New DH cards (Updated for Reveal #2)

  • Honestly this doesn’t seem that great. You get a 5-mana 6/5 version of a Demon, then a 1-mana 1/1 of a Demon. The only good result seems to be Magtheridon, Unreleased (see below) since the stats on that won’t matter. Getting Tough Crowd from the 1/1 might be useful sometimes.

  • Fantastic card for Reno DH. A functional weapon that also tutors with mana cheat. Curate your deck with only a couple Demons and this will always be good. Landing Magtheridon on 6 mana will be great.

  • Seems fair. A good hit for Illidari Studies in a slow DH deck. Assuming that it can be generated by Illidari Studies…else, probably not going to see much play. These sort of “generate 2 random X” cards haven’t gotten a lot of mileage over the last year, even back in FoL when Warlock and Mage had them in a 4-set meta.

  • I’m of two minds about this card. First, it puts Crimson Expanse on the map. Magtheridon will wake up on your turn before your opponent can interact with it, so if you ping it with Burning Heart or Touch of Chaos you can just get another Dormant copy, and then another one 2 turns later with the same Crimson Expanse. That’s really cool.

  • But it’s extremely slow and vulnerable to everybody’s favorite control card, Reno. Plus all of that is happening around turns 8-12 unless you land the mana discount with the new weapon. You want to cheat this out but Felscale Evoker is leaving Standard. Need to see if we get more support in the second reveal.

  • I really like this card. It just works. Furthermore it’s a good hit off of Argus if you choose to Discover a Deathrattle. Fair and balanced! Great card.

  • Versatility is the name of the game. You can remove an enemy minion with Taunt if you need to go face or clinch a win, or you can make Magtheridon Dormant again. That seems like the win condition Reno DH is missing: make tons of Dormant Magtheridons. Pretty cool!

  • A Rastakhan’s Rumble callback, I’m not sure I’m feeling this one. It means you can skip your hero power while this is alive to save a mana, but it’s only Stealthed for 1 turn and is easy to destroy after. Seems minimal, not a lot of value like previous Spirits were (even then many didn’t see play).

  • This card is insanely good. Losing Relic of Dimensions and Fossil Fanatic means that drawing might actually be hard - and Blindeye Sharpshooter isn’t going to be power-drawing for DH anytime soon anymore. Bonus points if you use Going Down Swinging to supercharge this. An auto-include in basically any DH deck, imo.

  • One of the best control tools DH has ever had. Which it needs because Topple the Idol and Unleash Fel are rotating. A fantastic hit off Illidari Studies for a change. This is like Bellowing Flames but you don’t have to Forge it and it’s not random pings.

  • I’m guessing this is pre-nerf DH cards from original release. Oh, man. Need to see the pool of cards available but if you were there, you know almost every DH card was overtuned. Auto-include in Reno DH, potentially a win condition depending on what you get. Snake Eyes spotted dead in a ditch.

DH Demons in Standard after rotation:

Window Shopper
Magtheridon, Unreleased

Observer of Mysteries

Illidari Inquisitor
Abyssal Bassist
Mythical Terror
One-Amalgam Band
Eredar Deceptor
Gan’arg Glaivesmith?
Tough Crowd
Eye of Shadow
Battlefiend?

Lame.

Was hoping for more miracle/outcast style support. But I guess the community can’t handle that kind of deck being viable so we get ‘I AFK then summon large things’ instead.

Lowest Common Denominator HS makes me sad.

Window shopper seems fine. Illidari Inquisitor and mag are good hits from the first half. There are a few utility hits for the second.

I wonder which takes precedence when the location spawns an extra Magtheridon. Is he dormant for 1 or 2 turns?

Mag is a little slow, but if you are dropping him on turn 6 from window shopper or the weapon draw that starts to be brutal. He is a decent replacement for xhilag. The discover 2 demons spell seems fine, but likely more of a studies hit than a main deck card like you mentioned.

But those are like…the ONLY good hits from the first half. I’d argue that Tough Crowd and Magtheridon are the only good hits from the second half, and Tough Crowd is situational. Something that works 20% of the time probably isn’t worth running in your deck, it’s basically the same as Snake Eyes.

For the first half, I’m happy with Magtheridon or Inquisitor
Ok with
Observer of mysteries
Abyssal bassist
Mythical terror
Battlefiend

For the second half, happy with Magtheridon, observer of mysteries, or tough crowd

Ok with eye of shadow
Eredar deceptor
Illidari inquisitor

Honestly it’s not a bad spread at the moment

Hate the Magtheridon design. Is a strategy that involves making a bunch of dormant minions sound like fun gameplay?

These seem like better discover options for warlock than interesting DH cards. Yet another tribal deck as well.

Also kill DH by turn 6 or watch as all your minions die every turn with very limited (reno) counterplay… Exciting gameplay.

You can also make your Magtheridon Dormant again with Sheriff Barrelbrim!

Speaking of, if it’s a demon, does Warlock have a way of getting it, then making two more dormant copies with Cursed Camapign?

Demonic dynamics into cursed campaign and then use chaotic consumption.

ALso I’m pretty sure cursed campaign stacks… so you could cast it twice and then destroy it to get 4 dormant copies

Why do that when you can make it dormant for 1 mana

Yeah, someone really needs to get around to posting the new cards.

5 more were already posted in the library. But unfortunately, one Demon Hunter legendary is missing. Where is it?

Not a huge fan of magtheridon from a conceptual standpoint. It remains to be seen if its too slow… and it probably will be but a card that will pulse 3 damage aoes to only enemies for what could amount to the entire game on turn 6 (2x red card + jailer guy played on 6 with the weapon discount) and can only be countered by reno seems to be a bit much to me in a game that already struggles to have any sort of minion combat after turn 5 already.

Actually frequency oscillator isn’t rotating… so you could conceivably get it down on 5… finish up the weapon on turn 4 and play frequency.

It’s been posted on Reddit. Fun but sucks. Getting Warrior from a year ago vibes with DH currently. Hopefully it doesn’t get over buffed in the same way.

A lot of value generation and some good highlander tools but not much on the win condition department. Dormant demons and chip damage? Not seeing it, specially with Reno around.

I posted this back when the slab art for the lich king signatures happened, but Holy Light they did go the full opposite direction in going overboard in the color department. Someone needs to make a filter the visual style mod, or the next couple years are going to be painful.

More balance and appropriately costed cards. I’m liking this and especially the effect with dormant. About time being dormant gave some other effect.
