If you could change one thing

If you could change one thing in each of the following categories, what would it be, and why?

  1. Feature. What would you add to the game? Extra deck slots, players stats, etc…
  2. Bug fix. Something CLEARLY not intended to work the way it does, either entirely or in degree. e.g., bandwidth hogging, the way cards in your collection reset to “not viewed”
  3. Card mechanics. Putting this directly after bugs because I feel like they tend to get mixed up. Is there a card/mechanic that you think should function differently than it does? e.g., deathrattle triggers, buffs working on copies.
  4. Game balance. Nerfs, new cards, HoF.
  5. Cost. e.g., Paywall for standard/wild, solo adventure, Arena cost/reward.
  6. Kripp

I would change ladder to be similar to the format of past tournaments. The current ladder relies on your “ability” to randomly queue into opportune match-ups for your selected deck, and this contributes to an overall lack of personal agency in a lot of games.

My dream ladder would see each player queue with three different decks for three different heroes. The coin gets flipped. Whoever goes second, gets to veto one of their opponent’s decks first. Then the opponent vetoes one of theirs. Repeat until each player has one deck/hero left, and the game continues as normal.

This would also resolve some issues / complaints about class polarization. If you veto Rogue because it is statistically played as an Aggro deck, or Warrior because it is statistically Control, it would encourage players to make decks that shift away from the established meta, in an effort to throw off their opponents.

If they ever make a veto system, I think this would be a good way to do it.

Bo3 is ideal but it takes too much time, your way of doing it seems pretty good.

  1. Nested deck slots. Screen of all 9 classes, then 9 slots within each class. (Being able to freaking reorder my decks is a close second to this)
  2. Definitely the ‘new card’ bug.
  3. I’d change Overkill to only work when the Overkilling minion is actively attacking something.
  4. Probably LPG to 6 mana.
  5. Dust returns being a flat 25% of crafting value.
  6. Lol

Thought about mine for a bit:

  1. More game modes. Like, several. I’d like something like Tavern Brawl to be what it originally was: crazy random games without these “Standard but” brawls, and also a mode with those brawls, and a co-op, and a free Arena without prizes…there is just so much fertile ground here that would cost Blizzard little and could provide so much joy to players, so I’m going with this.
  2. I gotta go with bandwidth hogging. But that’s because I’m a programmer who frequently works from home or a private office, so having a HS game running, streaming video or music, having multiple StakcOverflow tabs open, etc…, is basically my life.
  3. Make Hero cards interruptible. Or allow us to interact with them in literally any impactful way.
  4. Bring discard back. It doesn’t have to be good, just good enough for Tech.
  5. Get rid of packs. Let us buy the cards we want for some combination of gold/dust. And if the end result is something where those cards are onerous to buy, well, then that exposes the core problem with this economy.
  6. Facial hair.

Great suggestions. Perhaps in collection, we can have custom categories of decks as the container: aggro, mid range, control, OTK and have decks nested there. But class grouping sounds better.

I like that idea, particularly if you combine it with Wardrum’s idea. Click on a Hero, get a dropdown list of decks. I don’t think they have to be limited to categories, but let’s face it: for most of us, they usually would be: Aggro, Tempo, Control, Meme.

Wardrum, you are absolutely not allowed to call for a nerf to Pocket Galaxy. I’m the hero in this story. You’re the villain. I’m sorry. That’s just the way it is.

…said every villain ever.

Plot twist - I’m both!!!

  1. More deck slots.
  2. I guess the way cards reset is kinda annoying, but this issue seems way less pressing to me than any of the other catagories.
  3. Magic Carpet’s inconsistent behavior with certain cards. I. E. the new rogue legendary that makes your deathrattles in hand 1/1s.
  4. hmm…well, it feels too early for standard to make any calls, but in wild, nerfs to big priest would always be appreciated. Maybe by adding another tinkmaster overspark type neutral minion?
  5. Oh, I think the dust costs of cards should be more equitable, so it doesn’t feel so terrible to dust cards for crafting.
  6. dunno, can I replace him with Brian Kibbler? He’s my favorite HS streamer.

…hang on, everybody, X just gave it to Kripp

(edit: does that reference make me old?)

  1. I’d probably go with extra deck slots. But there definitely could be some other idea out there that I haven’t seen or thought of that could be better.
  2. I’d like to see secrets take into account other secrets that trigger before them. So, whenever the first secret that dealt with a threat was able to stop/eliminate that threat, subsequent secrets wouldn’t trigger in response. Not a major issue, but given that most secret require outside support to be the focus of a deck, probably a useful feature to bolster that option outside of go-all-in strategies.
  3. Maybe my complaint about secrets fits better here?? Probably yes.
  4. The primary card I’d like to see changed is moving Divine Spirit to HoF. Overall, fixed numerical values are probably better for the game than relative values like “double a minion’s health/attack.” An exception would be effects that say “X happens twice” when the effect is limited by the description itself.
  5. A better dust return on extra/unwanted cards — e.g. a flat 25% return on dusted cards such as non-golden commons and rares would give a nice boost across the board.
  6. Um… no idea.

Secret execution order is definitely weird

  1. Feature. Add the option to remove golden cards from copied decks same as is done in Arena (I’m assuming that it can’t be done and it’s not the case that I’m too stupid to know how to.).

  2. Bug Fix. Stop highlighting all of the cards I already have two of as though I’ve received new cards. I already had two of all those commons!

  3. This isn’t a mechanic per se, but concerning the Reborn mechanic, I’d like a different graphic. I don’t know why but the one used now bugs me.

  4. The main thing I’d do is scale back on “gift” cards. I get most salty when I directly lose to cards I couldn’t possibly predict because they didn’t start in my opponent’s deck.

  5. Well I’d like better drop rates on Epics, Legendaries and Goldens, but who doesn’t think it sucks to buy 40 packs and feel totally ripped off?

  6. Kripp is fine at what he does. My favorites though are Chump and Dane.

Ooo, I forgot about Dane. Dane’s great.

  1. That’s something I haven’t though of (my immediate reason for wanting more than an acknowledgment of the many good replies). Is this for strategic reasons?
  2. This seems to be the winner. It’s weird that this has been a bug for so long.
  3. Yeah, I’d consider this another feature, but no complaints about that.
  4. Yeah, these make the game less strategic, for sure.
  5. As always: Yes, but Blizzard ain’t gonna do it, because…
  6. Your lack of criticism, I will take as confirmation that Kripp is the perfect human being?
  1. Nothing Strategic…just my OCD that I don’t want golden copies of the core sets when none of my other cards are golden (except in the rare cases where I haven’t dusted them because I don’t have a regular copy).

  2. I don’t know about perfect hahaha, but I watch a decent amount of his Youtube vids and find him entertaining and informative. (In general, I only watch Youtube, not live streams on Twitch.)

I like that idea about another Tinkmaster type card. Guessing they’ll never do it, but they could revert Tinkmaster back to its Beta form of being able to choose the target and HOF it.

On a separate note…also forgot 7. Stop queuing into Control Warriors.

Totally. He’s a good early example of over-nerfing. Maybe “Change target minion into a random one with the same cost”? Wouldn’t be hard to set an appropriate body for that.
