Ladder algorithms - Wild

Hello anyone who is reading this,

I started to play Hearthstone again after a looong… looong… time, at a time where the ladder was far harder to climb than today. Since I came back, last month, I managed to climb into Legend 2 times, a success that I never managed to reach before because there wasn’t any “steps” between tiers as I remember.
I am really glad this has changed.

I used to think that Legend was a more cosy place to play, as your matchups wouldn’t be grinding as much if your elo is weak. That it is a nice place to try out some new decks.

This statement is actually correct but there is a point where if you start to lose too much games, you end up getting back against tier 1 - 5 Diamonds where matchups are mostly dumb aggro or combo decks where they find lethal at turn 3 - 5, no offense to them tho, I like to play these decks also. Especially if I try to get to higher tiers.
But I was asking myself, is it that much of a good idea to make matchups from Legend to Diamond and lower tiers? Why wouldn’t it be Legend against Legend only?

Might be from the lower popularity of Wild than standart that makes matchups a bit harder to make or other reasons I cannot imagine as I’m not a dev?
In all cases, this make me a bit frustrated at times.

Matches are based solely on MMR now. While you get to see the other player’s rank once you hit legend, that doesn’t really matter. If you are playing low MMR and see meta decks you’re probably seeing someone who is trying to climb like you did.

I’m in legend but frequently see gold or even bronze players because my MMR is so low.

It’s a good idea in the sens tha tyou are matched against players of your estimated skill level, regardless of the rank
That’s applicable to all ranks, a bronze player can play against a diamond player if they have the same skill level but one just hasn’t ranked up yet
It’s better that way than good players matched against ‘less good’ players on their way up

Ooooh ok this makes much more sense now, thanks.
So it’s all my fault, I’m getting karma’d haha.

I’m still thinking it would be great to not get back against Diamonds and lower tier tho, what do you think about it in your case?

I want to play against people playing at my level with meme decks like mine. This system allows that. If I were to I ly face legend players I’d git more try hards because the available pool is much, much smaller.

It also means that every now and then I can see someone at diamond 1 and concede out of the goodness of my heart.
