Need help from permanent arena players!

I’m an old player who quit 6 years ago and returned in November. Before I quit I used to be a permanent arena player, so obviously I understood the basics of arena.

Since I came back, however, I keep averaging 2-3 wins only. It’s a disaster. I’ve tried drafting both with and without Hearthstone Arena helper, and the result is the same.

I feel like I’m missing something. Did some of the basics change? What changed?

Here’s some additional info to help you realize where I might be making mistakes, although it only confused me more.

When I returned, for a full month there was Triclass arena so being bad there wasn’t a surprise for me. Triclass arena is pretty different and much more swingy than a normal arena.

But then the normal arena returned and for a while I was perma player again. I’ve averaged 9 wins for like a week or two and then the new expansion hit and I’m back to square one and 2.5 average wins.

I’m clueless. I don’t have the time to watch streamers like I used to. However, when I did find some time to watch Daily dose of coffee, I found that I would be making mostly the same moves like he did. Is it possible then, that it’s my drafting which needs changing? If so, in what ways? As I said, I’ve already tried drafting with and without Heartharena and the resulting average doesn’t change. Since the expansion hit, I’ve managed to burn through 3k gold averaging 2.5 wins per run. It’s causing physical pains to me. At the same time, my standard grind is doing just fine. I still got it.

I appreciate any inputs from permanent arena players!

Also, I would appreciate this thread gets moved to proper subforum, if this isn’t the one where I might expect some replies.

Thanks in advance!

Has Daily dose of coffee grown? good for him…I remember us visiting each others streams while we had like 4 viewers at a time each, I never lifted off unfortunately.

I’m a pretty good arena player myself if I am allowed to say so. I’d say draft is most important but also easier now, as you can ‘steer’ your strategy based on your first pick.

That being said, over the years there also have been a lot more unfair swing cards that knock you out of the field.

I’d offer my help but i’m unsure what you’re exactly looking for?

He’s live just now, with 500 viewers, not bad for Arena player. I honestly just wanted to find one perma arena player to learn from, and found him to be an excellent teacher. But as I said, I don’t have much time as I used to have and I value play-time more than learn-to-play-better-later-time at the moment

I wish I knew. All I knew is that somehow from a permanent arena player I came to averaging 2-3 wins per run.

Maybe I just don’t know what to expect from opponents because the cards are new to me and I have only played for 3 months now (which came with a new expansion as well). If that’s the case, only time and playing will help me.

But for a chance that I’m missing something, I’d like you to go name a few important tips just from the top of your head, anything that comes up to you as important in nowaday arena. That’s how I would approach a thread like this 6 years ago xD

Maybe then I’ll know if my base knowledge is still point on, or I’m missing something.

Actually, there is one thing I might be aware of - I think I use up my fuel too fast in most of the arena runs. Sometimes I control the board the whole game and chip away 1-2 dmg per turn only to get overrun with one swingy card, but that’s not what happens most of the time. Most of the time I just run out of gas before the opponent does.

But even if that’s the case, I have no idea what to change. If I don’t play strong early, I lose even faster.

One thing I also noticed is when I use heartharena companion, 99% of the deck types are control now. Any class, any draft, control deck. Obviously, that’s very different than it was 6 years ago when you get all possible varities from aggro, through tempo, midrange most often, control and attrition. I’m literally lost.
