New Tribe "Draenei" is Difficult for Me to Accept

They’re Warcraft’s take on Tieflings from D&D

Nothing in common, as I was about to say… Second thought: only a superficial similarity with some tieflings in terms of hooves and the like… which not all tieflings even have in Planescape, they’re very different there (being essentially half-bloods, or rather their descendants, it depends on their lineage, individual features etc).

But yeah, generally speaking, nothing in common.

well the guy did say he didnt notice these guys features

and those are the oldest ones i could think off he says he didnt notice the similarities between those 3 cards… the only logical reason to not notice them is not seeing them

Seriously, I cannot tell.
And I am glad you showed me these three.
I NEVER knew they have a new tribe now!
Wow

you still cant see it?

Not really. I can’t find a common theme among these three.
Earlier post says they have horns but now they don’t.

Common · Minion · United in Stormwind · Battlecry: If any hero took damage this turn, draw a Shadow spell.

Rare · Minion · Whizbang

Legendary · Minion · Scholomance Academy · Spellburst: Cast a spell from your deck (targets this if possible).

Legendary · Minion · Madness at the Darkmoon Faire · Battlecry: If your deck has no Neutral cards, gain Rush, Lifesteal, Taunt, and Divine Shield.

do you see the common themes now?

Ye-e-e-eah, especially that guy with a helmet…

Nope.

Gotta know what you’re looking for.

I could say, don’t you see an analogy between e.g. the Schoedinger equation and a Helmholtz-type diffraction equation? Gee, ya must be daft or blind.

See what’s missing? The possibility that you don’t even know what that thing is in the first place.

Mine was about women. These guys have those tentacles… squiddy things. Rings a bell?

Btw, they vary from a drainei to a draenei, AFAIK.

By the way, if you’re not familiar with those races, you might be wondering whether that Shieldbearer and the Southsea Squidface belong to the same tribe.

Hmmm…

Southsea Squidface is actually a female character, as her voiceline in the gamefiles is VO_OG_267_Female_Faceless.

I had no idea.

I see.
Male: multiple cords on lower chin, no hair, yes beard.
Female: two horns , yes hair, no beard

Both blueish, both have eyes but no pupil or iris in it.

Were they native denizens of Draenor? I thought they escaped Argus, and the first planet they found was Draenor, and that became their new home after being exiled?

That’s where they adopted the name “Draenei” from their original name of Eredar.

thats a retcon, but your kinda right

I can see the confusion. What is the deal with some having horns while others do not? Blizzard has been rather inconsistent when it comes to Draenei depictions. Used to think they were some space goat boys and girls lol.

What was retconned, and when was it retconned, because this is the first I’m hearing it got retconned. Are we talking WC3 Frozen Throne lore to WoW lore?

yes

Meh, I don’t even consider that a retcon. That was a story addition/augmentation. They clarified that the Draenei in WC3 were the Broken, or Lost Ones that were mutated by Fel, and then introduced the unmutated version in WoW, because the Draenei had journeyed to other planets in the universe.

I have stopped taking Warcraft lore too seriously once I realized it’s mostly Tolkien at home. Good for a game though, it’s not like I play a game to read a better book.

Don’t forget the hooves… and tails — for some?

See below.

Yep.

By the way, Eredar were originally a demonic race (the warlocks out there, essentially), who, together with the Nathrezim (yeah, yeah, I know), caused Sargeras to become mad in the first place — or so I remember from the WC3 manual.

Oh, wait till you see the deal with antlers in Night Elves. :grinning:

Don’t you say it.

Some have even their looks retconned (see re Broken/Lost).

 You ain’t seen nothing yet.

(In Gul’dan’s voice) Everything.

No offence intended, but that looks more like your problem to me. :grinning:

More like ‘completely rewritten’, or, in other words, retconned. :grinning: See above why.

Ha! That’s quite a lark in its own right. As I wrote above, Akama, just like all other ‘Draenei in WC3’, looked exactly like what was retconned to be the ‘Lost’, while they were supposed to be the ‘Broken’. Even their generic appearance was retconned.

You know, if, for example, you realise that the Spider-Man wasn’t even a man called Peter Parker, it was a blonde woman named Balinda Stonehearth, who was just an ordinary mage and had nothing to do with spiders or their stuff, but then she started playing Hearthstone and picked a random BattleTag like ‘(Some_Colour)Spider#(some_numbers)’, then somebody wrote in a chat, ‘Hey, spider man or whatever you’re called, well played’, and thus appeared the dreaded Spider-Man — that, too, would be a ‘story addition/augmentation’, perhaps even less so than what happened with Eredar, Draenei and so on. :grinning:

PS

Yeah, that totally makes sense. :smirk:

Just like, for example, Irish people after their mass exodus to America would drop the name ‘Irish (Americans)’ and adopt a new one — ‘Native Americans’, right? Oh, wait…

This is just an illustration of how… contrived some of their ‘retcons’ are, including this one.

Ha, that doesn’t always help, with ‘tropes’ like ‘Our elves/trolls/… are different’ and so on.

By the way, I would have hardly guessed that the hulking mammoth called the Gurubashi Berserker is of the same race as those slender axe- or spear-throwing trolls from Warcraft. Looked more like some ‘mammoth-man’ to me. So I wouldn’t judge this poster for failing to capture the visual identity of those Draenei.

Wait, no ‘twenty characters’? :grinning: How’d you do that?

Another one with an irresitible urge to tell everybody how you’ve got nothing to say on the topic?

You have totalitarian tendencies. I’m not here to talk the way you want.

Stop trying to get “I win” points on gaming forums (it doesn’t work).

Try a video game to get points, like Hearthstone.

I know imma get roasted for this but… I have bad news for all nerds out there. Tolkien fantasy kinda sucks in the first place. It’s great storytelling, but about as deep as a puddle.

I actually think warcraft has a far more imaginative universe. Its storytelling sucks tho.
