of certain years of HS
  • The main format of Legend (Standard) should be kept as the main focus of interest
  • Developing more modes (like BG) has been a key in finding the interest of others players

Based on those points, I propose the following idea:

To create a sub-type of competitions enclosed in each year of HS (year of the kraken, wolf, etc.).

This NOT might be too hard to put into practice (I guess) considering the following points:

  • From a programming perspective it would be like many small “wild formats”, and once it is created, each pool of cards would remain the same (no further developments required)
  • The possibility of adding “Catch up Packs” for each season or year could help a lot the players willing to rapidly taking part in those yearly competitions
  • The format could be like the legendary system but when reaching legend they would grant like a title “Legend of the year of the Kraken” for instance, without further classment
  • Splitting wild into years looks (my guess) not too much splitted (lack of players) but would keep enough interest for old players to come back and find a place to play confortably with their old cards as well as catching up with the latest meta
  • In order to make these yearly competitions less interesting than the current Standard, the prizes should be less important or just reduced to a title or an achievement “Trophy of the Kraken” for instance. At the same time they should keep enough interest to maintain a certain pool of players, otherwise, it could fall into nothingness (once reached, players would no longer play it). Maybe by renewing the trophy yearly or monthly…
  • The possibility of including one or many “NPC players” such as in solo games could make the experience slightly more different (for instance a NPC for each class… the warrior of the Kraken, etc.) and always keeping a certain randomness

Finally, I do apologize for the length of the message. I understand this idea might not been new nor revolutionary. And I totally understand this is just an idea coming from a tiny perspective of the whole game, so I might certainly have missed important points in between. Anyway, thank you for reading and I hope this post could be somehow helpful.

Thanks again for this wonderful game and good game all!
