Make XL decks a separate mode

It’s been fun. I’ve enjoyed it but it’s time for it to go away. Twist was a flat out failure so maybe put 40 card decks in that slot. Their win condition is predictable. It’s pretty much: I have more cards than you and I’m just going to wait you out. XL versus XL equals a really long boring drawn out match

I’m burned out on it

Renethal is arguably a bad card because your deck stinks by having more cards. Players like it. I use it in one of my control decks.
In a couple of months, he will rotate to wild though, so not too much longer.

I can image that Renethal will become a core card after the next rotation.

I don’t think that’s too much of a stretch at all, actually. He is immensely popular.
I keep forgetting that core will also change, so this is a factor to consider.

As somebody who likes Control decks, I do think Renathal needs to go. He’s like a tax on value strategies because you lose any mirror if your opponent has Renathal and you don’t, so you have to have him.

You can only escape Renathal by having a clear win condition like Sif, Odyn, or Rheastrasza. And only a few classes have those, obviously…

Renathal has to go.

Part of set rotations is to make standard play different.

If people continue keeping everything they like this will create stagnation.

I would even go as far to say that we already live under certain level of stagnation because devs keep too much old stuff in standard.

My ideal core would be something like :

A core made of 3 parts:

1.Hard core:
This is where you keep tech cards and all the stuff you would end reprinting if they rotated.
This never changes.

  1. Recall core:
You can bring some older cards here.
With that said i would consider putting 2 main rules here.

2.1 Your card has to be atleast 4 years out of standard.
2.2 A card from that block can’t stay for more 2 consecutive years in the core.

  1. Neo core
It’s a small block made for new cards that are free.

Not only people deserve a cookie sometimes but the core set has tendency to get powercreep.

So here you can release a small amount of new cards like 1/2 per class per year that will take slots of cards getting out of standard core during rotation.

Value matches? Whats this 2015? I never seen a game go to fatigue, unless its a priest mirror

For aggro/consistency, yes he is “bad”. But with thousands of cards to choose from, 30 cards is/can be pretty limiting. As a yu gi oh fan, the decks are 40-60 cards. Most people will use 40, because it will be more consistent. But there are also decks which may want expanded options, so they have more. It is a tradeoff. Neither is better or worse necessarily, but depends on what your goals are and what you are trying to achieve.

The only real bad part about Renathal is that he is a plain 3 mana 3/4. That is the real downside.

It’s more complicated.

Everyone and i’m reinterate. EVERYONE. Wants more consistency.

The deal with this is about how much other benefits you can find to make the downside of less consistency be not so bad.

It’s also why there is no “reverse renathal”. Because you would non ironically get even control players using it.

One common example of non control renathal usage is questline hunter.

Since the deck"s win condition always starts in the hand and the card quality for this deck not vary a lot you can have 40 card decks without make the deck worse due to inconsistency.
And the extra health help you in damage races.

Removing Renethal creates stagnation by the very nature of removing the card from play. Now every deck is always locked into 30 cards instead of having some variance by choice.

At this point we know they have the technology so why not just make the card deck limit between 30-40 and your life pool matches it?

Are you not playing standard at all? Like seriously. Mill druid is every where.

Renathal is an anathema. It should not have been printed and I look forward to his departure from standard.

I hope the nerf is reverted and he can live forever in twist and wild.

I disagree. I only know because I am a person who cares very little for consistency. So there’s at least one person. And more, if anyone is like me.

King Renathal
Your starting deck is 60 cards but can’t contain duplicates.
“I dethroned my former master”
“The guests are all here!”

Would it even be possible to construct such a deck?
If so… Challenge accepted.

Would have to be a class that has insane draw. So, yeah. Druid.

Cool for you “bro”.

But i’m was talking in a objective way.

Control for sure wants to be sure to have it’s removal in hand when needed.
Less cards makes that also easier.

And for fatigue there will be methods for extend your deck a little that will make you get better at it than other 25/20 card decks that will get so common that mostpeople will even forget that 30 cards ones exist.

Unless it gets adjusted to it like:

25 cards 20 health.

But then i doubt most people would use.

im hoping for renathal on the core set like tradeable cards it deserves thge spot

I think that the “contract” for Renethal was that mill wouldn’t be viable so that we could put more cards in the deck thoroughly in the “drawback” column. Because no Cuddles having more cards is always bad except vs mill.

But mill is viable and that just messes with Renethal on a design level
