This deck aims to have a very strong board presence while also not lowering much the probability to have a Lynessa OTK situation. It utilizes a 3-way combination of 1) Excavation (that includes Finley) and 2) the Lynessa main OTK package and 3) a varied package of helpful tools like Living Horizon/Robocaller/Incindius that are basically very relevant to a big hand and high draw and high spell damage.
The main reason I make it public is to hear opinions on want might be dumb in it (e.g. currently I’m unsure if Shroomscavate should be X2 and not just X1 because I often only need it once but at the same time it’s hard without it to enable Finley and Lynessa could double it as well which might accelerate it and even get a X4 Excavation reward (happened to me the first time I tried a variant)).
Dryscale Deputy is weak board-tempo but helps a lot for the OTK part. Maybe another approach would be to replace at least one of them with another Excavation card.
Thalnos is a bit sus for tempo too but it helps two ways with the draw and +sp.
PS I don’t know: I have so many combinations in mind with this deck.
I even thought of combining it with flood paladin lol,. (probably bad).
This sounds like an interesting and potentially powerful deck concept! Here are some thoughts and potential considerations regarding your Lynessa OTK deck with a strong board presence:
Strengths:
Versatility: The combination of Excavation, Lynessa OTK, and value cards like Living Horizon/Robocaller/Incindius provides flexibility. You can adapt to different matchups and situations.
Strong Board Presence: The inclusion of board-centric cards can help you stabilize against aggressive decks and gain tempo.
Lynessa OTK Potential: Maintaining the OTK potential while having a strong board presence is a challenging but rewarding goal.
Potential Considerations:
Shroomscavate:
X2: As you mentioned, having two Shroomscavate can accelerate Finley and potentially lead to a faster Excavation reward, increasing the chances of a successful OTK.
X1: Running only one can save deck slots for other important cards and might be sufficient in many cases, especially if you can consistently draw into it.
Consider: Experiment with both options and see which one performs better in your games. You could also try a variant with one Shroomscavate and a card like Theotar, the Mad to potentially disrupt your opponent’s game plan.
Incindius:
Powerful but situational: Incindius is a strong card, but its effectiveness depends on having enough spell damage in your hand.
Consider: If you find yourself not utilizing Incindius effectively, you could replace it with another card that provides more consistent value, such as Malygos or another strong spell damage card.
Living Horizon/Robocaller:
Value cards: These cards can generate significant value, especially in the late game. However, they might not be the most impactful in the early game.
Consider: If you find yourself struggling in the early game, you could consider replacing one or both of these cards with more aggressive options.
General Tips
Mulligan: Mulligan aggressively for early game cards that can help you survive and establish board presence.
Card Draw: Prioritize card draw to find your key combo pieces and fuel your Excavation engine.
Spell Damage: Accumulate spell damage throughout the game to maximize the potential of your OTK.
Board Control: Maintain board control to prevent your opponent from overwhelming you.
Testing and Refinement
Playtest extensively: Play a large number of games with your deck to identify its strengths and weaknesses.
Track your results: Keep track of your win rate and identify any cards or strategies that are underperforming.
Adjust your decklist: Make adjustments to your decklist based on your playtesting results.
I hope these insights help you refine your Lynessa OTK deck! Remember that deckbuilding is an iterative process, so don’t be afraid to experiment and find what works best for you. Good luck!
I have to imagine 2 fossilized kaleidosaurs are better than 2 shroomscavates. That card is awful now.
I think you have too much cross purpose in there. I doubt you need caricature artist if you’re also using grillmaster for the high end tutor… On the same token what is robocaller drawing that all the other draw cards arent… I dont have time to test your deck but which is the better defense… prismatic or living horizon? Having 1 of each seems way too indecisive especially when you can probably get more burn/defense (depending on matchup) from running 2 mixologists.
If this is a test list than it makes sense… otherwise your list is way to indecisive… Figure out which of the 1 offs aren’t good and cut them to make room to put in 2x of the cards that are good.
Tbh I only run 1 living horizon and 1 mixologist during my climb to legend this month(I was low on dust), but I did make that up with 2 cult neophyte,1 resistance aura,1 cold feet
The idea for the shroomscavate was Lynessa can double it but I also find it very sus. The idea for both Caricature and Grillmaster is to accelerate getting Lynessa by round ~8 (it was a feature of the “pure OTK lynessa” netdecks) though it does make the board tempo worse. The 1 living horizon is relatively reliable because with 1 early grillmaster it’s often used at 1 mana but I find Prismatic Beam hard to use.
I might drop Prismatic Beam but I’m generally confused because I see too many alternatives.
I was even wondering if aggro pala + lynessa can be combined (probably not).
I also used 1 Living Horizon because the tutors will likely get it early but then the tutors will have to get Lynessa soon too.
I think I generally want to OTK more (even if it’s not necessarily “statistically best”) while also having a board.
The rough idea is “by round ~8 Lynessa OTK should be up but also have options for a good board”.
Man even with the tempo list I used it’s quite frequent to otk people down from 24-28 health at 5 mana, like literally turn 5. Amitus really help to win games when lynessa has not been drawn yet, just buff your minions +2 and SMOrc, the thing is against meta decks most of the time you have to tempo robocaller (when there is no other alternative for good move) even without dialing number 5, turn 3-5 is quite critical in this meta I think. It’s the turn when handbuff paladin started to use the mech that buffs minions or use the weapon, cycle rogue started to cycle with ethereal oracle, discover hunter started to prepare dropping mantle shaper, druid started to ramp arkonite or drop tortollan or arkonite, etc.
I had removed Amitus at some point, because it felt too slow and defensive to even have it because it was often drawn instead of Lynessa and it is expensive to use. But I was thinking maybe its DRAW power is better here because it can make a cheap Lynessa and a cheap Incindius.
But that may need a redesign maybe with fewer other minions in general.
PS but it’s generally sus to rely on “tutor something specific” because you may draw it on the mulligan with lowrolling.
