New priest spell: Palm Reading

The first thing I"m going to try now is a priest with 20 removal spells, 2 of this, and some galakrond cards lol.

You don’t need 20 removal spells. Brittlebone Destroyer and Aeon Reaver are removal with a minion body. Also, does priest even have access to 10 unique removal spells?

Meh Priest currently doesn’t need mana cheat. Since wave of apathy, immediate death via board has become highly unlikely.

2,5 on its own. 4/5 only because pyromancer and apotheosis exists, and Hunters gonna cry.

(5/5 in Rez Priest, best addition this year for a dead deck, btw)

A good-ish sign? I hope to be proven wrong, but Resurrect Priest is the only thing that has a chance to getting me to return to Priest in Standard now. Galakrond and Control are just difficult to enjoy.

Its good to see they arent changing anything at all about priest. It would still be a class where you create a deck win no win condition and you would clear anything thrown at you hoping your RNG card generation would give you a win condition or pray that you copy the win condtion of your enemy.

And they wonder why players hate facing that class…

More created by…
This, Renew and Sethekk Veiweaver combined will ensure the biggest clown fiesta when facing Priests.

The art is cool.

It looks like it easily pays for itself. Mana Storage is fun to play and strong.

What is better? Mana cheat on hand or deck? Yes, on hand is definitely better

The goal of Shadow Visions was to draw an extra copy of a specific spell, or to get a specific spell at an important part of the game. As a result, most decks that ran Shadow Visions ran very few spells to make sure that one you discovered was likely to be good. Sure, people used to complain about Renew into Renew, but on average Priest has a lot of bad & situational spells to populate a Discover option.

So this card is without the boost of Shadow Visions; a degree of control over the pool of options.

Historically, you’re wrong. In-hand effects have been predominantly worse than other effects. Compare, for example, N’zoth or DK Gul’dan or Hadronox to cards like Deathwing Dragonlord, Talanji, or Krul the Unshackled. Compare Embiggen to every hand-buff tool. Cards that only affect a specific type of card in hand just haven’t ever been strong enough to be good, and Priest has basically no access to OTKs that could be enabled by the discount.

I just don’t think it’s going to be good.

“Historically wrong”- You have no clue. You are comparing just some random cards…has nothing to do with this one. You can compare this card to Emperor Thaurissan (for spells) and tell me it is bad. This is perfect for combos or OTK

OTK? How exactly is a priest OTKing you? They already can in wild obviously but in standard which most people play?

The problem with this is that it’s a turn 3 pass and a dead card earlier than that. It’s amazing when it works.

Not always, renew or smite can be used, in fact you can use three+ 1 mana spells (that are now 0)…

Priests only win with minions. I could care less about spells now unless they obviously advance a win condition. This class needs strong minions with good secondary effects to make up for the glaring class weaknesses: no draw, no secrets, no weapons, no charge, no rush, no burn spells

So you’ve got this in your hand and 3 other 1-cost spells? That seems pretty situational. I’m not saying it’s horrible. We just don’t have enough combo possibilities in priest to make this beastly right now.

Not three, but against aggro 1 holy smite is acceptable since many play 3 mana minions with 3 healths.

And it reduces every spells by 1 meaning your pyromancer turn will be op. (In fact you may want to play it the turn before pyromancer)

Priest has no nuke damage from hand. None. Divine Spirit is gone as well. The only combo I am aware of is some pretty ridiculous Reckless Rocketeer Grave Runes Embalming Ritual Shadowy Figure shenanigans that is already possible with Galakrond Priest, but is obviously too ridiculously obtuse to work atm. And half the parts are minions which aren’t reduced by this.

I am talking about Standard, like most new card reveal comments will be focused on. Suggesting that I haven’t considered OTKs on a Mana Discount Card is kind of insulting, tbh. What else are they good for?

I’m far more excited about insight than I am about this card (or sadly, any other card priest got)

A 6 mana Soul Mirror, 4 mana Mass Hysteria or 8 mana Plague of Death might save you in certain situations.
A card doesn’t have to instantly win you the game in order to be good(Especially in priest that wins without actually having a win condition).
Based on other discover cards, “discover a spell” in priest is 1 mana. The card you discover will also be reduced by (1). So you need 1 other spell in hand in order for this to be at the level of 3 mana. If you have 2 or more spells in hand(which is pretty easy in priest) this card already does more than 3 mana stuff.
This is not 3 mana do nothing, this is “After that, I will use spells that I should of used 1 mana later” and this is big in some matches, against aggro for example. The importance of coin shows how important is just 1 mana.

Mass Hysteria doesn’t exist in Standard anymore.

“Do nothing” is in context of the turn in which it is played.

You’re in a lot of trouble in an Aggro match if you spend a turn doing nothing but discounting things you might not live long enough to play.

I’m going to be pretty harsh on any card that doesn’t advance you toward winning the game. This really doesn’t do that. It can help you not lose, but it doesn’t advance you toward winning. You’re not discounting spells that will burst down the opponent. A lot of Priest spells are reactive.

Getting a body out on the turn you aoe is very nice, but that’s the limit of the practical applications of the discounts that I can see. And you need the cards you want to discount in hand when you play this.

The obvious push back towards Big Priest does mean the card is up for re-evaluation, since floating mana and counting down toward big things becomes relevant again. Idol of Y’shaarj is a big thing to discount, for example, now that we’re looking through that lens. Generating an additional one is a big deal.

It all remains to be seen now. I’m skeptical that the removal is there for Big Priest to work.
