Goodbye Classic Mode. I guess that’s one way to fix the massive bots that live there.
Due to the short June season, there will be one format for both the June and July Beta seasons of Twist. That format is called “New Age,” a new evergreen format that includes the Core Set, plus all sets from Ashes of Outland forward. That means, during this Beta period, it will consist of:
** Core*
** Ashes of Outland*
** Scholomance Academy*
** Madness at the Darkmoon Faire*
** Forged in the Barrens*
** United in Stormwind*
** Fractured in Alterac Valley*
** Voyage to the Sunken City*
** Murder at Castle Nathria*
** March of the Lich King*
** Path of Arthas*
** Festival of Legends*
As new sets are added to the game, they will be added to the New Age pool, which might be brought back from time to time. For these Beta seasons, there will also be a special rules variant to the New Age format: no neutrals allowed. That will let you re-experience the New Age, but through new eyes! When we bring New Age back in the future, it might come back with the same rules variant, a different one, or no rules variant at all.
My prediction:
They want new “metas” to be found in this mode, but they fail to take into account that new cards are more powerful than old cards, and putting a “no neutrals” requirement only hurts decks that actually used neutrals. Of course, that’s the rule for THIS season only, so that will change later which is a good sign. But for starters, we’re just going to see the same stuff we see now / saw before.
What we will see is just same iterations of broken decks of the past with few changes. Pure Paladin is likely to dominate (duh?) as are decks that were good that rarely used neutrals anyway. And MANY decks over the few years only used a few neutrals…those are easily replaced. So you just get the same rehashed decks. For example, Hound Hunter right now only runs 3 neutrals…easily replaced and you end up with…Hound Hunter.
All in all, the card pool favors meta decks of today and yesteryear…so expect the same metas you thought you got away from recently.
