I went to many concerts in high school. Not Metallica though.
So fast forward and I am in my late 20’s living in my first house. I buy really good tickets to a Metallica concert for me and my buddy. My bro is coming to visit that weekend. About 3 days before my friend calls and says he cannot go. His dad was sick. I understood and was going to just go by myself or ask my bro to go with me if he wanted but he was driving in (long drive) that day.
The morning of the day and my bro arrives fairly early and I am sick. I woke up with a migraine headache (I have always been prone to them). I cannot function. I am in bad shape. No way I can hit the road and go jam out at a concert. It gets to noon and I can barely stand. My bro feels terrible and all that so I was like, “take the tickets man, have fun or toss them.”
He makes a call to a friend of his going to college in a nearby town and they take the tix and go. Long story short. It was the night of their lives. He has told the story many times since. Apparently they got spit on a few times and even got James pic. They have told the stories for years.
My bro said the same thing that every song was sung full throated by everyone there.

So, your bro scalped the tickets for 10x what you paid for them then went to the red light district and/or casino? Thats what my bro woulda done in that situation!
Seriously though it sucks you missed out like that, but I would actually argue its a better use of the tickets. Especially if your bro and his mate hadnt seen 'em live before.

That’s too bad you missed out on that opportunity. They are still touring these days so maybe you will get another chance to see them in concert.
I’ve seen a ton of concerts as well, albeit the majority were all in the 90’s. This was before stubhub so you had to physically go purchase the tickets. We found a place that was selling preferred tickets for a premium. Usually we would get something within the first 10 rows for double or triple the face value. But most tickets were average 30 face so paying 90 or something was a no-brainer.
Those days are long gone along with the quality of bands , especially the Seattle sound.
Here is a mashup of Metallica’s lyrics set to U2’s
music.
I think Chris pulled it off really well.
