My thought on new expansion: quite disappointed

We already get some revealed cards for next expansion, and I am kind of disappointed…

Now we are in scolomance/darkmoon/barrens era and I, personally, thought that the game (gameplay) is not fun.

Every turn, we just play the most obvious best cards. We create a board that opponent cannot answer. Win. That’s it. This game is like yugioh now… Whoever create the board first and opp cannot answer will win the game. Whoever roll the big dice first will win.

Already more that 3 years, I think, the game is like this. No change… HS just prints new more cards with power creep… But, in the end, there is no change in the gameplay. (Plus, they spice it with RNG that both players cannot predict the outcome)

I don’t say we must back to the old days, because classics combo is boring… Putting 4/5 vanilla minion is boring.

What I really miss is the cards to “answer” the boards. (Like control deck, yes). But, please no more Soul Mirror, or Psychic Scream, or the Amazing Reno, or Puzzle Box, or Yogg Saron (Because that cards are T^&Y*Y&l…)

I wish there are more cards (Control Cards) that allow us to react based on the board state. Yes, there is cards like that currently, for example: rush minions, expendable performer, perpetual flame, the lurker below, broomsticks. I mean the cards that react based on “if opponent have this”… But, many control cards right now are obsolete, because there is more other cards that is better, that is “If I play this”.

So, in other words, I wish they print more “answer” cards… Not the “bully” cards… Currently the “answer” cards available right now in meta are “Rush” cards (aka boring). Other than rush are not existent.

UPDATE:

=====================================
I have just seen little cards on the next expansion. So, I think I was too rusty in drawing conclusion and post to this thread… After I take a look again at the cards, seems like the cards are okayish (for now).

I hate when HS introduce so many RNG cards, so many value cards. x mana that values 5x mana instantly. For example:

  • Jandice barove that summons greybough and earth elemental
  • play mankrik, next turn, draw wife.
  • oh my yogg
  • glowfly swarm
  • sethekk → infinite values.
  • yogg saron
  • weapon… if we cannot destroy it or if we don’t have taunt, we will lose in 2 turns…

After I take a look one more time, I think HS realized that RNG and infinite value should be reduced which is a good thing. Also, they introduce tradable.

So, previously I am disappointed, but now, I am kinda hope the next expansion will be more enjoyable than this current meta.

Control decks are composed of a handful of types of cards:

  • Win conditions
  • Card draw
  • Healing
  • Board clears
  • Spot removal

This set is adding at least 2 large heals in Dungar and Spice Bread Baker that can go into any control deck. It is adding card draw in the form of tradeable cards. This set has win cons for control decks in quest lines that thus far seem to favor long games but with a definitive end point. The kind of cards you’re describing as control cards are actually tech cards and those are more viable than they’ll ever be with tradeable like the weapon removal that you can use as card draw if you’re playing someone without weapons.

We haven’t seen much in terms of board clears and spot removal yet but there’s already enough of those in the meta from other sets. Warrior, warlock, priest, mage, and shaman all already have good spot removal and board clears. You also need to be judicious in how much you include of these types of cards in metas or you end up in very boring game states for a lot of people where it feels like nothing can stick on the board.

What control has lacked lately are win cons so that they can actually end the game once they’ve gained control of the board. They also lack ways to survive long enough to enact those long term plans. There’s ample removal already in the format

Funny that you whine about a lack of “answer” cards recently, and then mention Psychic Scream, Soul Mirror and The Amazing Reno. If I am not mistaken, The Amazing Reno and Psychic Scream were tailor made to avoid sticky Deathrattle/ N’zoth boards, right? And Soul Mirror is an answer to your opponent relying too much on fatties to get the job done.

“I want more answers, but since I don’t play priest, psychic scream and soul mirror are not cool”

Priest is not cool.

“Oh you need healing? Great, pay four mana just to give Hunter a great target for their 7/6 Rhino please!”

Don’t be mistaken.

Soul mirror and cards like psychic scream are needed for control - to come back from behind…

But, that does not mean Blizzard needs to do this every time. “Ah the board are too messy… We fix this by psychic scream… Summon Yogg!”

Soul mirror and psychic scream are example of cards that HS to create to fix the mess they created by themselves.

They create the meta too bursting. Fill all boards with strong minion every turn. And with that, HS create a lazy fix “Psychic scream” as a card to fix them.

