Evenlock gets him on turn 3 every game, which is then duped with taunt next turn, and then who knows what because you should have conceded by now.
all this at the expense of essentially 4 damage to hero?
I was surprised they buffed him with the elemental tag, the card doesn’t even need it in this case…
any other class that uses him can also fill their hand with cards to drop him cheap, but not on turn 3…
I’m not sure how to feel about this card. It does feel like it could use a cost increase to maybe 13 to give an additional turn; however, on the flip side I’ve actually been dealing with Evenlock in Wild really consistently since making sure it is a deck I target a gameplan around when choosing decks and cards to play
./shrug
Turn 3 only going second, so no. I’m not voting for anything to already punish going second.
There’s well enough stuff that can deal with Giant on turns 3 and 4. Deadly Shot and Hex to name a few. Even Voodoo Doll, for neutral removal (albeit on turn 5 usually).
Dropping a turn 3/4 giant requires warlock to take 4-6 self damage, on top of doing nothing for two turns in a row. Many aggro decks can even afford to ignore the giant unless it gets taunted up.
Personally, I haven’t thought of Mountain Giant as an issue for months upon months’ end. You see warlock tap-tap, you know it’s coming. If you’re a control deck, you should have the tools to deal with it. If you’re an aggro, you have 3 free turns to abuse your opponent.
Where’s the issue here?
EDIT: Just like Hyena, Mountain Giant has a strict requisition of sacrificing your board presence width. It’s a power play you choose to make, assuming you can catch up on the lost tempo / resources. That’s in the essence of card games; trading one thing for another.
Let’s wait until Genn rotates out, then we will see how powerful this dude is without 1 cost draw.
Assuming we’re talking about Standard; there’s not much of a point to nerf Mountain Giant with Even Warlock in mind since the deck archetype stops existing after the rotation. I don’t know about Wild but judging from the lack of complains about it on the forums it looks like Even Warlock is not much stronger there. At least not as much as something like Big Priest running Barnes.
Then what’s the point of bringing that up? The only noticeable deck where that tag even matters is in a Mage deck that runs Frost Lich Jaina.
I don’t really play standard.
you guys have decent points but I must say this is more annoying than big priest Barnes turn 3-4,
both are usually concede
I’ve beaten a several even locks and what helped me was playing Evenlock. If I see them continuously tapping I know 1 of 2 things is going to happen:
Mountain Giant or Board clear.
So what do you do? Make sure you have enough refill in hand and don’t over extend. Fish for a removal if you can - if not, you might have to take 8 to the face before you can trade your entire board into the giant to clear it. Do that, they play their turn, which is probably a taunt, and you repeat the process.
Basically, just be ready to deal with Mountain Giant and play around board clears. Try to rush them down before T10 so they can’t play DK Guldan. I’ve never had a problem facing them, and I’ve been beaten lots of times playing Evenlock.
Even lock doesnt exist in exactly one week. Whats with all these braindead posts about nerfing cards one week before ROTATION. Do you honestly think thats going to happen?
P.S. Odd warrior destroys early mountain giants, its better to bait out big removal by just playing on curve usually.
Rotation isn’t going to help OP though:
There are lots of ways to deal with a turn 3 giant. You explain to me how to deal with a turn 3 Barnes into Ragnaros into res.
You drop Thekal and 2 Molten Giants before your opponent does that, duh.
it’s your fault if you leave it alive
exactly
Touché…
Only Giant decks I really dislike…
Plan #1) Giants
Plan #2) Murlocs (Anyfin)
o.O
Not an unfair decks as the bridging between those two strategies isn’t amazing but you’re playing half that game wondering how you deal with a powerspike, lol
It’s not complained about, but it’s definitely very powerful. I would argue that it might even be better than Big priest, since it doesn’t low roll. On meta snapshot Big priest is tier 2 while even warlock is tier one
The real question I think that should be put out. Considering there’s no word of ever changing the hero powers. And Warlocks Hero power is insanely powerful. Head and shoulders the best hero power in the game.
The question should be how long do we really want to see a turn 3-4 mountain giant??
At this stage it’s been a staple of Warlock since the start of the game and with the addition of Genn you can speed this process up.
I don’t mind it too much now because you can plan for it fairly easily but I’m definitely getting over it
‘Wish this combo was still frequent…
It seems to only occurs against certain archetype matchups…
RNG ftw?
