Plaguespreader drattle xformed a card generated NEXT turn?

The text on the card seems clear enough. It dies, and something in your hand transforms.

Logically, then, if you have no minions in your hand, the deathrattle should do nothing.

Was running a Hunter quest deck, which results in receiving Tavish, Master Marksman.

  1. My turn: Killed the plaguespreader. Deathrattle triggers, but I have no minions in hand to take the hit. End turn.
  2. Opponent takes their turn.
  3. My turn. Cast a spell, complete the quest, receive Tavish – who promptly turns into a plaguespreader.

How did a deathrattle from my opponent’s previous turn affect a card that was generated in the following turn? Is this a bug or intended behavior?
When a card says “next minion”, then yes, you could reasonably expect the effect to linger on and affect a card generated in a following turn. You can plan for that. But this … made no sense.

::visible confusion::

Maybe the Plaguespreader can infect a quest since Tavish is not in your hand but still “there” inside the quest.

A wierd interaction indeed.

That certainly does seem like a bug.

When you cast a spell to complete the quest, did that spell also kill a plaguespreader?

I imagine not, or else you would have said so.

When you cast a spell to complete the quest, did that spell also kill a plaguespreader?

Nope. The board was clear, so the damage spell that triggered the last quest effect was to the face.

Maybe the Plaguespreader can infect a quest …

It does seem like the plaguespreader managed to infect (ha!) some kind of status or state that was sustained between turns. Certainly possibly the quest.
Another possibility would be, IIRC, that I took it out with a Dragonbane shot which then returned to my hand. Wonder if there was some unintended interaction there.

Or heck, why not both? If this only occurs when Tavish is triggered AND the plaguespreader was killed by a Dragonbane shot, it would explain why more folks haven’t encountered it.

Now I’m wondering if anyone else has run into this. Should I cross-post to Multiplayer forum for higher visibility, or is that frowned on?
