This is my first season to play this game, so I have lots to learn. I don’t understand how I should be playing differently against other decks and I am sure that will just take a year or so to become more familiar with all of the different cards and playstyles. I played demon hunter to get through the apprentice ranks and mostly Secret Paladin to get to D5. Now the last couple of days since hitting D5 my win rate has dropped from over 60 to 50 or below and I seem to be going in circles. I am obviously facing better decks and better players at this point. I have tried switching to Face Hunter and Rush Warrior, but to be honest I don’t know those decks as well as I do Paladin. The chances of me making legend are slim at best, but I would love to know your suggestions for how to get better when you get stuck. I record some of my losses but I don’t have any friends yet who can watch them ! Should I start trying to change cards in my deck with my limited knowledge ? [I am using net decks at the moment] Should I quit Secret Paladin because everyone knows how to counter it now? Thanks for your suggestions in advance !
Analyse your replays or certain turns in your head where you could have played differently.
When playing, put in focus how your deck wins against what “X class is playing”. Are you looking to put out a strong start? Or stall with your secrets for a powerful board swing?
Oh My Yogg! Can be very important vs Priest and Mage, compared to Hunter, for example.
Watch streams or videos of the deck. Or watch Grandmasters (all the matches are on YouTube). You are watching with the focus of trying to understand why they made that play or not, compared to what you would have done. Was it a mistake? If not, was this a key decision that affected the outcome of the game?
Find written guides, for mulligan or try to figure out something from an older but similar deck. What type of cards are recommended keeping vs certain matchups.
Lastly, and possibly quite importantly, know what your opponent is capable of. What are the usual cards they can play? At each mana cost?
With this, you can pinpoint what mistakes you may be making and what cards in deck you might want to switch out to better certain matchups.
Thanks for the advice. I guess my main problem is that since I have played mostly Secret Paladin, mage, and demon hunter since starting, I really don’t understand many of the other decks that I am playing against well enough to know how I should be playing. I know mages have wipes, priests have heals, warriors and paladins have buffs , that that is about it so far. I guess I just need to keep playing and I will slowly start to remember things. It is information overload at this point. I am capable of deciding when to play and when to hold cards in the couple decks I have been playing, but what other decks are doing is still largely a mystery
I’m having this exact same issue! It’s frustrating as heck.
I made it to D3 and I guess I will have to try harder this month. Of course, with all of the stars awarded for getting to D3, getting to Diamond this month will be a lot easier which will leave me a lot more time to try for legend. I guess the first season someone plays is always the most challenging. RDU has a youtube series on getting to legend on a new F2P account and he does it, so that tells me it has ALOT to do with getting good.
Yeh I got to diamond 10 first day on this season. I’m now stuck at D5 again… I made it to D3 last season also.
It’s supposed to be a hard grinding from D5 to legend. You are taken away of any star bonus and win streak bonus. Even good legend players would need probably 2 hours of playing to achieve legend rank. So stick with the deck you have most success with and grind. I personally don’t have enough play time, so I usually stop at D5 because you only get 1 extra pack as award, and the grinding is really not fun.
Keep in mind that yes skill is important like some others have said, but even if you sit only slightly above that 50% winrate mark. It’s all a matter of games played and with D5 being one star per win (no win streaks). It’s gonna be a grind but you should be able to do it. Higher the winrate the quicker it will go though. So like 60 to 65% winrate will go faster than say 55%. Good luck!
