I’d like to suggest that Blizzard either modifies the current arena or create a new arena (maybe name it something like Colosseum) to give players more skill-based gameplay. Arena is fun, but there is too much luck involved, particularly with legendary card distribution. Some players get none while others get multiple. I’m sure you all have had games where you clearly outdid your opponent with your skills without any legendary cards but then your opponent ended up beating you just because they played one legendary card after another to turn the tide. I’d like to suggest that legendary cards are removed from Arena or create a legendary card free arena called Colosseum where people can compete based more on skills.
Part of the skill involved in arena is playing around the rng.
That’s only true to an extent, not in extreme situations I’m describing. Maybe this hasn’t happened to you, but there is no playing around freakish luck, especially if you weren’t given powerful cards like legendary yourself but your opponent got multiple. I’ve had situations where I dominated the game and my opponent had only 2 cards in hands. Then, he played N’Zoth re-populating his field. I dealt with that, but the subsequent turn, he played Ysera the Dreamer. That is not about skill at all, and there is no way to work around that, not in arena.
Holy crap i was just gonna say get better, but at the same time. Arena Ysera, old Ramming mount were just ridicolous snowballs. Not to mention while rare, priests with benedict are also lots of crap to face in a mode you can barely draft spells.
(Though tbf they are rare and priest is rare, but still. Nontheless spending a entire arena game just getting constantly removed snowballing when you both have junk cards is a little much. )
I think for the most part arena is fine, but i really feel like cards like Ysera in arena. (9 mana 8/8 draw 5 gamewinning cards in arena), or snowball cards like that could use a little ban or something. They’re not that common, but man is it kinda bleh to try and eek out performance of a meh deck only to be rewarded with the highrolls of the century if you climb with a bad list to say a 9:2 with a deck of just bad cards mediocre cards piloted high enough to see highrollers gallore.
I had a mediocre deck i piloted to 9:2 once that faced a guy with 2 Arena yseras who wiped twice with about nothing in the deck having synergy but a warlock with that card that summoned a 1/1 for every minion in hand.
(With like complete otherwise vanilla cards)
Needless to say, most of the deck sucked and it was a wonder it didn’t just die at 4:1 or 5:2. It was a awful deck and something would have killed it eventually, but man… was double yseras from a highroller fun.
I guess at the same time, almost everyone left in arena are the people who play 24/7 and it could use some fresh blood though.
So maybe highroll cards let newbs occasionally get lucky sometimes.
But at the same time, maybe just for new players they could make a button like ‘practice your deck’, completely untied to the wins or losses in arena.
(Just like a casual), that let new players practice with their drafted deck anytime. Maybe it could have a mmr system as well for casual play like duels, to let new players practice their deck without getting roflstomped, but not giving rewards or losses either.
(Maybe to stop people from camping decks in the mode you could limit each drafted deck to only like 2-3 practices though.
Enough for a new player to test their deck out and have fun. But not enough to roflstomp other decks forever.
IDK, arena could use some new blood, at the same time, no one really needs to be pushed to be the fodder in pvp. Free arena tickets always seemed fun for everyone though, but i guess they’re baked forgetably into track.
A couple free arena ticket weekends always drove tons of people to arena though and that always created lots of other new players for newbs to fight and free food for arena rankers to play. I guess it’s not a mode that has to be pushed, but it does feel a bit forgotten bar the dedicated sometimes.
Yea, extreme cases are rare, but probably not as rare as we think. It’s also possible that I play Arena more frequently than others and so face extreme cases more (I get bored with regular game play because everyone is using same copycat decks without any originality most of the time, so I play Arena instead). I just lost a game in Arena where my opponent only won because he played multiple legendary cards. I didn’t have a single legendary in my deck, and I was dominating the game until he played Zephrys, which of course gave him the perfect card to turn the tide. But, I still managed to counter and still came on top of it. Then, he played Overlord, another legendary, that let him resurrect minions whose effect killed my minions. In this Arena run, I actually lost 2 games because my opponent had multiple legendary cards. Before Blizzard began producing extreme legendary cards like Zerphrys, Ysera, etc., it wasn’t such a problem. In its original form, Arena was balanced. Legendary cards were powerful but not insane back in the day. But now that we have insane legendary cards, Arena is out of whack.
