Misdirection hunter secret interaction bug

Currently, if you have a weapon equipped, and one of your own minions attacks you via Misdirection while you have said weapon equipped, your minion will also take damage based on the attack of your equipped weapon. Your weapon charge will not decrease, nor will any attacking effects associated with specific weapons trigger. Based on how weapons and weapon charges work and how the interaction took place, this is not supposed to happen.

Hunter opponent played Misdirection Secret. Me, the paladin, used Glowstone Technician to activate the secret. I had Truesilver Champion (4/2 basic paladin weapon) equipped. Glowstone Technician died because it recognized that I had “hit it” with my weapon even though neither my weapon disability went down nor do enemies hitting me while having weapons equipped get damaged. Keep in mind it was my minion who attacked me via misdirection and not me using my weapon to attack it.

If this were consistent, enemy minions attacking me would also be dealt damage if I had a weapon. Another explanation is that I was inadvertently attacking my minion back, but that doesn’t make sense either because it was the minion that got triggered by the misdirection and not my hero. The latter reason would also trigger weapon durability to decrease and any effect of weapon, but that’s inconsistent to how the entire weapons mechanic works in this game.

No, that’s exactly what’s supposed to happen.

Weapons only lose durability or trigger their on attack effects when the weapon wielder attacks, NOT when the opponent attacks the wielder.

Attacking characters always trade damage based on attack values. Your minion takes weapon damage because your weapon is unsheathed and your hero has an attack value. On your opponents turn, your weapon is sheathed and your attack value goes away. That’s why enemy minions attacking you don’t take damage.

There is nothing here that violates any rules of attacks.

Where is the logic in doing your unsheathed weapon’s damage to your own minions but not when others attack you? Game design it makes sense balance wise I guess, but it seems stupid that your weapon will, under the few existing circumstances, will only dish out damage without losing durability to friendlies.

But that’s interesting to know that if your weapon is unsheathed it counts as attack value just as long as it’s your turn. Where else can you take advantage of your unsheathed weapon apart from attacking?

Been that way for years. Exactly as you explained it. I don’t see it as a bug.

Misdirection is essentially an unplayed card.

That HSReplay says “This card is not being played in any popular deck in this game mode right now.”

If someone plays it, it was almost certainly randomly generated off some other card.

If Blizzard secretly removed the card from the game, I wonder how many weeks until someone noticed.

Man , I just love Misdirection, one of the most fun secrets when it hits well.

Used to love the combo of Explosive Trap and Misdirection when playing aggro/secret hunter and you’ve lost the board, your opponent has a bunch of low health minions + a fatty.

They attack in with a small minion, which triggers the Explosive and kills all the small stuff (plus ,don’t forget, that extra 2 points of dmg to face!), then they attack with their big boi and get heavily punched in the face, bonus points if they have a weapon and attack with that instead, killing their fatty and taking a bunch of dmg while using a charge, soooo good.

agree with you, no reason to take damage based on weapon. But that will be interesting of a weapon effect. 3 mana 3/1 weapon (your hero will always be of this attack value when weapon is equipped) prolly too strong for aggro deck with no weapon removal.

For new players (players that havent encountered these interactions before) it might seem confusing. Another reason why some form of basic rulebook would be great.

In their push for “simple” rules, the HS team made some mess with interactions hard to predict for new players.

If weapons did damage when your hero was attacked during opponents turn that would be a huge advantage for warrior/paladin/rogue.

Every single one of their decks would run a weapon just to equip it and never attack unless dire emergency. Which would have to be responded to by the inclusion of weapon removal in every single deck.

Would probably make an excellent Paladin Secret though.

Retribution 1 Mana Secret - the next time your hero is attacked, deal your weapon damage to the attacker.

Misdirection doesn’t weigh odds correctly.

OP nothing wrong with your example.
You have a weapon up and a minion on board. Your Rex opponent has Misdirection up.

You attack face with your minion, that minion gets redirected to your face, and takes damage from your own weapon. This is fine, normal, not-wrong, what have you, and yes for new players it comes as a surprise at first, as it did to me the first time I encountered it. It almost always gets an emote from your opponent because they are unsure what happened.

This is because Misdirection never gets (or saw) play because it has been off.
Misdirection overweighs face when choosing a target. Like all the time. Anyone else notice this right? I’d assume so for how obvious it is.

I recall doing a good 50+ matches a while back.
A lot of matches, in a row too, like meaning back to back, Misdirection would send my opponent’s minion to their face, as opposed to trading with one of their other minions on the board. Especially when there are 4, 5, 6 minion targets for Misdirection to choose, it will go face more than it should.

Three problems with Misdirection:
1 - Misdirection absolutely overvalues your opponent’s face. Overweighs it. Test this out, it’s very-clear. Notice how face is chosen way more often than odds should allow, over a large sample size too. There is no doubt that Misdirection isn’t working evenly, it overvalues face.

2 - Misdirection doesn’t stack, meaning has anti-synergy, with Freezing/Wandering. So on top if it being bugged and overvaluing face all the time, Misdirection doesn’t want to be-played at the same time as Freeze/Wandering. Floating mana is game-losing, most of the time, especially for Rexxar, you know because lack of comeback, draw, aoe, heal, etc. So you really will lose holding onto Misdirection for a turn or 3 to avoid anti-synergy with Freezing/Wandering. Follow? Yes?

3 - WIld’s meta is totally not in a state where Misdirection can matter.
Ever heard of in-hand-combos? Like battlecry things? Misdirection doesn’t disrupt 2 card battlecry combos.

Ever heard of Big Priest or a res-pool?
Misdirections like…ok…here I shall help you win Big Priest / youtube browser. Even if Misdirection worked properly, Big Priest / YouTube would love to see MIsdirectoin, even if it redirects to face wayyyy moe often than odds should allow.

Devs, look in to Misdirection.
1 Double check Misdirection has equal odds between minions and face for target-choosing. It seems the card has a 2x, 3x, 100x multiplier put on face.

2 Please allow Misdirection to remain untriggered if played after a Freezing/Wandering.

3 Also, since it’s a hunter-thread, buff Flare, right now, please and thank you, t-shirts on the way for Flare’s cause. If we don’t speak out about Flare, it’s always going to remain in the waiting area outside the Emergency Room, next to Shiv. Like they’re both hanging out together wounded and suffering.

Nope, I’ve never noticed this, and that’s because I usually wanted it to hit face, Confirmation bias.

On opponents turn, your weapon is sheathed. That’s why it closes out at the end of your turn.

On your turn, your weapon is unsheathed. That’s why it opens up on your turn

Also, I think misdirection is heavily underrated. Probably one of the better secrets if you know how to use it properly. The problem with it now is that it’s being pulled via a minion onto the battlefield. You generally don’t want this secret played that way. You want to control when this secret is played.

It is sheathed when they attack you, though. When it is unsheathed, you have an attack value, so attacking you causes damage. As for the logic of why a weapon would be sheathed during you opponents’ turn? Eh.

But I do think it is a vastly underutilized mechanic. They should have minions that let you unsheathe your weapon during your opponent’s turn.

Your weapon is unsheathed only on your turn.

As far as I am aware, enemy minions are never able to attack you on your turn.

Are you saying this does happen, and when it does, your weapon doesn’t damage them?

If so, please give details.
