Mind Control Tech steals whole board against Grimmer Patron

I was fighting against Ranger Ar’ha on Wing 5 heroic mode with the Infused Modifier. My Hero was the Druid with the +1/+1 hero power. With the Emerald Goggles, I played Grimmer Patron on turn 1. My board grew as normal until it was Ar’ha’s turn on turn 4. She used her double battlecry hero power then played Mind Control Tech. I had a full board of Grim Patrons, each with different buffs. In this circumstance, the Mind Control tech would have stolen only 2 minions, one for the base minion and an additional due to her hero power. However, my “entire board” of Grimmer patrons was stolen by this single mind control tech, causing me to lose the match. All I did that game was played the first patron, then kept buffing them up using the hero power.

Ranger Ar’ha’s Hero Power stacks and lasts until the next Battlecry card played. No bug here.

The hero power of Ranger Ar’ha is different from all other “double battlecry” effects in the game in two ways:

  1. It does not say “casts twice”, but “casts one extra time”.
  2. It does not include the usual “… this turn” in the text.

Due to the combination of this, Ar’ha can stack her hero power over time. If she uses the hero power but does not play a battlecry, then next turn uses her hero power again, then the next battlecry casts three times. And ifs she then again does not play a battlecry, then the turn after that casts even four times. So she can keep stacking until she uses a battlecry (and then it resets again).

However, you said “entire board”. I’m not sure if that’s literal or a figure of speech. If it is literal it would still be a bug, because as soon as you are down to three remaining minions any further re-casts of the Mind Control Tech battlecry should not do anything.

Interesting corner case. It could possibly also check the condition once at the start, then resolve all stacked effects if it applies. Brann + MTC seem to check every time, is Ar’ha really handled the same way?

Could possibly be explained if it happened in wing 3, with all the carts in play, but I’m not certain. Usually untouchable tokens aren’t considered minions for the sake of other effects. But certain conditions where minions are counted will generously include them in the total. I know Reliquary Seeker will include them despite calling for “6 other minions”. On the other hand, minions that expect no other minions in the Battlefield, like Eerie Statue, will usually ignore them. Most effects fall into the latter category. I’m not sure, but if Mind Control Tech falls into the former category, three carts and a repeating Battlecry would explain it stealing the whole board.

It is literal. i had no minions after the triggering effect. But I did not know about the stacking hero power!

Then I believe that would be a bug. Each of the repeated battlecries is independent, and tests the condition (more than 3 enemy minions) independent, so if for example you start with 5 minions and the battlecry triggers 4 times, then the first 2 should steal a minion and the last 2 should do nothing.

In order to help zoom in on the root cause, can you recollect any details of what else was on the board, what spells were cast, etc.? Also, which wing of the Heist were you playing in, what boss were you fighing, at which difficulty level, and if you were in anomaly mode then what anomaly was active? All those details can be important to help understand the root cause.

If you made a screenshot immediately after this happened, or (better!) if you played with an addon that records all games to hsreplay.net, then please share that information (there is a sticky topic to explain how to do that).