Fun fact: You can’t play around ‘RNG’ in this rigged trash game.
arena is all about rigged, skills and luck are no where to be found there.
Not sure about being rigged, but I just had another match where my opponent played Ysera the Dreamer and N’Zoth. If it weren’t for these 2 legendary cards, I would have won the game, and I didn’t have a single legendary. This isn’t as rare as some people think apparently. I’ve had similar matches in Arena for the last 3-4 days consecutively. I wish Blizzard would do something about this ridiculousness. Unless of course these are Blizzard’s sil AI players with legendary cards that are designed to reduce people’s winning earnings in Arena.
Ofcourse it is rigged…I play HS mostly 'cause of arena and I saw so many strange and unbelievable things in arena that are proof that it is rigged or that it is broken beyond repair…
For example, yesterday I played against a player who had THREE Zephrys (maybe even more,he played three)…not one,not two,but three copies of extreme powerful and useful legendary minion!
I had like, thirty cards of disappointment and no legendary…
Arena is probably the most rigged mode in HS and you do not need any proof more than just playing it regularly to know that it is rigged.
The only times I felt Arena might have been rigged was whenever Blizzard released new expansion. I noticed that I encountered ridiculous combo decks in Arena around that time. It didn’t make sense why/how there could be so many organized decks in Arena when cards were supposed to be random. I don’t have any use for gold coins other than Arena, so I still play, but it does seem quite broken.
Yes,exactly! I even made a topic here about how arena is strangely unbalanced more than usually at least for a one week after new expansion comes out…
Same, when I have gold I rather pay arena entrance than buying packs, this way I can play arena, maybe get some card (mostly useless rare),dust or gold and pack is guaranteed as a reward…
I played alot LoR and arena (expedition) is like paralel dimension compared to arena in HS,first time I try it I managed to have all wins and got pretty nice rewards, but in HS is a miracle if you get four or five wins in the end…
Gotcha. I figured others had to notice that trend too. Do you have a link to that thread you created? I’m curious to read what was discussed.
I’ve been playing HS since its beta release, and I don’t remember this being a problem in old days. I used to consistently get at least 7 wins and above. I ended up with thousands of gold in the end. But, at some point, Arena started to show suspiciously strong players with organized decks.
Yeah,I thought that it is probably deleted 'cause it was posted with my other acc that is banned now haha but here it is,but there is no many discussion about it,few replies and that’s it:
I started to play two years after beta and it was still a good fun to play it but it all went down a drain I would say somewhere around expansions descent of dragons and saviors of uldum…
Thanks for the link. It was still nice and validating to see a few others commenting on “the strange trend.”
Arena mode should be cancelled, because I always get screwed and my opponent has the best options!! Ever!! This mode should be disabled forever, it shouldn’t even exist!! Waste of time and money!!
don’t play it then
The only reason why I play arena is to convert free tickets in new packs.
Duels is too difficult if you have no idea on what cards are there, but arena is still winnable even if you aren’t an arena expert (I lose 90% of the time)
In the end you’re just a fan who keeps giving money to blizzard… I don’t care about your biased opinion! Who plays arena only loses money! This is the real one, now you deluded fan and still want to deceive others!

In the end you’re just a fan who keeps giving money to blizzard…
I am not giving any money to blizzard, I am probably the most casual player that is usually active on this forum

I don’t care about your biased opinion!
The don’t use a “discussion forum”

This is the real one, now you deluded fan and still want to deceive others!
I literally wrote that I lose 90% of my runs!
If I am lucky I get 3 wins, which isn’t enough to repay the ticket; this is why I suggested you to NOT play it.
At the same time, I find it a good way to convert the arena tickets that we have, which are otherwise useless.
I know you don’t care, but really, learn to read and comprehend before replying

I literally wrote that I lose 90% of my runs!
What’s the point of spending money on this mode?? This mode should be extinct, I still know that this game mode is managed by only one person, that person has no idea how to improve the mode!! Just check out Dean Ayala’s reports on a website.
Well, for me this mode should be extinct, waste of time, it’s not fun and these tickets will continue to accumulate!