I don’t say the fix is wrong. But I think the root cause of the problem is the cards like “Summon Jumbo mumbo with 5 mana, that opp cannot react” should exist. Therefore, card like psychic scream definitely does not need to exist as well.

Aggro decks are allowed to have answers too. That card also very likely negated all the damage done by the rhino and then some. When you have a definitive win con you don’t need to be able to drag the game on indefinitely just long enough to win.

What is this fantasy control card that you feel the game is missing? I’m pretty sure you don’t even know what it is you want at this point if you’re able to look at what’s in the set so far and say there’s no control cards

Aggro decks have nothing but answers right now and that’s the god damn problem. Do you really think it’s a good thing that it’s going to be basically impossible to use Questlines seriously? When it’s such an important part of this expansion?

Not even half the cards have been revealed yet way to soon to say that, also there seems to be a push for Control with the few cards we saw .

They have shown nothing to slow down Hunter and Shaman is getting more and more aggro tools.
It’s not a good look man, especially considering Shaman is already S-Tier with zero weaknesses.

I haven’t seen much from mage, but their quest looks kind of crappy compared to others.
Maybe there are cards I haven’t seen that make it awesome.

Unless Mage gets a “5 mana: Destroy Hunters and Shamans” card is that really going to matter

I think it will be possible to use the questlines realistically. Control deck’s problems right now isn’t the lack of answers it’s the lack of way to close out the game it’s so bad some have resorted to running garbage like Cthun. Aggro decks are beating control decks because control decks are stabilising boards only to do nothing with them then getting worn down by aggro decks.

Take Control Shaman for instance. That class has ample board clears, spot removal, and healing but nothing to close out a game and no card draw. Now it’s getting tradeable cards for drawing and bolner + ysharjj to actually end games. Priest actually has a win condition to survive to get instead of RNG nonsense.

Aggressive shamans are going to be hit pretty hard with the 3 mana 3/4 tradeable ooze likely being in every deck because of how versatile it is. The large heals absolutely hurt hunter. Hunter’s reach is finite and having to use the Rhinos to counteract some of the healing anyone can run is going to hurt those decks.

If hunter and the same shaman decks are still problems after the set releases they will likely nerf those decks 2 weeks after the release but it’s as I suspected you don’t actually have any idea of what you want

You are kind of missing the fact that Priest used to be the only class in the game actually capable of stabilizing against Shaman/Hunter before it was killed. Rush Warrior kind of can still but it’s not exactly consistent.

Every other class gets totally screwed by one or the other, often case both.

I’m not sure what you mean by that. Do you think Shamans and Hunters are going to be really OP?

Warrior could stabilise as could shaman. The problem was they had nothing to do after stabilising so they got worn down.

Also Shaman’s strength has a lot to do with their weapons. Damn near every deck after this sit is gonna be running the tradeable ooze because there’s no reason not to which is going to make life miserable for shamans. That leaves teching for hunters which a lot of decks can readily do

I’m saying I’m not sure what they can give to Mages that gives them a chance against the current state of Hunter and Shaman

Even if thats true (which I doubt, this place always tends to vastly over estimate the power of tech cards), that really only hurts Doomhammer Shaman which is falling off anyways. When I say “Aggro Shaman” I suppose I should clarify I mean the aggro version of Elemental.

Also you keep saying control Shaman will rise, but “using Shaman to beat Shaman” isn’t exactly the progress we need right now lmao

Tech cards with no risk that can also be 1 mana draw a card effects that answer a fairly common threat will likely see a lot of play and punish classes that use weapon a lot. Aggro Elemental shaman doesn’t have many great matchups just no minion mage, control warlock (who doesn’t have a good matchup against that awful deck) and control warrior.

Control warrior is hard to say how it’ll be right now since we don’t know alot of the warrior cards but if it gets a win condition that solves its biggest problem of relying on either silas combo or cthun to end a game. Priest will now have a definitive win con so it can function as a control deck. Control shaman is very different than the aggro and midrange elemental decks we’ve been seeing thus far.

If face hunter continues to be a dominant deck then I suspect it will get nerfed to make room for new cards and decks including possibly a midrange hunter.

We also haven’t seen a large number of cards and won’t until monday what’s gonna be in the set
