[Opinion] Warrior and Shaman miniset cards

Warrior and Shaman are currently the weakest classes. Warrior struggles to make mechs and starships work, while Shaman players have just given up. I guess Asteroid Shaman sees a little play, (according to HSGuru) but I have yet to face one. Now Embers of the World Tree has been announced. I have to say I am disappointed. Here’s why:

Warrior:
The new Warrior cards don’t look overall bad, but also not good enough for a class that is struggling. Nothing seems to fit into already played archetypes and 3 cards aren’t enough to just spawn a new one. I will try to make Dragon Warrior and Midrange Warrior work, just because Warrior is my favorit class, but my hopes aren’t high. That Dragonturtle has potential though.

Shaman:
This is just frustrating to watch! The whole Shaman imbue is a trainwreck to begin with. A minion based Imbue power, but Shaman got an Imbue spell?! Failed card design. All the way through. So Shaman needs a real banger right now, to get back on track. What did they get? A lackluster removal that hits random targets. A 9/9 that seems too slow to do anything. (And will be send straight back to your deck by Shaladrassil.) And a decent arena card, that doesn’t fit in any Shaman archetype. Blizzard, why couldn’t you give Shaman anything that has remotely to do with Imbue? Something that reduces the cost of the hero power. Or a decent Imbue minion. Or some bad stats minion, with a powerful bettlecry, that you then transform. The design of Shaman cards is rock bottom and I have no hopes for this class until next expansion.

What’s your opinion on Warrior and Shaman? Do you think they will have a comeback after the Miniset?

I think the whole miniset was rather underwhelming.

As far as shaman goes the dragon can be used to cheat out murmur on turn 6 again (using the hunter location for 0 mana batthecries)… but if they thought some 9 mana 9/9 was somehow going to rescue elemental decks from being unusable they seriously don’t know their own game. Even doing 9 damage to all enemies its probably too slow to be relevant.

A random 2 mana deal x damage is just unusable due to the randomness.

The 9/9 will be fun for my colifero shaman deck and the dragon will probably see play… but the whole miniset was pretty bland unless you like random yogg type stuff with new firespell yogg… a card I think people will start hating pretty quickly.

I played this deck and there is one major problem: Zarimi Priest.

Any game that goes to the 8-9 round with them is pretty much lost. Asteroids need time to be shuffled into the deck.

Zarimi Priest is like 75% of my matchups.

I am much too lazy and high to find the new cards from those two classes, so can I please count on someone posting them, or the links to them? I would be very grateful for that

I think it’s sometimes hard to predict how a class will do in the upcoming meta, because the meta might change a lot (balance patch inc, new miniset inc…), but sure, I’d like to give it a shot, anyway, because Shaman is in my top 3 classes

Much appreciated!!

  1. Keeper of Flame → looking good, alright, but it’s just more OTK shennanigans, so no-go probably, as people will be sick of those and OTK warrior isn’t that good to begin with, so nah-ah

  2. Dragon Turtle…hmmm even when taking the synergy with the spell below into account, I don’t see this as a great minion. It’s kinda slow and looks…undecided, like, it does too much, but nothing it does is in any way, shape or form related. It’s just a mess of a card, arena staple, IMO.

  3. Shadowflame Suffusion → decent spell. Warrior minions tend to be useful, unless it’s the one above xD Why? Well, partly because discovering that one with this spell wouldn’t help you to activate that minion’s battlecry xDD So that’s one less good discover option in the pool, but in overall, small removal is exactly what Warrior needed. Although AoE small removal would be much, much more appreciated.

OK, that was way too much text for a class I barely even play, so if you have a different opinion, it’s most likely better than mine

  1. Flames of the FIrelord → undecided/depending on the meta, and surely an arena favorite. Much flexibility, as it only costs 2 and for 2 mana, it does the work it’s supposed to do.

  2. Avatar of Destruction → unplayable. Arena favorite.

  3. Emberscarred Whelp → absolutely loaded. Much broken. 3 drops don’t really tend to make or break a game (unless it’s Hunter xD), so I wouldn’t be so much against playing a 3 mana 3/2, especially in tempo decks. That’s not a huge tempo sacrifice and the payout is brutal, as it not only discovers a Shaman 5-drop for you, which are great, but the bonus mana crystal next turn is just INSANE and it means you get to play that 5-drop immediately on turn 4!

Absolutely cracked card. Must include in all Shaman decks, ladder, wild, arena.
