In this post: FAQ: Ranked Mode Overhaul Matchmaking . It says that the The minimal initial star bonus is based on your rank last season. If your star bonus is n, is the amount of star you get per win 1+n or just n.
It’s just N.
It’s listed as a bonus, but is a multiplier.
For example, I had an 8 star bonus for March, so I got 8 stars per win a Bronze 10, reducing from there on upward.

ok thanks then does this mean you cannot get 2 stars in diamond 5 any more?
You can if you were upper Legend the season beforehand. The decay is only 1 star per floor.
Winstreak bonuses stop at D5 though, just like old Rank 5.

What exactly is upper Legend? Some say it’s top 200, some say top 10%…
That’s a good question. Top 200 has been used for a metric for some of Blizzard’s stuff in the past, but I’m not entirely sure. I don’t recall them giving an exact breakpoint for it.
