New BG update coming...Tier 7!? Anomalies!?

Anomalies should have been a feature from the start.

Auto battlers are boring without that type of feature and unfair when that type of stuff isn’t symmetric(quests).

Yeah, but that means high rolls are coming for sure. Starting with 10 gold? That HIGHLY benefits some heroes.

I expect rivers of tears from [insert anomaly] on these forums.

Love the update btw, sounds hype.

Yeah, I was thinking they’d be little quirks like “Dragons have 2 extra health” but the three they show are all pretty game changing (e.g. starting at 10 gold).

I guess if they’re replacing the quests that’s fine tho.

Thorin is probably busted.

Sounds fun! Looks promising!

And makes some heroes unpickable like A.F. Kay. Everyone else gets 20 gold to use while you basically just watch yourself lose in real time LOL.

If the Denathrius one is any indication, I may finally get my “Everybody Nguyens!” Ive posted about for over a year! Everyone having to pick from 2 powers every single turn should yield some unpredictable outcomes a time or two lol.

What’s the Tier cost for Millhouse turn 1? Six, right?

With the “Start with 10g” Anamolie, Millhouse can click the Tavern Up button AND buy two minions on turn 1.

Even without knowing all the anamolies, I feel paying attention to Hero armor is going to be important.

I don’t get why they need 50 of them. You can play for a whole month and not see some or not see one again, and that makes it pretty annoying. It also ups the casino factor a ton.

They are also making a slight reduction in the total number of minions, which is way overdue.

but she still wins the best name in BG heroes, it’s clean and clever.

Because the more they have, the harder it is for a meta to form. Thus, being smart and figuring out what works best with the anomaly without someone else telling you is important to your success. It’s pretty brilliant imo. Luck is always an issue in BGs, but knowledge can take you far.

There is always a meta, it’s just disadvantaging people who don’t have the time or inclination to treat the mode like a job.

I don’t even want a gimmick. Just play the game.

I’m not a fan of the direction they are taking this mode.

My guess is they had an original, smaller amount of overpowered anoms, and they added more to dilute the pool

Anomolies should be fun, but I seriously hope the play-tested all of them as much as possible (I don’t believe they did)

Hope in one hand…

Those people are always advantaged. I think the game is most fun and satisfying when you can forget about looking what the tryhard meta is and you’re left to your own devices. With 50+ different anomalies (and new ones being added regularly), and a new pool of minions, it’s going to take a very very long time to really see a settled meta. Eventually we will know which combination of hero-tribe-anomaly is busted, but it’ll take a while and even then every game will play out so differently that you will probably still have to improvise more than ever.

Obviously the mode will be a bit of a joke from a competitive and rng standpoint, but it’ll probably be fun. I think it’s time to embrace the goofy, light, uncompetitive fun; since it seems obvious that’s the direction where the current dev team wants to take for this game (and battlegrounds particularly).

THis is another way of saying you are bad at the mode and don’t care.

I have no issues with that. Enjoy what you enjoy.

The contrast is that there are other people who have very competitive MMR each month in minimal games who enjoy competition and the puzzleof the game. This change ruins that.

It already is with the last update, and these anomalies double down on stupid.

Erm, not really? Haha I was talking about Hearthstone in general. Experimenting, making decisions on your own and winning or losing purely because you played well is where the game is most satisfying. That’s all I said. I dunno what my skill at the game or at a particular mode have to do with this point. Seems like a rather gratuitous comment.

You are correct tho, I don’t really care about my battlegrounds mmr and I am probably not that good either. I only play it when I’m bored of standard, which is where I am more competitive. My point stands tho, I think the update will be fun but taking this mode seriously from a competitive standpoint will be harder than ever :man_shrugging:

To a point, I agree with this, but when you talk about like 90 different hero powers, all the quests, and now 50 different anomolies, it’s just too many moving parts. It’s dumb.

You aren’t playing to win is what you said in as many words, and I am fine with that, but this change impacts people who are not you.

Which is an oxymoron in a mode so dominated by rng.

Yes, but it will take much longer for it to become apparent. Because of Anomalies, 50 of them, it will take 50x longer for it to become apparent what is good in each scenario.

I don’t know about you, but I have HSReplay’s Tier7 subscription and the stats are not set in stone whatsoever. It’s more like an educated guess based on previous data. Now it will be 50x longer for the stats to subside.

BG meta is completely different than Standard and takes so much longer to become official. Hero X might be good with tribes A, B, C, D, and E in play, but sucks with A, B , C, F, and G in play. Every single game, any combination of 5 out of 10 tribes drastically changes how good a Hero is. That is why there is a different meta for every combination.

Now, you add in 50 anomalies in conjunction with that and you just make the meta even harder to stabilize. Now, that same scenario with tribes A, B, C, D, and E in play is completely different with 50 different anomalies. Now you have a meta with tribes A, B, C, D, and E in play and anomaly 1 and tribes A, B, C, D, and E in play with anomaly 2 are completely different metas.

It’s really good how they are mixing it up. The combinations of different metas is likely in the millions if not more.

Will there be more high rolls? Yes. But skill to recognize the high rolls now plays a big part.

Even the top players won’t recognize every single optimized combination of tribes + anomalies. I can appreciate that.
