That’s totally uncool. I’m trying to finish task 18 for Xyrella. I only have her, Cariel, and The Lich King in my party while going through Lord Banehollow. Who does first stranger I see give me tasks for? Cariel, The Lich King, and Kutrus Ashfallen?!?!?!?!
If your party isn’t full of Mercs who need tasks, there is a chance it will give you a task for one not in your party. This also happens if you get a Stranger and people in your party already are working on tasks.

Task 30? Each merc only has 18 tasks.

Yup… perhaps Ginger already completed the final task of Xyrella (18)… which is why she is getting tasks from other mercs.
Or because they already had an active Xyrella task. There is no other explanation.

Sorry, I meant 18. I was looking for my 30th level mercs and had a brain fart. Edited. 
I have a question. If a member of your party already has a task, are you still capable of acquiring tasks for the others. I swear I was told my campfire was full and instead of a task, and my Xyrella was given coins. Maybe she specifically already had a task? I wish I paid more attention because now I’m confused.

You will always get tasks from the Stranger unless the 2-4 slots for those tasks at your campfire are already full. The number of slots you have available depends on how far you’ve upgraded the campfire.
The other two slots you can see at the campfire are not open for regular character tasks: one is for the story tasks from Valeera and others; the other is for Chromie’s daily.
The 2-4 slots for character tasks at your campfire were already full. When your campfire is full, strangers just give you consolation coins.
If Xyrella already had a task, she wouldn’t have been offered at all by the Mysterious Stranger. Instead you would have been offered some other merc from your party, or a randomly chosen one if there weren’t enough options in your party.

Thank you for your very informative response. Can you please tell me how to upgrade my campfire? I’m clearly still learning and have a lot to learn. 
Just go into the thing that lets you build and upgrade your buildings in the village.
There are preconditions for the upgrades—I don’t remember what they are for the Campfire—but those are pretty easy to fulfill. Then, you just have to pay a little gold to add each extra slot.

Let’s hope I have enough gold! I’m ashamed to admit, I spent most of it on Mercenaries packs. But I cannot complain about luck; I’ve gotten several legendaries from them.
hmm how am i supposed to understand someone complaining about them making sure we always get a task for a mercenary ???
If those are the only 3 mercs in your party, and you got another merc for tasks, then you either already have a Xyrella task or already completed them all.
Not gunna lie, if there was 30 task to do, there better be some amazing reward like a secret 4th item fully upgrade by that time, normally you be near or be done with character by the 18 class with a few token here and there needed.
Yeah, 18 tasks is more than enough to upgrade the 1 or 2 main abilities of the merc, plus their best equipment. Bonus points (or coins, rather) if the equipment starts maxed out.
most my main character are basically max and I don’t even have task 7 on most of them, then again I didn’t spam farm the same mission like some people to farm the MS, I always push my group on hardcore mode, so I spread my ‘farming’ outside of 1 zone that most ppl do…
Yeah, I only got 3 maxed mercs with the +1/+5, but I also have a few more with all important abilities and their best treasure at max level, so they’re effectively maxed, just no +1/+5.
