Is it true that some top players are first conceding games to lower MMR, then have an easier climb / grind? Ppl have talked about it here on the forum.
Maybe it is a coincidence, but something weird happened 2 days ago. I faced a player called BloodyFace in diamond 2. I hoped it was the pro player I like watching, and looked forward to that game - but found it odd that I’d be facing someone like him, with the new MMR system: I am a legend player, but not anywhere near top level.
He immediately conceded…
Now - it might have been a different player, but it just made me wonder… I have not seen any concedes above diamond.
I dont think conceding 1 game, or 100, lowers one’s mmr significantly.
Your opponent had no idea what rank you were at, for all he/she knew you were at B10 or D1. I believe legend still shows your opponent’s legend rank if you are legend, i wouldnt know, bc meta isn’t deckbuilding so.
For your lower-mmr theory to work we’d have to see each others rank like we used to for the last 6 years before this random patch last month decided to take that feature away from us, as if it was a good thing, instead of a major-problem.
Also, for your lower-mmr theory to work we’d have to know how many losses lowers an MMR, how much each loss lowers it if one is enough, and if there is a floor on a per-season, or per-day, tank.
I face leg players all the time like u on my way up ladder, and i haven’t legen’d in 1,942 days yet i still hit mostly legend opponents so the game must remember an old-days legend and assume we still play meta today, which is 180 the case. MMR thinks everyone still plays meta, or assumes that by nature of ‘equal matchmaking’ based of rank which is based off meta or not.
You sure it wasn’t a polarized matchup? There are a few matchups with around 20 percent chance to win. Also some people get tilted when they are faced with a certain class.
It doesn’t lower it in my opinion. I had a couple of really bad days losing almost every single match after playing for hours. I’m probably tilted tbh. However I’m definitely still being matched against players of the same rank.
Does this work if you immediately concede games though? As I understood the devs’ comments when the new system was introduced, MMR wouldn’t be affected by games where you concede right away (as OP indicates it happened). I wouldn’t be surprised to find out if that’s not the case, but I’m curious as to whether the “tank your MMR to get ez wins” works with auto-conceding, or if you actually have to play the game and force a loss.
Instant (or very fast) concedes are not that rare. If you don’t care about your rank too much there are some matchups or games you really don’t care to play for the small % chance to win. Not worth the time and stress.
