I have been very negative about most of the past few years expansions and I don’t wanna be a guy who just posts when salty (happens). This time, I want to appreciate the devs: I’m actually surprised how much of an impact this Miniset had and how much of that is positive, in the sense of what I consider a healthy variety of interesting decks. As a longtime player I appreciate the direction, for the first time in a long time no deck feels oppressive, there is a lot of creative sillyness around. I want to encourage the devs to embrace creative sillyness, no game should ever be an excel chart, gaming is about creativity. So: thank you.
I didn’t like the miniset at first but I gotta say I am having fun now. I’d like protoss to be slightly better (also to counter some of tjhe greed out there) but they aren’t bad so still feels ok to play them.
Overall this miniset is clearly a success and a step in the right direction. One negative for me though, I wish the StarCraft cards were a little more versatile to use in non-StarCraft decks. But I guess it also makes sense for them to be kind of their own thing.
7/10 miniset I’d say
I think this is by far the best miniset of all time. Reddit seems to agree.
Tons of people love it.
It’s not shocking. Usually, minisets just breathe more life and power into current decks. This one is way different. It has 3 very distinct new play patterns that are seeing play everywhere, and it feels really cool.
All 3 new play patterns are completely different in styles and it’s very diverse. Almost all of the cards from the miniset are also seeing play.
This is like a solid 9/10 miniset imo.
I look forward to a Diablo crossover now.
I think the biggest lesson they should learn from this is that what people really want, even more than strict balance, ‘fair gameplay’ or player agency, is novelty. What the game needs is constant shake-ups and a meta that continues to evolve. A settled meta is a boring meta.
The best way to do it is introducing lots of new, strong, viable cards. But with the amount of interesting cards they release every set that end up seeing zero play they could also achieve that with bolder, more significant balance updates every 2-3 weeks.
This miniset has a great feel to it partly because the cards are fun but most importantly because they have almost completely replaced a meta everyone was extremely bored with (except for dungar and weapon rogue). We kinda forgot about the oracle nerf but it’s no small part of this success.
Too many Zerg DK players in this thread lololol
The mini is mostly overrated for 2 reasons. 1 it’s just the expansion chopped off in pieces to pretend they now have a miniset so it wasn’t a great miniset exactly but a very bad expansion launch (do we seriously think the sci-fi theme of both was coincidental?).
And 2 and most importantly the miniset is mostly clunky Excavation-wannabie packages that are very deterministic that people will hate the moment they nerf them because the main reason most like them is that they win with intentionally-temporarily-OP cards.
