I'm a bit dissapointed Old Gods are Useless and Just bad

I was realing hoping c’thun would be a usable card but its truning out that he is just not that good infact, hes just hot trash.

I was realy excited for this expansion when i saw a new c’thun. I bought both pre orders and 40 additional packs only to not get c’thun and have to craft him. After experementing with him i found out hes garbage.

Honestly c’thun rogue is just a bad deck i tried to make it work out but all the stats are showing c’thun rogue decks are trash tier. Tried making a DH deck with it that didnt work. Tried a priest deck with him but priest is so bad right now its not even worth playing. Its worse than last expansion.

Honestly most the cool new old gods are worthless when the entire meta right now is in a state of aggro. Worst i ave seen since i start play a few years back. DH shaman and paladin curently dominating everything. They are forcing standard to be the way it is.

Honestly c’thuns spells just cost too much.

They should just lower them down to 3 mana and nerf what they do corresponding to the mana cost change.

Also need to add in that counterspell just stops it all making him even more worthless.

We could say just add him for the spells but they all cost 5 mana

Why does the spell do 3 damage To All minions? It should just be enemy minions. It cost 5 mana lol. 5 mana to destory a minion well we have cards that do that already for 3 mana.

Gotta agree for the most part, especially with C’Thun. While it’s possible to win with it, you need a combination of good luck for you and bad for the opponent.

Y’Shaarj and Yogg are at least usable since they slot well into control. C’Thun is just way too slow and iffy. If it were “destroy your opponent” it would be super strong. But at 30 damage you can’t even be guaranteed to win after jumping through all of those hoops.

I have see a quest warlock deck do OK with it. Yh class has so many board clears and draw that it’s possible to put the pieces together.

Isn’t that the point of every meta?

Maybe I should reword things.

We reached a power level where reworked old gods just can’t competent and the worst thing is we won’t lose the aggro package until they’re completely gone.

C’thun could use a buff. Maybe instead of going into your deck when completed it goes into your hand. Or will be the next card your draw.

You cannot make this card too good. 30 dmg is a lot…

Well its bad right now. Honestly they should just buff the spells cost to 3-4 honestly im fine with that it would be balanced cause everyone can use it.

Make the taunt minion a 4/6,4/5 or 5/5 and cost 4. The 7 dmg one 4. The 3 damage one should cost 3, it damages your minions as well. The distroy a minion one should cost 3 because rogue and warrior already have a 3 cost spell that kills a minion, it is a combo card but concidering c’thun is a combo.

This is just my opinion and a idea. Might still be too slow. All I know is hes hot trash right now.

If all C’thun spells cost 4 It would be a far better (if only for the utility of achieving effects previously impossible for a single deck slot) but would still be bad because too slow and dilutes your deck.

I would change C’thun spells to 4 mana and give a card that draws C’thun after you play the 4 spells.

Well there is lorekeeper.

4 mana seems good to me.

The power level difference between cards of the same cost is so vast these days.

Cthun is in theory fine as it is the problem is that the meta is very much weighted against any cards that cost 6 or more. Decks are keeping very low curves and aim to end the game before turn 10 for the most part, the only exceptions I found are maybe pure paladin and bomb warrior. If you’re paying 6 or more mana for a single card that needs to be a huge swing play like Malicia, Bran, or Liadrin.

I saw this sorta meta coming as we were seeing more and more of the cards for this set and this is a time where I really wish I was wrong. Their reluctance to print strong early game taunts and effective early game board clears is a problem. Control decks don’t have effective answers for the first 3 turns of the game and in the current meta that’s often half the game they’d go without answers.

That said I would be surprised if they kept things the way they are now. Having a meta where almost none of the legendary cards in the set see competitive play is a problem. Right now the only legendary cards seeing serious competitive play are Ey’sor, Lothraxion, and Sayge (EDIT forgot Ilgynoth and to an extent Rinling’s Rifle). That is not a good state for a set to be in. By comparison the other sets in standard have had the following:

Ashes of Outland ~ 12 legends that saw competitive play
Scholomance Academy ~ 15 legends that saw competitive play
Rise of Shadows ~ 10 legends that saw competitive play
Saviors of Uldum ~ 9 legends that saw competitive play
Descent of Dragons ~ 19 (14 if you exclude the galakronds that were free) legends that saw competitive play)

This set has 3. EDIT: 5

If we look at some of the weakest sets in HS history

The Grand Tournament ~ 4 legends that saw competitive play (aviana, chillmaw, justicar, and gormok)
Rastakhan’s Rumble ~ 3 legends that saw competitive play (shirvallah, zuljin, and loti)

I might’ve missed some since I’m going off memory but not a lot

Maybe some will prove to be more viable once the really strong year of the dragon sets rotate but with how strong the other year of the phoenix sets are it’s going to be very difficult for this set to really have any kind of major impact beyond giving shaman and mage enough tools to also have aggressive decks

EDIT: I forgot Ilgynoth and to some extent Rinling’s Rifle. Which would bring the total up to 5 still not good though

What about the hunter weapon? Honestly tickatus is a good card (op actualy) but warlock just cant keep up to get it off in general.

10/10 post btw. This set is dissapointing for sure when it comes to legendarys.

Highlander hunter doesn’t run it and the better face hunter lists don’t run it. Some face hunters run a secret package and they run it but the better versions don’t. Even if we include it that’s 4 legends.

Edit: 5 I forgot Ilgynoth

I don’t wanna get into the usefulness of mill here but you can say this sorta thing about a lot of cards in this set. In a vacuum they’re strong but the meta is just too fast for them and the biggest cause of that is SA and AoO so without a lot of sweeping nerfs it’s gonna be hard for this set to get much traction.

Thanks

i think some of those thun spells are overcosted because they are neutral spells

They are overcosted and they ruin your deck making it 4 cards more so in average ur deck is worse cos all good cards in ur deck you are drawing slower.

Maybe they should have cast when drawn

they should just make the pieces draw eachother (like "After you cast this spell, draw another C’thun Piece), it’ll make running c’thun faster.

Just my two cents: C’thun depends wildly on what class you’re running him in. I find him to be quite useful in Rogue, because the class has trash board wipes and taunts. C’thun’s spells help alleviate that. Then, in the late game, C’thun’s burst can often be a game ender, especially if you can discount him (had a fun wild game against a druid that had stacked a ton of armor where I played 0 cost C’thun, created a Shadowcaster copy, played it again, and finished my opponent off with a kobold lackey). But, your deck needs to have an alternative game plan that isn’t all reliant on C’thun, because you can’t guarantee getting the old god’s battlecry to go off.

The biggest issue is how fast the metagame is currently. Control decks don’t really need more big win conditions: they need aggressively costed board control, removal, and healing. Those are what help them stabilize against the aggressive decks long enough to reach their win conditions.

My wild experience while playing against cthun rogue is that with cards like drakonid operative you can discover the c’thun your opponent created and kill them with it. Like LOL that must have felt bad for my opponent
