Mechanic Suggestion | Idea for Conceding matches

First time using the site/posting-
Apologies if this isn’t the right spot, but going through the websites directed me here and implied Blizzard employees might see ideas from these community posts.

Some friends and I were playing/talking about Hearthstone, specifically about people conceding matches right away or in response to a game suddenly turning against their favor, and we had an idea we think would be easy enough to implement and would appease those of us upset by an “early” end to a match. (Without upsetting those looking to save a few seconds between games).

We also play MtG and often use a “Scoop at Sorcery speed” rule. We think something similar would be almost perfect, at least for the end of games, for Hearthstone.
Since Hearthstone has the advantage of being a digital game, what if someone who concedes on an opponents turn still leaves the game, but the opponent is able to play out the rest of their turn?
(As if they had conceded at the beginning of their next turn, despite having already left to their next game on their end.)

The player who leaves still gets to save time on matches that don’t go their way and the remaining player would be able to do whatever it is they feel like on their (final) turn.
(Get more quest progress, showboat their hand, or even just the satisfaction of watching your final animations drop the enemy hero, etc.)

Couldn’t think of any issues it would cause and we don’t think it’d upset anyone.
Honestly it may not be a high percentage of people who’d enjoy this, so maybe not worth it to add, but we did see a good amount of posts from people upset over conceding “early” and it doesn’t seem too intense of a feature to add.

(I’m not sure I’ll be on here often enough to check/interact with this post, but please feel free to leave any support if you, too, think this would be a nice addition to the game and hope Blizzard might notice… or give us crap about our whinin’/tell us why we’re wrong. Whatever floats your boat.)

My opinion, as a former Magic the Gathering tournament player, is that every second my opponent spends NOT conceding is a waste of my time, and that I want them to concede as soon as possible such that I can move onto either my next opponent, or grabbing a bio break between rounds. I have zero interest in stunting on an opponent who has already lost; I consider it to be bad manners, because I wouldn’t want it done to me if I was losing.

I don’t think I’d get along with your friends, and I am fiercely opposed to your entire suggestion. Scooping is and always will be faster than instant speed, as it should be.

Oh, and no one involved with game development at Blizzard will ever read anything here.

I can think of two reasons why it won’t work (3rd one is extra):

  1. it would increase the matchmaking timers for people because 50% of the players would play slightly longer games

  2. it’s not feasible to implement - you can’t resolve the previous match until both parties are over with playing, so you can’t synchronize the MMR/rank changes at the same moment. I believe this is doable, but not at all feasible to implement. I’ve seen them struggle with less daunting tasks.

  3. it does sound like a weird, niche idea. I don’t think many people would agree that this is attractive for them at all

I do agree, as would my friends, that flashing out your hand when you have the means to win already is too much in MtG. We have “Scoop at Sorcery speed” because of things like interrupting combat or changing the importance of spells for other players. (We tend to play Commander, which is naturally a multi-player format.)

Anyone is still allowed to scoop anytime, it’s just more of a courtesy that you don’t interupt an opponents turn for no reason. (We’re not at a tournament, time isn’t really a factor for casual play, no money/prizes are on the line, etc.)
Of course, this is a bit more about MtG than Hearthstone, so may this all ^ isn’t as applicable for a 1v1 game lol.

Thanks for letting us know about them checking things here. Maybe we’ll come up with a solution to please casual and more competitive gamers alike and find a way for Blizzard to see it.
