I'm convinced the "well played" gesture is

A form of toxic gloating:

Why? Because you almost NEVER HEAR IT USED unless your opponent is about to win or thinks they’re about to win. It doesn’t matter how well you play, they ALWAYS play the gesture at those times.

For example there have been tons of games where i played like absolute crap, getting bested in under 4 turns but I never fail to hear that gesture just before they win. What farther cements this idea is how much they will SPAM IT just before they win.

Yeah, i could squelch them but then i gotta do that every single game and not only do i not always wish to do so but its tedious too boot.

I’m not proposing anything here, just an observation is all.

i use my emotes all the time, sometimes just so i can hear my own emotes

if you dont like it, just press the stop button

There should be an auto squelch button in the UI.

I had a couple of friendly opponents who gave me a well played before I beat them today and they knew I was about to beet them when they gave the well played. Actually, I am a little surprised they gave a well played and stayed around for me to finish them off. I was playing what I would call a scam build in warrior with that 2 mana spell that changes the deck to 5 or more cost minions. (even the agro demon hunter told me well played when I had a turn 4 that got me 2 tirions, a 4/6 and a 3/6 on the board)

I think the players are not using the well played emote much when they lose because they are getting more upset and angry at the game more and more. this is just a hipothisis, but we do see more streamers leading the way on that (RDU, Zeddy, silvername etc.

I would use my matches as an example where since I play extreemly of the wall decks when I win I do get well played emotes fairly often and very friendly request where they do tell me they had fun during the match. (I can’t really say for the past month or so as an example, since I have not touched the game this expansion until today).

Not true. I use well played every time I lose or win.

Also…emotes are so…well jeez …just meaningless. I can’t believe anyone would ever want an auto squelch. Seems like first world problems.

Common courtesy is not a concept this community embraces. This game is full of toxic people who enjoy gloating and taunting other people. The funny thing is everyone in society makes such a big deal about peoples feelings to the point where they despise Donald Trump for being “mean” to people, then those same people get online where they can hide their identity and then display the same vile behavior. These people are called hypocrites and why the gaming community is so full of it probably stems from alot of people with low self esteem and mental health issues.

I use it at the end of almost every match, whether I’m winning or losing (unless I’m too slow when losing… the emotes get disabled after losing very fast on mobile, if you weren’t aware). Pretty much the only time that I intentionally skip it are when I’ve been dealing with a roper or emote spammer I had to squelch. You may think it’s BM, but I think it’s the equivalent of shaking the opponent’s hand after a sports game, which is the opposite of BM. shrug

Edit: if they’re spamming the well played, that is certainly BM territory, though, I’ll agree there. Once at the end of a match, no.

Fires of Zin Azshari? I wouldn’t call that a scam build, I’d categorize that in solid meme territory. Certainly fun to play with, and you might have good personal luck with it, but it’s not consistent enough to really be competively viable. Good on you for playing outside the box, though, I’d definiely give you props if I lost to you with that deck.

This is a troll right?

Yes.

People gotta play games with real chats to understand that emotes are small babies compared to what an average player can come up with xD

yeah, and they figure out how to turn a simple gesture into something toxic to make up for the lack of being able to type said gloat or insult.

And? Who does not deserve a Well Played for playing paint by number? It all depends when the emote happens. Before your first play is disrespect.

I read from somewhere long time ago that:

Emotes have some sort of psychological impacts which indirectly influence their revenue income.

That’s why they are reluctant to implant an auto squelch button despite the overwhelming requests over the years.

You’re the one turning it into a toxic gesture.

If you don’t say well played when you lose, you’re a sore loser, end of story.

What about the other people who you play against?

OP didn’t ask what you personally do.

raises finger to speak but stops, raises hand again but stops yet again

Not worth my time, if I went down this rabbit hole of attempting to prove auto gestures have been used toxically since their inception, I’d end with this guy fuming at how wrong he is and throwing petty insults at me due to having nothing left to rebuttal with by the time our conversation was over.

Sadly, I don’t have the time nor patience to spend the next 15 or more posts/replies pushing them to that state.

Also for those who call me “A troll” i’m only a troll to the trolls themselves. So if you wanna troll my posts or other posts and it strikes my fancy, I’ll take you down a rabbit hole so deep that by the time you realize i’ve set you up to look like an utter dimwit, it’ll be 5 posts too late. :stuck_out_tongue:

Lucky for me it’s not an intellectual competition so your claims to greatness can sit down.

The fact is people use well played to either say well played, or something else. The game takes that intended input and turns it into well played regardless of their intent. You can take the output and do what you want with it, personally I take the well played. If someone meant something else by it that’s their problem.

For some of us pretending that this, as well as many other behaviors are not passive aggressive actions doesn’t work.

These behaviors are often aggregated. If they didn’t confirm their mulligan, roped a Quest on turn one, emotedspam after playing Dirty Rat, I would have to be extremely naïve to now suddenly think they’re friendly emoting before lethal or after I hit concede (are they just holding up the emote to make sure it happens before “Defeat!”).

That’s a much more specific context than (the opposite of) “almost never”.

As for this specific scenario, the first two could be anything, sometimes I get distracted and wind up tuning into the game late. So I wouldn’t really think much of that.

Spamming emotes after dropping a card just makes me assume someone has developmental issues or is 12 (or both). maybe theyre easily excited… who knows, some people lead dull lives. Thankfully I’m not their parent so I can breathe a sigh of relief that no action is required from me, and continue relaxing.
