Noooooo!
I played someone and won - in just 5 rounds!
And, it would have brought me up to the 3 stars level…
But, no. My connection is hung and I probably won’t get credit.
Ugh. Screenshot to prove it, though!
EDIT:
Well, OK. I logged back in and did get credit for the game.
But, WTH do I need to do to get to 3 stars??
Just how many games in a row do I need to win?
Does the star increase not work while you’re playing Wild?

The win streak bonus only doubles the stars you get. If you’re still in apprentice you can’t get more than two stars per win. The saving grace though is since you don’t lose stars as long as you’re persistent you will eventually graduate from apprentice level.
Oh I just noticed you said you’re in wild so you’re definitely not in apprentice anymore. Your star bonus is assigned to you at the beginning of the month. It won’t go up while you’re playing.

So, if I understand correctly, I won’t see a star increase from 2 to 3 until the month following the time that I earned it?
If I earned 3 stars this week, I won’t see them until July?

Umm, no I’m kind of confused now.
When you win games you should get your stars immediately. I was talking about the bonus stars when I said those are set at the beginning of the month.
So at the beginning of the month you get assigned a certain amount of bonus stars based on your rank the previous month. Every game you win you’ll get those bonus stars. You can also get double stars every time you win during a win streak.
Every five ranks you go up your star bonus will decrease by one until it goes back to zero.

All star multipliers, win streaks, etc. are separated for each of the 3 formats.
For example. I finished Diamond 1 in Standard(9 stars), Legend in Wild(10 stars) and Bronze 5 in Classic(1 star).

I believe the floor for your start-of-season star bonus is 2 stars.

Is it? That tells you how much Classic I play.
Thanks for correcting me.

Then I am squashed like a bug. Both my floor and my ceiling are 2 stars!
OK, I’m still not understanding… Just how many games in a row am I supposed to win to make it to 3 stars? When the program is trying to aim for a 50/50 W/L ratio, (and noobs are lined up against mega-players) how do you get 5 or 7 or 10 wins in a row?
Am I just not understanding the ranking system?

Short answer: If you make to to Silver 5 in one season, you will start the next season (calendar month) with at least three bonus stars. You might “might” get three bonus stars without reaching Silver 5, if your hidden MMR is high enough.
The number of Bonus Stars you get at the beginning of the season is base on the higher of your MMR and your final rank last season.
You lose one bonus Star (this season) every time you reach a new floor (Floors at rank 10 and 5 of each color).
Blizzard expects you to grind (with no Bonus Stars) to the final floor of your Rank/MMR.
If your rank/MMR last season was Silver 2, your “final floor” (the best floor you reached) was Silver 5. You will start this season with 3 Bonus Stars. You lose one at Bronze 5, and one at Silver 10. For the rest of the season you gain only one star per win (except for win streaks, if you won your last two previous games, your next win gives you double stars, unless you are already at Diamond 5 or better).
“High MMR” generally means a very good win/loss ratio. For instance in May, for ranked Classic I started with 2 bonus Stars, went 7 wins - 3 losses (70% win rate). That only got me to Bronze 5, but the win rate was good enough that I still had a Star Bonus of 3 in June.
In June, I only made it to Bronze 7, so for July my Star Bonus is is only 2 (the floor).
