Idk why rotate them out early. They are not even broken. Sure they are strong but not gamebreaking. There are also tech cards vs them such as mindbreaker. Pls leave them blizz i feel like odd paladin was okay because if you cleared his tokens then his fungal and warlord were useless so it was balanced
Remember, kids, don’t feed the trolls.
blizzard actually didn’t have enough cards from the classic set to send to the hall of fame, so they rolled a 3 sided die and it was agreed that some witchwood cards had to go.
On balance we can debate… I think inherently Baku Warrior would have been an issue going forward as well as another deck potentially.
What can’t be denied though is that Genn and Baku would have overshadowed the entire RoS hype itself and for that it was probably a better decision to HoF them just from a business perspective. I am also quite glad they remembered the support cards as well.
they couldnt stand that baku enabled so many cheap competetive decks…
thats the real reason
odd paladin would have always been there, not costing anything
even odd rogue would have still worked
than theres cheap odd hunter, that at least at the trash tier ranks woill win enough games
all cheap, not much need for expansion cards, everyone can pretty much craft such a deck, in his starting week
( still i admit, that i am tiered of the same odd decks, since last year)
Trolling is supposed to be discreet, I award you a 1/10 OP.
you can bet blizz’s die was rigged!
You clearly needed this post because you didn’t understand the problem at all.
It’s not as much about balance as it is about variety. Genn and Baku are very strong and not broken BUT they
a) limit the cardpool options way too much and therefor limit game variety
b) (and this is way more important) they set the focus of matches on hero powers. This is a cardgame, not a hero-power game. If Baku and Genn weren’t that good, they’d not be as annoying but if ever 2. or 3. game starts with a direct advantage for one side which then tries to press the hero power almost every turn, you have some VERY boring and repetitive matchups.
In short: They were okay but strong enough to see frequent use. Players (like me) grew tired of almost every match starting with “None will surive” in Ranked and then seeing my opponent spam that hero power like there was no tomorrow.
Nope, get rid of them. Mindbreaker is a lousy tech card that only lasts for one turn at most. Does nothing to stop the nonsense. Armor warrior is a horrrible game experience.
Baku was the real problem, but I can’t say I’m sad to see then go to the great monster graveyard of Wild.
I would also have liked if they where given the full 2 years, they didn’t bother me and I did like playing around with them.
There can always be an argument made to remove a card early, like cube deathknights or whatever. Its a very bad precedent.
Did you try reading the blog post where they said why?
a**ku and Genn are powerful cards that have promoted new strategies since their introduction in the metagame. Those strategies have been more prevalent than we’d intended in Standard, and we felt that they might end up overshadowing what we’re going to introduce in the Year of the Dragon. In order for set rotation to breathe new life into Standard and maintain overall health of the ladder, we are rotating Baku and Genn into the Hall of Fame a year earlier than normal.

when will this rotation happen today?
Hearthpwn has a list of when the launch is expected to happen by region.
A little late to the party, aren’t we?
Mindbreaker Rotated so no more tech for it so they had to rotate early.
