Make Shadowstep a Legendary

The excuse as to why Shadowstep “can’t” be nerfed or rotated is because it’s “Rogue’s Identity”. Despite this, other class defining cards have been nerfed or rotated. One only has to look at cards such as Ferocious Roar, Innovate, Mana Worm, Starving Buzzard, etc. I argue Rogue’s Identity is cheating game mechanics better than any other class. If it is represented by a card, why is Rogue the exception while other class defining cards get hit? Why does Rogue receive more cards that can cheat Legendaries, like Breakdance, while still maintaining the strongest form in Shadowstep? There are cards that imitate Shadowstep, but don’t provide the sheer mana cheat and combo break of Shadowstep, yet Shadowstep continues to exist untouched. In the least, if Blizzard insists that Rogue gets special treatment, and refuses to nerf a single copy of the card, why not make there be only one copy? As years go by, Battlecry only gets stronger. Shadowstep hinders game design. Astalor was nerfed largely because of Shadowstep. Yet it still gets abused. Just make Shadowstep Legendary. In essence, isn’t it already, in all but the fact that one gets to cheat and have two? Make the Rogue have to actually think about when they can use their one broken combo piece that breaks multiple rules.

This card has seemingly been problematic from day one. This card has so much potential that rogue’s cards are designed around it (albeit poorly).

Has there ever been precedent wherein a card has been mage legendary?

Rogues will not endorse this suggestion. As I believe Cramer pointed out, there is precedent and that precedent is that the rarity of cards does not change as (far as I’m aware).

Edit: I mean, I don’t think is a bad idea, however, the class relies heavily on this card.

People complain about shadowstep but it is far from the only card that cheats legendaries. Maybe a better question is why are legendaries able to be replayed outside of keywords like echo? Copying/replaying legendaries is how we not only get shadowstep abuse, but ramp druid, cold storage shaman, and a few priest sheningans.

#MakeAmericaGreatAgain

But yes, tradition needs to be broken, otherwise we cannot make progress. This idea that America was great back in the 50s and 60s is delusional.

The same should be applied here, and if that means nerfing a card and buffing others so as not to destroy the class, so be it. I know no rogue players like that idea, but the card’s a problem.

The better of two evils. But let’s not get into that.

As for Shadowstep, I am looking at its mulligan and drawn winrates and they are not abnormally high. I mean, the stats are pretty on spot with what they should be (~50%). In other words, we may be wrong about this.

I find it funny how people talk about shadow step but forget about break dance. People were kinda freakin’ out before the expansion launch but then laughing when they didn’t see it become a problem immediately with launch. I was just sitting there with mixed feelings…grinning evilly imagining what I was going to eventually attempt in Standard and knowing what I was about to get away with in Wild; but dreading running into it when playing other classes lol.

About the democracy thing people keep bringing up in these forums, we would all do well to try to understand early law and the reason why democracy exists in the USA at all. There is abit more to it than “Murica!” and the notion that democracy is freedom. People tend to forget the “Republic” part while endorsing pure democracy but don’t seem to know why these two things were added together when forming the USA. They are even unaware of the Continental Congress…

P.S I don’t mean to imply you or anyone else in particular is unaware of these, I just wish more people would try to understand history and take off their filters (rose-tinted or crap-tinted) when they do look back. Even I need to read up more.

Hey, I don’t deny that there are other broken cards that probably shouldn’t exist. Nevertheless, whataboutism is no justification, IMO. Two wrongs don’t make a right, say they say.

I didn’t mean it to come off as whataboutism. Was just adding a bit of extra commentary. Ooopsie daisy.

You do have a point in that cards are designed inconsistently. Some classes don’t draw very well and run out of steam, meanwhile other classes can draw their entire deck far faster than they should be able to. Then there are the examples you present. I honestly can’t make sense of the design philosophy. I don’t think there’s much sense involved, alas.

As far as fave and best presidents go…I think people often support the narratives that are most politically convenient to them. This ends up misinforming more people who don’t bother to read up on history. I see good and bad in historical figures…narratives tend to focus on one part and leave out another based on what someone wants you to know (and sometimes this is what they themselves want to believe). The same can be said somewhat of sides to a war too…sure one side does something bad but few people know what the other side did to help create tension.

In considering the recent change to DK and its (in)ability to discover three rune cards, this idea is not farfetched. I’m on the fence, because it’s often a pleasantry to find a legendary card that turns the tables. How does the opponent feel about that? I’m sure, not so good. Games shouldn’t be based on a gamble (AKA discover), IMO.

I have zero knowledge of Marvel Snap, though I do see their commercials on YouTube. Blizzard should take the hint and hype up the game like MS. There ought to be an ad campaign.

(Edited for wording/grammar.)

The problem is that a core design philosophy that is strictly adhered to is. Discovery effects that find legendary cards provide players the opportunity to play cards they would otherwise not have access to.

If you want to change how legendary cards are discovered you are going to have to fight that first.

They don’t want balance they want sales. In the end it’s all about money, which is why DK will not be made a bad class because it’s the new kid on the block bringing new players into the game spending money.

Great compared to what? It’s not great compared to now. But it was certainly better than the 19th century.

Imagine being born a thousand years ago. There are a lot of things worse than the 1950s. Such as the vast majority of human history.

I think you mean if the suits wanted a good and balanced game they allow the developers to do it.

You really gotta work on your straw men. I specifically referred to the 50s an 60s as what many Americans consider some sort of gold age. And yet, that phase of history was even harsher on minorities. I did not say “let’s look back 1 to 10,000 years.” Besides, again, that’s irrelevant as well.

One more thing @ScrotieMcB. This is a general suggestion. Please, stop trying to turn every discussion into this pseudo-intellectual debate. It is unnecessary and the topic is about a ccard in a DCCG,

When we look at the history of rogue and broken things they have done, shadowstep is almost always in the middle of whatever insanity is going on. It’s waaaay past time to remove it or change it.

I would like to see the mana discount removed or the cost of the spell moved to one so that it cheats less mana.

You’re the one who brought the 1950s up.

You really got to work on your straw men. The only people who think the 1950s were great are 80-year-olds and the 3% of Americans who are deep down the white supremacist rabbit hole.

I brought up the 50s and 60s because, alas, far too many citizens believe that, somehow, that was a golden time or something. I brought it up, but not to debate you, Scrotie. It is, nevertheless, a bit frightening when politicians and their supporters advocate for times that were, frankly, insane and hateful. We are seeing this today, as well.

At any rate, I am being a hypocrite. I come here to avoid the reality of politics, and I say as much. I do appreciate your help in helping me to realize this. This is a DCCG forum, and we need to chill a little bit, I think. That includes me.
