I assume this issue is known to Blizzard by now, but I haven’t seen any statement regarding this issue, so I am adding this thread for more visibility.
Only through a Reddit post it was brought to my attention that I needed to check my duplicate cards or disenchant button / dust counter as cards would have been missing since Knights of the Frozen Throne rotated form wild into standard. I never disenchant cards unless they have been nerfed and offer full dust discount, as such my vault of duplicate cards has been growing with every expansion since classic.
I looked through screenshots and found my duplicate dust counter from May 2022 sitting at 130830 and found it sitting at 112880 a few days ago. Opening 120-150 packs every expansion I tend to get 4000-5000 dust in duplicates; instead of getting ~10k dust I lost ~20k dust. Several people in the Hearthstone Discord as well as the Reddit thread reported having the same issue.
The Blizzard Support team, as usual, just refers me/us to the Bug Forum, and as a frequent visitor who has reported numerous bugs on various different games, I know Blizzard rarely if ever answers here. But this is no small issue, this is not an achievement not working, this is virtual currency that is gained through either massive amounts of time spent or real money spent that is missing from user accounts. This isn’t a bug, this is theft, and I can’t believe Blizzard hasn’t addressed this issue yet. I am just one person missing 30.000 dust, while I am sure most people are missing significantly less, and some might be missing nothing as they always disenchant their duplicates, with millions of players there is potentially BILLIONS of dust missing from the system. That isn’t theft that is a grand heist. 30.000 dust would require me to open 300 packs worth of duplicates or spend 350 Euros/Dollars; Billions of dust would be obviously be millions of Euros/Dollars. That’s no small matter.
I want to encourage everyone to check (if they can, via screenshots or from memory) if they have been affected by this and voice their discontent to Blizzard. Unless a lot of people complain, and usually unless well known streamers make videos about it, nothing is ever done. I know the system is set up in a way that we don’t actually own anything and Blizzard can delete anything we have spent time and money on farming together, but Blizzard still has a reputation to uphold and should fix something of this importance.
I urge everyone to think twice about spending any money on any Blizzard game until an official Blizzard representative has commented on this issue. If a bug benefits us it gets hotfixed within an hour, but issues like these haven’t even been addressed in months. I never thought I would have to count my dust every expansion expecting it to be taken away, but here we are. Completely unacceptable. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk!
That seems incorrect. At no point did my disenchant button jump up by 30k dust. I do check my dust semi-regularly and it would take about 1,5 years to get that much dust in duplicates. When and due to what, should that bug have occurred exactly?
from hearthstone year changes , so from core rotation changes or introduction, cards can show at 4x instead of 2x , duplicating the dust wrongly.
This was never visually fixed becouse even if client dont know what to do , server knows what to do … so the fix was serverside.
When the bug first appeared it was confirmed by players that mass-disenchant was showing a value but manually searching for this cards to try to manual disenchant was impossible , so the dust was from nowhere becouse there was no extra cards avaiable to disenchant in collection.

mass disenchant say 2 legendary , he can found only 1 … screenshoots still work.

one of the replies
Yeah, I had a similar bug. It showed that I had 800 dust worth of extra dust, which was 400 dust more than I actually had (for some reason it thought I had 2 extra legendaries when I only had one).
edit4: another from this forum , is so hard to search old topics here.
Patch 20.0 seems to be The Barrens expansion. I looked back all the way up to Darkmoon Faire (before Barrens) and compared my dust between expansions and don’t find any 30k dust jump or anything particularly unusual. Dust is growing at a steady rate for me between every expansion.
(Oh, just noticed links are not allowed, just leaving imgur handle in case anyone wants to manually verify)
For example: 2 expansions before core rotation: 8KMk3Sk (115615 dust)
After last core rotation: JMAQeHv (126645 dust)
~11k dust gained in 6 months, totally normal.
As for your explanation, wouldn’t everyone be affected by this rather similarly?
Yeah Patch 20.0 is Barrens but the problem was not that expansion , is with that expansion the Core set was implemented

Yeah everyone was affected but not all people keep track , not all report , and people usually report missing things , and not what they get for free.
Like on November FT cards was temporary given for free , there was no posts of people gaining this cards for free and asking why , but when temporary period ended alot o player come here report missing cards.
Here is a report with screen before and after the update https://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/zg1whf/collection_deleting_bug_missing_1500_cards/
and cleary show the missing dust , but what shows is a total different number of cards…
Now is too late to test but the correct number of duplicate legendary was 8 or 6 ??
there are 2 missing now or there was 2 “invisible” before ?
For sure all want than Blizzard checks and reports back to community , but even if they do it no one will trust that.
But not everyone is affected in the same way, some people report missing 800 dust, I report missing around 30.000 dust (And I am not even a whale, I actually just buy around 100 packs per expansion with gold and sometimes play a bit of Arena successfully).
I understand that you are saying (or that Blizzard is saying) that the 30.000 dust I lost were never mine to begin with, however I was only able to verify the loss of 30.000 dust, I was not able to verify any gain of 30.000 dust at any time, and I actually do have a fair amount of screenshots and videos (of pack openings for example) throughout my 9 years of Hearthstone experience. If Blizzard was able to explain how the difference in dust gains/losses amongst people occurred exactly (which rarities counted and by how much and/or only if wild copies existed previously or whatever) and at what exact date this bug must have been implemented, I and many others can go back and verify that. The fact that this bug supposedly exists for almost 2 years and was never addressed, the fact that the support team knows nothing about it, and the fact that no Blizzard representative is willing to comment on this issue despite several forum and/or reddit posts, suggests to me that something fishy is going on.
You are right that even if Blizzard would come forward and explain the issue, most people wouldn’t trust that, but for a good reason, Blizzards track record with these sort of things is terrible and previous lessons learned suggest that you should in fact never trust what Blizzard says, just think about the recent dust debacles where Blizzard told everyone to not dust certain cards otherwise they may go into negative dust. Everyone that exploited got away with thousands of free dust, everyone that listened got nada out of it. Blizzard protects itself before anything else (Which I understand form a company’s perspective) and dust is money, giving away dust is a loss of money and taking away dust is a gain of money, they are virtually identical from a monetary perspective for Blizzard, and I can totally see them deleting dust here (regardless whether intentional or by accident) and keeping it hush.
So unless I see actual evidence with dates and an explanation for the discrepancy between different values among affected players, I see this as theft. Once I am able to verify that I gained an equal amount of dust throughout the time this bug existed that I have lost in November, I will be satisfied.
That becouse Core cards can be obtained for free through leveling up classes, while their golden cards can be obtained by winning in Ranked, Arena, or Duels games.
So to unlock more Core cards you need to spend time on different modes and different classes , this create different core collection between players and that create different dusts values.
