Knights of the frozen throne!

We all remember the death knights from Knights of the frozen throne.
Let’s play with the idea that they will make a comeback next expansion, given the theme of the cards.

" When played, Legendary new Hero cards transform your normal heroes into terrifying Death Knights!"

(class, name, battlecry, hero power(HP))
Druid: Malfurion the Pestilent. Choose One - Summon 2 Poisonous Spiders; or 2 Scarabs with Taunt.* HP: Choose One - +3 Attack this turn; or Gain 3 Armor.
Hunter: Deathstalker Rexxar. Battlecry: Deal 2 damage to all enemy minions. HP: Craft a custom Zombeast.
Mage: Frost Lich Jaina. Battlecry: Summon a 3/6 Water Elemental. Your Elementals have Lifesteal this game. HP: Deal 1 damage. If this kills a minion, summon a Water Elemental.
Paladin: Uther of the Ebon Blade. Battlecry: Equip a 5/3 Lifesteal weapon. HP: Summon a 2/2 Horseman. If you have all 4, destroy the enemy hero.
Priest: Shadowreaper Anduin. Battlecry: Destroy all minions with 5 or more Attack. HP: Deal 2 damage. After you play a card, refresh this.
Rogue: Valeera the Hollow. Battlecry: Gain Stealth until your next turn. HP: Passive During your turn, add a ‘Shadow Reflection’ to your hand.
Shaman: Thrall, Deathseer. Battlecry: Transform your minions into random ones that cost (2) more. HP: Transform a friendly minion into a random one that costs (1) more.
Warlock: Bloodreaver Gul’dan. Battlecry: Summon all friendly Demons that died this game., HP: Lifesteal Deal 3 damage.
Warrior: Scourgelord Garrosh. Battlecry : Equip a 4/3 Shadowmourne that also damages adjacent minions. HP: Deal 1 damage to all minions.
Deathknight: N/A

Personally, I think shaman would be a given core if they keep pushing for evolve.
Warlock had a great HP, now the battlecry would be lacking.
Druid might become guff 2.0 with this.

Do you see them bringing them back as core?

Now let’s imagine we work at team 5, we need to power creep these! how would you go about it?

They seem to go back to the same tropes year after year.

When do the current hero cards rotate?

Ye, I know guff rotates, and magister, so all rotate maybe?
I think the flavor of the cards above and the fact that the rotation happens that new might come with new this year. or core.

And with all negativity in the forums, I figured it could be fun to have some fun as well. I contribute a lot to the negativity haha.

mercenary heroes rotate in April.

I don’t think we would see them return until the year after this upcoming one.

I can see them take a full standard year of HS year without any quests or hero cards.

They brought them back already for a couple of weeks before March of the Lich King and they were atrociously underpowered for the modern game.

They haven’t waited that long since Quests and Hero cards were first introduced.

Year of the Mammoth: Quests are introduced in JtU; Hero cards in KotFT.

Year of the Raven: Mammoth quests and heroes are still around. Shaman, Warrior and Hunter get individual hero cards.

Year of the Dragon: Mammoth quests and heroes rotate out; the three Raven heroes are still available. One expansion without quests until SoU adds new quests. DoD brings more hero cards for the Galakrond classes, plus Mage gets Reno in the miniset.

Year of the Phoenix: The three Raven heroes rotate out; SoU quests, the Galakronds and Reno are still available.

Year of the Gryphon: The Dragon quests and heroes rotate out. Only one expansion without Quests before SW adds new ones. Two expansions without Heroes before AV adds new ones.

Year of the Hydra: The Gryphon quests and heroes are still around.

Since Ungoro, they haven’t gone longer than one expansion before adding new Quests. And there have only been two expansions since KotFT when there have been no hero cards available in Standard at all.

So, they may not bring back quests and heroes in the next expansion, but expecting none in course of the full year seems unlikely.

I don’t consider galakrond to be the same thing, but sure.

I still don’t think we see anything like that next year.

Hero cards and quests have been nerfed many times and that’s lots of free dust, lol. I see them going cheap so they don’t have to refund legendary cards.

Why would giving back dust be a consideration?

Both Quests and Hero cards have been massively popular every time they’ve been released. That’s why they get so many complaints: because lots and lots of players want to play them. Compare the level of complaints about Pirate Admiral Hooktusk or Harvester of Envy. Both of those do things that opponents usually hate, but almost no one complains about them because neither card sees any real play at all.

Why would they stop printing card types that have been huge draws simply because those cards may need to be nerfed at some point?

interesting, did not play that period so missed that.

Nice breakdown, personally I like hero cards, if they are not beyond op. magister is on the too close to too strong.
Guff I can’t hate more.
I don’t mind cariel. she punishes people not running an ooze, rogue one I don’t mind too.

So I hope for some mid-tier heroes, but people always find a way to break the meta so.

They reintroduced the whole KFT set and only about 2 cards were playable (Animate Berserker in Enrage Warrior and Spreading Plague in Ramp Druid). Every other card in the set basically made your deck worse.

i wouldnt be surprised if they put the DK heroes back in standard next core set and they release a DK hero card on the first expansion

Feel the hatred of 10.000 years.

Anduin is pretty bad without raza

I appreciate you also realized blizz re released an xpac but just did even lazier design and balancing than in that era

I sincerely hope we don’t have Quests back this year. It makes for such linear gameplay and what made a solitaire-esque meta for the longest time.

However, given the fact they’ve followed closely with WoW/Classic as far as theme goes this last year, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Primalists/Aspects as some sort of Hero card or Questline stuff, tho I’d lean more towards more likely getting something like Galakrond Hero cards.

Man

We didn’t even need a Hero card for DH when they first entered the fray of HS. We ALL felt this 10,000 year pain in the first 24 hours.

I like the idea but there are 4 reasons i think we will not see a return of the DK hero in standard.

  • If it were to happen, it would be this expansion. Next one will have a complete different theme.
  • Because of the power creep, a lot of those DK hero cards will be underpowered.
  • Blizzard wants and frankly needs to print new cards for us to buy. They don’t want you to spend 0 cent and play in standard with the cards you already owned for years.
  • Blizzard will probably introduce new hero card next year, and they probably don’t want standard to have multiple sets of hero cards for each classes.
