I don’t mean in terms of power but in terms of fun?
This is the most unfun day 1 release day I’ve ever experienced. I’m already bored of the meta. It’s the same thing and most of the newer stuff is unplayable.

This except a few outliers like murloc pally and that druid deck.
Everything else is either old meta and most of the new stuff can’t even compete I’m taking a break till this gets fixed.
i haven’t played any of the new cards, and I haven’t seen anyone playing them either
Yeah, I just went 12-2 with Loh Druid and I can’t do it anymore. It’s just another high roll scam like Dungar or Big Priest back in the day.
I just want to play something new and creative, it’s frustrating.
Made it into L815 with homebrew elemental shaman by farming the druids and pallies. Anti-meta gets me into legend once again.
I just played for 2 hours to do some quests on ladder and went to D2 playing just a slapped together FFU DK deck. Just smorc and send all the frost to the dome and games over.
I’m sure these two decks will disappear once players realize you just go face and beat them. On the down side they will stick around and hurt other decks emerging. Have to see how it pans out over the next two weeks.
I just played some OTK priest with that new elemental, from L150 fall into L300. Results were 7-15, losing most to loh druid and murloc pally. Winning warlock, priest, warrior. I think my deck lacks consistency (no tutor for the most important card) and cycle power, or maybe stuck with full hand vs draw. It’s a bit annoying since 2 decks fill almost 50% of the popularity.
But i think it will be fine after a week for more stable meta.
P/S: there 're another version of wilted priest with voljin and bird watching to tutor wilted, but it also be bad against loh druid and murloc pally.
I think I agree, S. At first I was excited for a discover mage deck, but these cards seem weak to me. No way can I do anything but a random mage discover deck. There is no way (I don’t believe,) to tailor the cards to a fire aggro face deck, which is what I had imagined. ie: the spell for the burn changes, due to discover, but the fire to the face never does, lol.
That would have been creative and fun for me. sigh.
This team is sorely lacking in inspiration, if you ask me.
Yeah, that weapon is not meant for a deck like yours.
It goes in a deck that has the 7 mana discover 8 cost or more card and then it plays the other two or for playing with ETC and having it play the other 2 cards in ETC for free.
It’s a value generation deck, not really a burn deck unless you specifically set up an OTK in your ETC or something.
i am having fun. but also losing to the same old decks in Wild sometimes.
The time that you could get that from Hearthstone is long since past.
If that is your expectation, you will be constantly disappointed.
I do think there is a lot of room for creativity, they just don’t use it as often as they should.
Starships, Plagues, etc. Those are mechanics they have never done before they were introduced for the most part and spiced things up.
This expansion has nothing really new.
Kindred is just the same thing as “if you played an elemental last turn” stuff rehashed.
All kindred did was force you to narrow your deck composition if you want to take advantage of Kindred. In several cases it’s just not worth doing because it would force you to play some severely suboptimal cards.
I’m not really a fan of it yet but i have messed around with a couple different decks and will continue to refine. My fear is that it will end up being too weak and older decks and keywords will be better.
Yeah, this was always the issue with the old elemental decks as well. It forces you to basically build a set 20 something cards or lose consistency.
It really hinders deck creation creativity and part of what draws people into Hearthstone is deck creativity.
I thought the last expansion was the worst one in years. I’m having a bit of fun in this expansion but the card design is just not very good. Its a shame they werent able to make interesting quests like the mage & hunter one (hunter probably less so than mage) but the creativity has long since disappeared from the card design team. So the quests being mostly bad doesnt bother me at all.
I do hate the poorly conceived card design though. The DK wave spell should be usable in triple frost… adding the unholy rune is just perplexing. Cryosleep being 4 mana is unforgivable as well. Glacial advance was only 3 mana and was effectively 1 mana with the mana cheat embed. My high hopes for triple frost dk were ruined because I couldnt properly read the runes. Also I get relic of kings should be used as the quest reward finisher for mage… but its still too expensive. I put it in a no minion mage deck for the manufacturing error into 8 cost spell and its pretty mid even when you hit the combo.
Warlock is a giant mess though and needs some immediate help if it doesnt want to be stuck playing year old decks for the next year.
I expect we will see a ton of quests buffed to require less cards being played and a lot of imbue stuff nerfed into the ground. Theres no way they’re going to leave the new expansion stuff so bad.
Also for anyone wondering huddle up got a pretty big buff with gladesong siren
I couldn’t agree more. There hasn’t been a good Warlock deck in awhile other than the location thing which was just another reiteration of handlock.
At least I can have fun in wild with Warlock I guess.
And yes, I really do expect some serious buffs on all the quests other than Paladin, especially in the Rogue/Priest department. They all need some help tbh. Or just nerf some of the stronger decks to see if the other quests can come online.
See i don’t think they will buff them. Too afraid of a Stormwind repeat.
They can buff them without making them super strong. The problem with Stormwind is they went way overboard.
Giving the Priest minion quest lifesteal doesn’t make it broken. It just makes it playable for example.
No need to go overboard.
They absolutely have to buff them though. They can’t let them sit at 20% win rate. That’s horrendous.
no Nax with the original undertaker was, I think there were 99% people just playing hunter it was so busted! though I think now its about the powerlevel hearthstone is ‘just at’ xD
though back then the devs were pretty good and had it nerfed fast
Yeah, but I’m not talking about power levels. I’m talking about actual having fun on a release date. I’ve never had less fun than this expansion.
Almost all of the newer stuff is so weak it doesn’t see play. Other than murloc paladin and loh druid, we’re really not seeing anything else other than what was already being played last expansion.
All the menagerie stuff, etc are already picking up in play as people are putting down decks that are too bad to play.
First few hours everyone was playing quest decks. All of them but Paladin are bad and they are all dropping in play rate and people are going back to the old stuff.
It’s as if half the day was the only variety, and we’re already back to last week’s meta forming again.
Overall, the excitement of new cards is already gone before the first day is up and I’ve never had that happen before for me personally.
