“didn’t work” is not a good description of the problem.

Tell us the actual card(s) you played.
Tell us what happened when you played those cards.
Tell us what you expected to happen instead.
I don’t remember but I know it’s happened again with another card that was not a spell that deactivated it (not the coin either). But I know I played life guard then aluneth the next turn I played flame strike and got nothing which led to a loss.
Were you up against a dk?
Did your opponent have a Repulsive Gargantuan on the board? This would prevent you being healed by the lifesteal effect.
