As just starting hearthstone again after several years, I’m not sure… maybe since the inaugural year. Buddies has killed it for me. I found battlegrounds out of mistake and after leaving on purpose a couple times thinking it was something else. I then researched the mode online, which led me to try again… Yeah, I fell for it. I actually enjoyed it more than regular Hearthstone, which I have spent real money on, have enjoyed it and made it to legend. All I can say is… small variations from the original framework of battlegrounds is fine. Buddies though, is a mess and it has after 40ish, forced me to stop playing hearthstone all together. I hope you remove buddies and it never comes back. The game is already dialed in, its fun.

Plain BG’s with no addition is boring to say the least. There’s nothing wrong with buddies. you just need to play more and understand how the meta plays out with buddies. IF you want to see bad BG’s then come around when anomalies are in BG’s and you will then see how bad BG’s can become.

I like buddies, I just think most of them suck. There’s like 3-4 I’ll be happy to get, a couple others I’ll settle for, and if none are available to me I just concede and try again.

I like when bg’s is a little less predictable.
Buddies adds a little variance, you dont have people playing the exact same deck regardless of hero to win In exactly the same way.
It’s actually the opposite there’s only about 4 maybe 5 heroes that are unplayable. The trick now is identifying the best buddy to go with the lobby as well as the hero. It’s not that easy and even the tools out there to help you pick correctly aren’t perfect.
Its 100% better than with buddies. Buddies are awful.
I would take plain BGs over most of the special gimmicks.
I like DM prizes and I also really like Diablo after they reworked him.
Facts.
When you only have two choices there’s usually not that hard of a choice.
Some buddies should be kept and others should be sold as soon as they have done their job,
but so far i havent found any very bad or unplayable… maybe because i only play duos, and you can combine them, in some way or another…
I didnt used to like them but this time i have to approve them…
They dont force you to play in a certain way like quests…

That’s a player choice. If you don’t want to pay the couple extra dollars then yes you are stuck with two choices. I play enough to justify the insanely small price it takes to play with 4 hero choice. It’s certainly cheaper to play than Standard unless you are FTP and at that point it’s a minor yearly expense.
Buddies makes me able to spend the entire round at tavern 3 as A.F.Kay, the sheer hilarity and power of this strat wouldn’t exist without em.
Still dislike buddies. When will buddies end, that way I can mark on my calendar when to come back. Buddies killed the game lol.
Shouldn’t be too much longer. The next big patch usually brings a new BG meta after the new set releases. Unfortunately the buddies meta always revolves around the hero you get. It’s easily the hardest meta to play in especially for new players.
Yeah, it’s just too much. I was around 60% win rate, now it’s hard to not concede after i see heroes. Only about 10 are playable IMO
If/when buddies come back around, they should find a way to not have them have a tier value or something.
The ones that you build up don’t work very well when you’re getting hit for 12-15 on, like, turn 4 or 5. They also shouldn’t be awarded earlier for getting lucky with a tier 1 minion. The cost should lower at a static rate, not be rewarded for lucking into a good t1 play.

Your Hero, The lobby and your play pattern changes dramatically depending on your buddy. There’s many factors that go into the buddy meta and the biggest is Hero selection. If you cannot identify the best Hero/Buddy for the lobby presented you will never get anywhere.
Keep in mind that the most powerful buddies were nerfed to tier 5/6 and they lost lots of armor. It’s a HUGE risk to play some of the most powerful buddies now unless you are confident you can make it to the mid game and get the buddy online. It was way worse before the mid patch balance a few weeks ago.

I also find this BGs meta bad. It appears extremely overpowered. The problem isn’t equality; if you get lucky you will win; it seems that the cards and effects are so powerful that randomness is a brutal deciding factor.
They really need to sit down and balance out the buddies better. The real problem is how important hero choice is. Having 2 vs 4 is a major advantage in this meta unlike in quests where hero choice is not as important.
