Just tried my hardest to make Excavate/Secret Mage work.
Thanks God that Reno was there to clear my board and board block me to remind me that I should just go back to Sif Mage.
Congrats Blizzard design team.
Back to Sif Mage it is, my bad for trying a new deck after waiting 3 months for the new Mage set.
otk with reno!
dont worry this wild combo depends waaay to much on rng
Try reading what I wrote next time rather than replying of the Title alone
Yeah, Reno, Lone Ranger is a joke. Its total massive power creep on the original:
1 - “Poof” only affects enemy minions.
2 - Locking enemy board to 1 minion next turn severely limits recovery options.
3 - Hero power is a huge upgrade to Mage’s default, and it doesn’t risk randomly screwing you over at the start of your turn.
Of course, the original doesn’t have the highlander restriction. But as long as Steamcleaner exists, highlander decks have a counter to tech that would hurt them.
Overall, though, the highlander restriction is massively important, as it means you can’t evaluate this card “in a vacuum”. You can only consider it as powerful as the deck it goes in. Its probably not a good idea to nerf such a card unless the deck is too powerful overall.
However it “feels bad, man”, means that a card can be considered a “sentiment outlier”, even if it isn’t powerful enuogh to deserve a nerf.
However, Azerite Snake is getting nerfed as a “sentiment outlier”… this means any “feels bad, man” card is a legitimate target for a nerf.
After all, hearthstone is supposed to be fun as well as competitive. If “unfun” uninteractive cards can be nerfed as “sentiment outliers” then a LOT of cards could be nerfed, finally doing something about the stupid power creep in the game.
Of course, its not going to happen
