Loser's queue and hidden mmr ('rigged matchmaking')

I don’t know, I’m currently in high Legend and the video makes some good points… it’s an interesting theory but like mentioned we can only speculate

I watched it, but as far as I can tell, it simply states that rigging is possible. Hidden mmr and a desire for profits. Yes, MM could absolutely be rigged (and honestly it wouldn’t really shock me to find out one day), but this video is all about keeping the players engaged.

Too many wins or losses are bad, so the video/paper suggests that they would want to deliberately fix games to ensure these results. Meanwhile, as many, MANY people have pointed out, a normal MMR system will achieve this result over time. The video doesn’t even touch on the actual games themselves, which is likely a much bigger factor for people deciding what to spend their time on.

Sorry, but i don’t think this will work with a card game. Maybe Racing game with cars or FPS like counter strike.

Something weird is happening to me. All day today and yesterday, playing Pirate Warrior and such I ran into little to none Warlocks. Tonight, I am trying to construct a Deathrattle Priest and suddenly keep running into Questline Warlocks.

Note that this is confirmation bias. Take this as an example of how these people think and why they think how they do. I have to admit, even me, was initially very suspicious. It’s really hard to overcome that feeling.

You can think whatever you want really…

Card games aren’t rocket science BUT It is actually fun when you put bronze players to play against legendary ones.

For every funny video about bronze player beat legendary Guy there is a ton of matches were the bronze player got utterly destroyed.
Those matches used to happen before ranked changes bringing bonus stars and mmr based matchmaking so there is no need for someone to “claim” anything.

Older players literally experienced playing absurdly one sided matches during the start of the months thanks to the skill Gap between ranks.

You could literally play against a top legend player with being at a rank that was less of the equivalent of Gold nowadays If you played early enough in the season and was Lucky/unlucky (depends on How you see It).

And so I switch to Big Warrior, and am being matched against QMs. Yeah, not rigged.

Quick, buy some Mercanaries bundles!

Draw RNG, which already exists in card games and there is no reason to tweak it in any way. You’re delusional, just like any other conspiracy theorist.

Also the person, who can at this moment concentrate better. Because that ability is influenced by things like frustration.

Yes, but the original premise was “if you make no mistakes”, which means whatever condition you’re in, it doesn’t result in any mistakes anyway.

Of course in the real world the “you don’t make mistakes” is practically impossible.

Is it just me or does this seem like yet another reason the participation trophy generation/s are the way they are when it comes to competition?

The way I was raised was to win. All of the time. If you don’t win all of the time then whoever beat you was better. End of story. There was no losers queue or 4th place wins (bgs). You were good and won or not as good and lost. Which pushed you to do better.

Am I being a stupid boomer?

Yes, it’s just you. This has nothing to do with participation trophies. This has to do with psychology, namely confirmation bias and faulty pattern recognition.

As for placing in competitions: there’s nothing wrong with rewarding players that didn’t come in first. I mean, look at the Olympics.

That’s a fixation on being The Winner or being Nothing (“the winner takes it all, the looser’s standing small”). In any kind of group contest, that puts 1 person on the shield while tossing all other aside. Not the best way to strengthen social bands and mutual appreciation, more like a shark tank.

I do belong into this “(stupid) boomer” category, age-wise :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: - but wasn’t raised nor ever lived by that principle.

To add to this, who would even judge whether or not a mistake was even made? A game viewed in real time is much different than a game viewed on HSReplay, especially when played by the best players.

A lot of what a player does and doesn’t do coveys information an opponent might pick up on. An “obvious” misplay might actually be a bluff/feint to deceive an opponent.

Getting some serious Ricky Bobby energy from this post.

Isn’t The Ballad of Ricky Bobby more like a fanfiction of Pixar’s Cars?

I also grew up with this types of values , my gandma always told me that the climb to sucess will be filled with failures and when you do fail to get up move on and strive to be first again.

The world is not a kind place , the new ideology going around that we should shield our young and tell them they are already perfect while rewarding them just for existing saddens me greatly.

I wouldnt be half the man i am today without the hard trials and harsh failures i had to endure, what i got from my family in those times was encoragement to do better next time never praises for mediocrity.

Ya know, people say things like this, but it doesn’t reflect reality. Not all, not even the majority, of parents are telling their kids they’re perfect, to not strive for success and first place, etc. And honestly, if a parent wants to tell their kid they’re perfect and unique, so what? There’s nothing wrong with that, because to that parent, it is true.

Sorry if you had a rough upbringing wherein you weren’t appreciated.
