New Expansion: Elwynn Forest? Hogger, Marshal Dughan

I can only Imagine of Elwynn Forest

Hogger, Marshal Dughan, Fedfennel

What else are iconic Characster from this Area?

I don’t want to see Elwynn, I’d rather they do Stranglethorn Vale or Duskwood.

Hogger alone would be legendary enough for a whole expansion. :stuck_out_tongue:

But Elwynn Forest is to Stormwind what Durotar is to Orgrimmar - both original level 5-10 zones. The Barrens counterpart would be Westfall, though you won’t find many Stormwind troops there - these blue guys in the teaser.

I’m gonna wait 'till Thursday.

I don’t see how Westfall is the equivalent of the Barrens: the Barrens is a gathering place for multiple Horde races while Westfall is a place generally only visited by humans.

Of course, the problem is that the Alliance doesn’t really have a Barrens-equivalent in the first place, AFAIK (I don’t really know how much things changed after WotLK). Going by my WotLK knowledge, I guess Wetlands somewhat gets closest with all the humans in town, but that’s a stretch. I do suppose it serves as a nice sort of opposite to Barrens though, going from very dry to very wet.

Hogger is already a Legendary in the game (not Standard atm I think?), from the original set. He also got a corrupted version in Old Gods.

I doubt the next expansion is going to be based on a low-level Alliance zone.

In the overall story of the year, the Mercenaries are supposed to be leveling up. For the second expansion, they’re likely to be somewhere around level 30-40, with the final expansion probably seeing them hit level 60.

So, I’d expect the theme to focus on a zone or something that would be appropriate for levels in the 30s or 40s. Maybe Southshore or Arathi or something like that? Or maybe bring in the class quests from WoW?

If they go with another dungeon as the theme for the mini-set again, Scarlet Monastery would probably be the leading candidate. I don’t think that there’s another more iconic mid-level instance from the Classic era.

It’s not the Stormwind troops to look for, it’s the tropes. Alliance had zones of similar level to the Barrens, but the culture of the place most certainly wasn’t replicated by Westfall.

It’s definitely Alliance, and while Stormwind is a fair bet, the rose petals on the teaser point to pre-Scourge Lordaeron, from the Warcraft 3 cinematic ending the Human campaign.

And all of this is setting up Horde vs Alliance in Alterac Valley for the third set.

they add gnolls to the game, and then make a new tribe called beastmen. it can have quilboars and gnolls, maybe centaurs as well.

that sounds pretty plausible, albeit i think they´d stick with keeping the dungeon in the same zone? so an alliance zone with a dungeon for ~lvl 40…Badlands/Uldaman?
Or Ashenvale/whatever the caverns were called, albeit that is kinda much lower.
Edit: ashenvale is maybe not even a bad guess as it´s right next to the barrens. so the mercenaries could move on naturally.

I was hoping for a Redridge Mountains expansion.

Goldshire inn…

The Horror… the Horror…

Nah.
While the Alliance races don’t converge in Westfall by map design, Westfall was the to-go zone before they added the Dungeonfinder - and later matched the enemy level to yours regardless of zone. You’d find Humans, Dwarfs, Gnomes and NE in Westfall. The (first big) quest-chain about Defias Brotherhood starts there, sends you to surrounding zones and back, culminating in the Deathmines dungeon, with a very good blue (rare) piece of armor / weapon that fit your char thru lvl 18-ca. 30.
Yes, there are other zones of similar level, but not with a sub-lvl 20 dungeon. Dwarfs don’t even have a lowlevel dungeon in their zones (Gnomeregan was lvl 25+). Blackfathom (Nightelf zone) was 20+, the Draenai were rather remote and without a dungeon - same as the Bloodelf zones for Horde.
Westfall’s easy accessbility from Stormwind may have been a reason, too - a hub for bank, auction house, class and profession teachers nearby.

Aegaeon brings in good points, I’ll wait for Thursday.

Tea and scones for all of you.

I’ve been thinking about this and I wonder if the next expansion might be Dustwallow Marsh. Reasons why, it’s adjacent to the barrens, slightly higher level, it has a dangerous aesthetic (elwynn and west fall are “peaceful” looking zones with farmers and stuff), and there is big alliance presence with the Kul Tiran navy.

That’s not a bad idea, Theramore is certainly a vibrant and very Alliance place.

We could also see the triumphant return of Nat Pagle and Onyxia

If we are going to the Alliance equivalent of the Barrens then it should be Westfall.

Read title before replying, if OP is questioning if it is EF in the first place I can give my opinion on which other zone it could be.

maybe it’ll be Warcraft 1, 2 or 3 related, rather than WoW?
