Murloc Shaman 100% Win Rate

…against me over the last 12 games

Over the last 5 days I have faced 12 Murloc Shaman and lost to every single one…

ON TURN 5

They easily get 4,5, 6 minions wide with, on average, 5 attack and 5 health by turn 5.

I have been playing Quest Priest and some mech mage.

Anyone else getting steamrolled by this deck?

May I ask what deck you’re using? Murloc Shaman has some bad matchups (not to say the deck is bad whatsoever). I’ll upload an image of them once I get home.

Murloc Shaman walks all over most meta decks but we see little to no complains about it so its fine.
We get what we deserve .

Murloc Shaman is one dimensional. You remove their murlocs, challenge them on board, or they just don’t draw their uber combo curveout and the deck folds.

(psst, I told you in the OP)

Forgive me, I actually read the OP, too. Brain fart. Nevertheless, it’s looking like Quest Priest is about 50-50 against Murloc Shaman. Big Priest, aBoar Priest, and Highlander Priest all perform slightly better than regular Quest Priest. I’ll still upload that image soon just to give others an idea as to the deck’s weaknesses.

Consider uploading a few replays. Maybe there’s room for improvement?

As promised, below is the list of Murloc Shaman matchups. Unfortunately, the deck is really good and doesn’t have any totally polarizing matchups I could specifically suggest. But, hopefully this gives some an idea of what to play if Murloc Shaman is prevalent in your meta.

These stats are taken from D4 - D1, since the release of the latest patch.

Well, the problem is that Murloc Shaman just snowballs like no other deck.

If you cant remove the 1st two Murlocs by turn 2 or 3, just pack it in.

Classes with turn 1-3 removal should have 0 problem with Murloc IMO

Quest Priest (mine anyway) runs primarily minions and I get behind too easily and I lose FORTY HEALTH by turn 5.

40 health in 5 turns is crazy. Maybe include more removal, if possible?

Have you run into any Murloc Warlocks? I’m wondering if the same issue applies to them too.

I tried it when the mini set was released, but I find it rather inconsistent and not good enough.
Now I am seeing people saying it’s op and I realized why: warrior was nerfed, no wait, nuked out of ladder :joy:

If it wasn’t for the early game clownfish into warleader, the deck would be fine at most

without clowfish they can be controlled more.
Chum bucket is the only thing you need to worry about (so trade any murloc, even a 1/1 in the early game).

I love my Q Priest as is. Murloc Shaman is like my only bad matchup where I feel powerless.

And Celestial Druid

Would you mind sharing your list? This is, of course, not to criticize it. I just love different decks, and there’s a whole bunch of variations on Quest Priest. I think my favorite, so far, is the Highlander version.

I play mostly rogue and some alignment druid, so I haven’t had problems with murloc shamman (maybe ran into 10 of them so far over the last week, won all 10 games.)

I haven’t played either quest priest or mech mage, but with mech mage you should definitely be able to challenge them. Mech mage MU should be a coin-toss, whoever has the better opening hand that snowballs faster/harder should win (especially so if you can prolong the game until the point at which you get the colossal minion with massive AoE ability.) I believe murloc shamman will be favored in the coin toss for snowballing, but as mech mage you are favored if the game gets drawn out, so your plan should be the snowball to draw out the game.

Even though I haven’t played with quest priest, I’m 99% certain you want to prioritize AoE at all costs. It’s doubtful you can kill off their early minions, but you want big AoE nukes hitting turn 3 and 4 to clear the board, I imagine if you fail to do this you lose on the spot.

It’s not a slow MU, you definitely want to burn resources indiscriminately to keep their board low on minions. If they run out of steam by turn 3 or 4 you win the game most of the time.

Either case, one solid AoE in this MU typically wins the whole game.

Wait are you saying out of the 12 games you played they were all against Murloc Shaman’s and you lost all of them? I’d be more concerned about the atrocious RNG of those matchups and maybe your lack of finding a counter but anything with a 100% win rate MUST BE NERFED! Anything near Pirate Warrior (except DH, Druid, Priest, Rogue, Mage, and Paladin) must be nerfed into oblivion!

I’ve faced a little control variant murloc, they eat your valuable minions over and over again. very frustrating with midrange decks

I’m pretty sure OP is saying out of 12 games of playing against murloc shaman they haven’t won a single game because the deck is broken. I don’t see anything regarding them playing 12 games in a row all against Murloc Shaman. It helps to read and not assume you understand his situation.

I’ve been playing a fair amount of Quest Priest myself and don’t have nearly that much trouble dealing with Murlocs.

I noticed that you’re running a Reno build and don’t seem particularly flexible on moving to any of the builds that do better vs Shaman since you feel very good on all other matchups besides Alignment Druid.

This seems to be less of a “Murloc Shaman is OP” issue and more of a “My build is solid, but has a couple of gaping matchup holes in it” which tends to happen if you gear your deck too heavily in one direction.

This.

And I played like 2 more this weekend and lost both.

One thing we can establish is it’s not a very popular deck.

And I think, I hope, I have admitted that. That it just may be a polarizing matchup VS my Q Priest.

And no, I’m not changing my deck for 1 archetype when I just went From Platinum 10 to Diamond 5 and only lost like 4 games total.

I wasn’t counting but I would guess I had a few 9 to 10 game win streaks. (Before you guys get your calculators out and count starts and matches, this is a gut feeling, not real math and it’s including pre-platinum.)

My record is 13 with a Shadow Priest last Xpac.

The only card I would kick out of my deck at this point would be Braan.

He does nothing but give me the 3 card and acts as a soft taunt. I rarely take advantage of his effect.

By all means, leave the matchup wide open as long as it’s uncommon enough to not trip up your winrate by much. That’s actually the correct call to make as long as you can just brush off those matches.

I just wanted to make sure I was understanding the thread correctly and if so, at least add another perspective on whether or not Murloc Shaman is that oppressive. It isn’t uber busted, but can definitely run away with plenty of games when it curves out well.
