It hasnt been a thing in many years.
I rib you often enough but in this we are in agreement: Wild is a mess. Some classes have such strong cards that they get one or two extra card every expansion and they keep thriving. Rogue is a great example: the amount of cheap draw this class has is ridiculous.
Wild situation is a vicious cycle. Not many people play Wild because it is a mess. Team 5 does not fix Wild because not many people play. Wild is getting worse because there is no balance being made. More people leave because Wild is getting worse.
That being said, it is a fool’s errand to expect Team 5 to fix Wild. They do not want (and now probably even can’t) make Wild more balanced because there is no financial incentive to do so. Unless a miraculous change of philosophy occurs Wild will keep getting worse and the playerbase will shrink until the inevitable end.
I agree with this.
Still; it irks me that some classes are nerf worthy, while for others: “wild is wild”.
Seems like eventually all that will be playable are just pirate decks.
It all started when they allowed 40 health, 40 card decks. Then it snowballed from there. Once they decided to “break the rules” the powercreep of each new expansion has been insane.
There are two parts that make the core of Wild playerbase: players enjoying broken, aggro-deck gameplay, and those players who enjoy competing for rank 1 in something, and play Wild exactly because it has less competition, so it’s unlikely that this will happen.
There’s always gonna be someone competing for rank 1
I am sure that there are people competitive in Wild who would play even if there was only 10 of them left. Not that Blizzard would care, they would cancel the mode long before that.
I am sure there were competitive players in Duels and Classic but you can’t compete when they cancel your competition.
Suddenly shutting Wild down would also be a miraculous change of management philosophy, since it doesn’t cost them a dime to keep it
It’s not like they do any balance for it or anything.
Oof, good that no one said nothing about a sudden shut down then, disaster avoided.
They did absolutely no balance to Classic and yet it is a distant memory. Funny that.
Look, I do not know why you want to deny reality: modes are being shut down pretty often in this parts of Blizzard empire. I am not saying that Wild is going to be discontinued any time soon but there seem to be some discontent with the (hur hur) state of the Wild: people complain about the meta, streamers try to avoid the mode as much as possible. But at the end of the day no one knows: it may go for another 5 years or come next tax year some exec decides that he can save 1million bucks by axing the mode there and then. Time will tell.
Standard was a blessing because there are cards and mechanics I never want to ever see again.
I think the breaking the rules started earlier than 40 health/cards. Might even be as early as when they took most charge out of rotation…
This is a kind of breaking the rule in the sense that it was implied there’s some rule against damage from hand to get charge removed, but then Bliz ignores this rule when making all the other ways people can win from hand. And so we just keep getting more and more ridiculous win cons, since there’s really no rule anymore.
You don’t like a buffed leeroy killing you on like turn 7? I saw reddit today that a concierge druid can OTK on turn 3.
