Mysteries and Card backs

Is anyone even enjoying these “solve the mysteries” achievements that award a card back? They seem like a colossal waste of everyone’s time to me (including a huge waste of developers’ resources by Blizzard). Every single one seems to be as convoluted as possible such that no one even attempts to solve them other than one person who datamines the whole thing and posts the solutions on some forum. Then the diehard completionists spend a couple hours mindlessly copying that solution. But is that even fun for anyone? It just seems incredibly dumb to me reflective of a company that has no care/ability to understand its customers.

They are meant for a certain types of players.

Trump seems to enjoy them (in the past at least, he was trying to solve them on his own).
For us normal people, they are probably too much, but it’s not a bad thing that they exist. We can always ignore them if we don’t want to do them (I never even tried to complete one step, I don’t care of cardbacks)

I read they were solved and was like oh cool I can go get a neat looking card back.

Then i realized the “solution” still requires a zillion proper steps that anyone who doesn’t have hours upon hours to figure out wouldn’t dare waste their sanity trying to solve

The solutions weren’t datamined, people spend time solving these, and many enjoyed it. If you don’t enjoy them, don’t do them. It’s just a cardback. I always enjoy attempting to solve the puzzles after they are located, even if I never do.

Yeah, this is just ridiculous. The Kurtrus and Xyrella puzzles are fine, but the Cariel puzzle is just a load of BS I’m absolutely not going to do, and this is coming from someone who did the other Mysteries. Who the hell makes a puzzle that literally takes HOURS to complete!?

The puzzles are community events that bring together likeminded people to work on something in unity for a day or two. They don’t grant any reward other than a cosmetic you barely ever get to see yourself, so it’s not like you’ll miss out if you don’t participate.

People just wait for the solution anyway. I hope they don’t continue. I know they’re optional but if you collect card backs, you ‘compelled’ to do it anyway.

I’m now weighing up the card back vs time spent. I guess I can do it while watching something on the TV or some other thing… but the tedium, stuff me sideways and call me a murloc.

Some good comments, thanks for inputs.

The comments that go something like “if you don’t enjoy them, don’t play them” are pointless. Everyone knows these are optional, don’t be a corporate stooge.

What is fascinating is that a public, for-profit corporate is devoting resources (developer time, server costs) to the production of these puzzles that essentially no one likes, makes zero revenue, and as a whole probably just harms their relationships with their customers (i.e. completionists who aren’t willing to spend hours doing these tedious tasks, but then can’t get all card backs so decide to just abandon the game completely). It really is mindboggling that this puzzles are even produced at all.

Just shows you where their priorities are. They try to make it seem like dev time is maxed out just trying to barely eek out the current content and QA is too much to ask for. Yet someone is there making these things creating these custom janky UIs and puzzle code.

Seems like there is definitely a posh group inside living the high life while the company pushes out as many functions as they can to contracted companies providing cheap labour.

They are probably not for everyone.

Yeah, spot on, it definitely seems like something fishy like that.

I absolutely hate them. I’m just too old and f’d up beyond my years to execute :frowning:

I wish you could buy the card backs for gold.
