If you didn’t play Big DH you don’t know the power of 9 mana doggie that can suck opponents board. This is similar effect but could be played on scorpion or wandmaker or any other crap minion making it huge. Definietly it’s a great control and also aggro card as well.
If it doesn’t stack with increase Spell Dmg , it is Trash Card.
Seems like a horrible card to me.
In Standard, Wandmaker rotates out next April.
lol this card is frickin’ amazing. 5/5 card easily
This is the best 1 cost card Priest will have.
You can play this on an enemy as well (yes, there are reasons you would want to do that)
This is an anti-aggro, value control card all wrapped into one.
This card will see tons of play. I don’t think people are using their imagination on what this card really does and what it opens up lol
I can see this card getting nerfed to 2 mana. Hell, I’d run this card for 2 mana maybe even 3.
As someone who sometimes plays with a quest priest deck, I hope this card gets “nerfed” to a cost greater than one.
T1 quest, T2 can’t curve, T3 play a minion, T4: play a 2 mana card?
Yeah quest priest really gets thrown off the rails if it can’t curvestone, i think condemn would be better, but there’s a lot of good lategame aoes but not a lot of decent aoes to survive to play a board clear on turn 7 if you die on turn 5 due to said clears not doing anything before then.
*(Or if it’ll be a quest reward that kills you even despite clear eventually, or just chains of 10/10 1 mana pally minions that are still around even if pally is a bit dormant rn. )
It’s a decent card. It has some excellent use cases. It’s not even close to being priest’s best 1 cost card. I think it won’t find a place in most priest decks. It’s an excellent card to discover. It doesn’t merit a deck slot.
I think people underestimate this card.
Whoever played control priest, knows that the main thing this archetype does is being a nightmare of any aggro or midrange deck. There is really no other reason to choose priest-control, any combo will beat you hard and there are barely any win conditions.
This card does exactly that: just makes an annoy of a minion on the board while dealing AoE for only 1 mana.
Also it’s worth to consider how cheap it is. Wild Raza Priest played alot of times weird cards like potion of madness, power words, holy smite, spirit lash that really only works with Bloodmage Thalnos. Just clear cards that trolls the aggro/midrange opponent that are also cheap enough for Spawn of Shadows.
Cheap clear cards will ALWAYS be played in priest even if they aren’t the best, solely for that “Do nothing, discover alot, clear the board forever” playstyle. God even Power Word : Glory that is not that famous brought me to legend multiple times just because it’s a 1 mana “counter board-based”, and that’s in the crazyness that wild is!
If ruining aggro and midrange is not your main satisfaction in Hearthstone, I’m being very serious don’t start playing control priest → Cause that’s all control priest was designed to do.
this card need a set up, this is why, it is not as good as you would think. For one this Devourer you will need at least 2 minions to fit the card. this is 3 slot in the deck.
People also thought that Power Word : Shield will be bad because you need a minion and this is too much setup. In reality it’s not that hard cause even as control priest you have minions from time to time.
Even if the enemy has only 3 minions and you have one, 1 mana “Deal 1 damage to all minions and give one 3 health” is a good thing. Until now, “Deal 1 AoE damage” was 2 mana worth.
No you don’t put it in a deck unless you are specifically trying to combo it with Moonfang or the Reliquary reward.
But this is a card you definitely want to hit with a discovery or wandmaker. It’s far beyond decent, just wait until you see it in action.
I can guarantee you that you will see people complaining about this card. We can rehash this convo several weeks after release to see what I’m talking about.
Think for just a second what a wandmaker into this looks like at 3 mana against an aggro druid board on turn 3.
I’m looking forward to using it with Hysteria to clear boards that Hysteria alone would whiff on. In Soviet Russia, health redistributes you!
Whoa, Whoa…
If this is the first card reveal for Priest then the rest of the cards are going to be over powered as well.
say good bye to aggro
Wait for this next revealed card: Luster (cost 3) - draw all your 1 cost spells
Whoa
Yah, that’s one usage. This spell is extremely versatile. There’s going to be some pretty massive complaints from aggro players.
Sucking 1 health from every minion on board and giving it to your taunt minion is an aggro killer. If you’re an aggro taunt druid, you don’t want to be dropping 1 health minions anymore for fear of this spell. You need your minions at 2 now. Any deck that just spews out minions is in trouble.
To be fair, this entire expansion seems to be death for 1 health minions, not just Devour. That Warlock abomination is going to love seeing a board of 2/1 squirrels.
And we’re not even counting the neutral defile minion!
I have no doubt that people will complain about it. They complain about everything that priest does unless it’s utterly terrible, and some people complain even then.
I also have no doubt that the card has cases where it shines (though I don’t think the aggro druid example you gave is all that back breaking for the druid. Even if they have peasants out).
My issues are that it’s too situational to be included in most decks, and that it covers an area that priest already has no problem covering. Priest already has the ability to buff the health of its minions. Priest already has a wide selection of tools to deal with aggressive decks that cast many small minions. Those decks already find priest to be a nightmare. They also struggle against control warrior and fel dh, so there’s plenty for them to complain about.
This is certainly a nice addition to priest’s arsenal, but if it doesn’t end up meriting a spot then I have a hard time calling it anything but decent.
What I see is a combo with explosive sheep, to clear the board early.
It doesn’t work with spell damage.
