How would you feel if you had to re-adjust the volume every single match. It also only takes a couple seconds. Or what if you had to change the language every match? It only take a couple clicks. Wouldn’t that get tedious after a while?
I do that every match when I squelch someone. And guess what? It doesn’t bother me at all that I have to squelch each match. Do you know why? Because I’m not the kind to whine over something so simplistic and barely takes any time at all to do. Like I’ve said before; if doing that is too much for you, then Hearthstone isn’t the game for you.
First of all - lol. I do. Believe me or not. It’s the very FIRST thing I do after selecting my starting cards. Move the pointer over player’s portrait, right click and squelch. It took .5 seconds (maybe less, maybe more?) but done. No whining, no crying, I just do it.
Oh and “Hard thinking moment”? …
BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH!
This is Hearthstone, thinking is bare minimum in this game.
Secondly; It’s relevant because the option to squelch is already implemented into the game. Activision shouldn’t hold your hand to auto-squelch just because you “were thinking too hard”. BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH! Ahh that’s still making me laugh.
i would like a squelch and well Why not ? If it takes 1 day to code in order to make people happy ?..
becouse some people just keep hitting the emote button i would like to squelch them
So wouldn’t it be nice so you don’t have to do that every single match? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to click something once and not have to do it again until you want to make a change tot he setting? Of course it would.
Additionally, the squelch actually falls off far too often for those playing on mobile devices. Having a toggle could eliminate that problem, too.
Oh, I think Blizzard listened. I think Jesse definitely passed along our feedback. I just think the devs blew it off and offered no new information, leaving Jesse in a very tough position with nothing to share other than, “No change in position; not implementing at this time; see Brode tweet from 4 years ago.” I, on the other hand, explained why I did not agree that your objections were sufficient to sway me that auto-squelch would be bad for the game overall.
Sure, I could list the drawbacks too, and I’m sure you remember the tons of things I spewed against it, and don’t get me wrong… I still don’t “get it”, and I still don’t like to encourage a diminishing of an already limited communication interaction…
But, I think the people doing it are already doing it, like Skruff says, and I do think it will encourage more people to be unfriendly… but maybe not that much.
I think the negatives will be nullified by the positives and nothing will change (overall), except what squelchers are already doing will simply be automated.
I don’t wanna play with those unfriendly people anyway
Not really, to be honest. You’ve already said that you assume the people you play are out to do harm to your feelings, which really isn’t a good way to engage in a two-player experience.
This is an individual issue and not one the devs need to address. This is a social game and emotes are part of that. They can be a fun part for many players. AS goes against the core of what the game is.
Other games have it but they are trying to get where Hearthstone is. Why mess with a winning formula?
The squelch function is a simple mechanic which does not need to be explained.
In my experience, this is a great community and the bad apples are few and far between. I’ve been around since the jade card back came out and I have rarely felt the need to squelch.
There are solutions for this individual issue.
AS is not the same as the music or screen settings. It’s a completely different issue.
AS is not “easy” to implement in one day.
This is a complex issue. The devs have been better lately about communicating information about changes and updates to the game. They have explained why some plans have been put on hold and they have implemented other QoL improvements. They have not made any comments about implementing AS. I’m sure we’ll be the first to know, right after reddit finds out.
Complete strangers? Yes. Not really interesed in engaging with strangers. However, through the discussions here, I’ve gotten to know a few people, at least on a limited basis. In fact, I accepted a friend request from one of the participants in this discussion. Regarding my comment above, I was responding to Right. And if I were to come across Right in a Casual matchup, I’d be delighted and would even send a friend request. We may not agree on this issue, but I’ve come to feel that he’s a person with whom I might like to discuss other topics. I’m not going to get that from some random stranger pushing cards at me (let alone obnoxious emotes). My friends list in battlenet is very short. And so is my “friends list” irl. And I prefer it that way.
Need? No. They don’t need to. But they ought to.
Not really, no.
Yes. They can. And they are a sour part for many others. Those who enjoy them can use them. Those who do not, can turn them off. And they ought to be able to turn them off and keep them off.
Um… no. The game’s about playing cards. Not about pushing emote buttons.
How so? All three set your preference for a particular feature. Yet one of them resets to a different setting every single match. How is your volume preference different from my emote preference.
Not really.
Not all that much better. They ought to come out and explain why this dev team opposes the squelch toggle. Engage with the customers and discuss their concerns. Are they afraid we might persuade them to change their minds?
