I Normally Don't Do This

I normally only do a deck write up once a month. I do it mostly in hopes that someone might find it useful and get to legend themselves. But, I have been playing a deck that I have fallen in love with and have been absolutely demolishing with. It made me want to do an off schedule write up.

The deck in question? Asteroid Shaman. I don’t think I have ever come close to having a win rate like this. As of writing this I am 44-4. My only losses were to; the mirror where my draws were awful, BSM who god curved, OTK mage went off on turn 7, and I can’t remember the last one. That is almost a 92% win rate. I have enough games played where this can’t just be considered high rolling.

The deck plays very much like a midrange deck. It just keeps building up value until the dam breaks and the opponent is swept away.

Pros:
Has answers to aggressive decks with Malted Magma, a hefty amount of 2 drops, and a 3 drop minion that is also removal.
Can chip away at control decks until they just get buried under Asteroids.
Has a strong mid game with Spell Damage or wiping the board with Meteor Storm.
It is brutally consistent.

Cons:
It is not fast enough(most of the time) to stop combo decks that can go off turns 4-6.
Hyper aggressive decks will run you over if you do not see Malted Magma or snipe the board with Asteroids.

I did make a change from the list I posted in the other thread. I prefer this one by far to the other. It is a 2 card change to be honest.

Rocks

Class: Shaman

Format: Standard

2x (1) Murloc Growfin

There is really only one card that could replace this. Miracle Salesman. He can help trigger Spellburst in a pinch and help with draw. I personally do not want to risk diluting the Discover/Draw from Oracle and Triangulate. Having the 8/8s for later have been useful a few times.

2x (1) Novice Zapper

Makes all the spells, Asteroids, and Eruptions hit harder. Obvious inclusion. I have also done a turn 10 Zapper into Malygos plays and it is devastating.

2x (1) Pop-Up Book

Removal. Triggers Spellburst. Gives taunts.

1x (2) Bloodmage Thalnos

Spell damage. Draws a card in a pinch. Still so good after all these years.

2x (2) Cactus Cutter

Draws your spells. Sometimes gets bigger. Starts Asteroid chains.

2x (2) Greedy Partner

I have seen people running Fairy Tale Forest. I have had ZERO trouble getting my minions in hand. Getting the coin to get you to you later stuff or to trigger Spellburst has been invaluable.

2x (2) Malted Magma

This might be one of the best cards in the deck. The amount of games this card has had a massive impact on is insane. With any Spell Damage minion out it just clears any early board.

2x (2) Moonstone Mauler

Makes Asteroids.

2x (2) Needlerock Totem

Draws cards. Helps trigger Greedy Partner.

2x (2) Triangulate

You can tell this card is working EXACTLY as the Devs wanted it to. Getting to Discover an Eruption or Asteroid then shuffling 3 copies in has been amazing. Doing it with an Oracle out has always been so much value.

2x (3) Ethereal Oracle

Potentially the best card in the set. This is not hyperbole.

2x (3) Ultraviolet Breaker

Removal that makes Asteroids. All in one minion.

2x (4) Bolide Behemoth

Makes Asteroids. Makes Asteroids bigger.

1x (6) Incindius

Makes Eruptions. Makes Eruptions bigger.

2x (6) Meteor Storm

Wipes board. Makes many Asteroids.

1x (6) Shudderblock

Helps make even more Asteroids and Eruptions.

1x (9) Malygos the Spellweaver

Instantly wins the game. This is not a joke. Every single time I have played Malygos I have instantly won the game. Unless you have an already mostly full hand he will draw every single Asteroid and Eruption out of your deck.

I’m about to try this deck myself. Thanks for the explanation.

Meteor Storm is worth it in this deck? I’m not sure about this card since it wipes everything.

It has 100% been worth it. The 5 extra Asteroids are sooo good. It can also be essential for wiping larger statted boards.

I dunno, I have been playing a lot of Zarimi priest and every time I see this deck is almost always a win. They just take too long to build up and kill me before I kill them.

Do you generally use the Bolide Behemoth + Shudderblock combo or is the +1/+2 to the damage enough to become dangerous for the opponent?

I’ve honestly barely played him. I just have been letting him rip if I have an opening for the 6 mana.

Good to know, thanks!

This is why we need steamcleaner back in core

44 wins and 4 losses is amazing. Don’t know anything of the deck, have no desire to play Shaman. Just offering a congratz for playing so well to get 44 dubs and 4 losses lol.

I was feeling pretty good over my deck that was 5-0 but when I went to play my 6th match (another DK, what’s with the kids and DK?) I had a disconnect for some reason on HS and was forced to lose :frowning:.

It’ll be interesting to see the next 450 games as the algorithm catches up. Expectation is it will land somewhere about 250 wins out of 500. Keep playing and let us know!

See, this is why I insist on rank posting.

44-4 winrate in vacuum might sound great, however, it’s a meaningless number which represents nothing real.

It’s only possible when playing on a new account/new server

It’s definitely not possible in mid to high legend.

If you started the grind from rank 4000, for example, with that score you’d be top 200 now, and I’m failing to find you on the Leaderboards, like, anywhere. And I mean, I can’t see your name anywhere.

We really kinda do need to know the very important fact you’re omitting on purpose.

EDIT: Found you at rank 9700+ on NA server

So for anyone better than the worst Legend on NA, this shouldn’t be of any interest

I can’t possibly fathom how it’s possible to be 9700 rank after going 44-4, but at least we now know how that winrate is, in fact, possible. You were playing against some of the worst players alive.

LOL finally something on these boards that got me to laugh out loud since checking things out again

Seriously, though, it’s like Daniil Medvedev played a Challenger tournie and then boasted about his 11-0 score

I bet there were kids who could not read what his cards do on his recently played list

Hell, even I can’t force myself to read all of it, I rather learn from experience

Altair: 44 wins though should still give a decent MMR, but maybe they started losing at the final 4 games.

Also you don’t have to believe them that they did 44-4 either.

I would love to see a matchup spread for this win rate. This deck has been well known for a while now and has plenty of data.

It has a 45% win rate against Hunter and Mage. It’s 40% against Shaman and it gets absolutely destroyed by Paladin with only a 30% win rate.

On the other end though it has a win rate of 60% against Druid, DH, Rogue and Dk.
It’s 65%+ against Priest and Warlock. Against Warrior it’s nearly 80%

So yes it’s good against what it should be beating but the two classes being played the most destroy this deck. So i would really like to see what their matchup spread was.

I can believe this rate if he got the favorable matchups the whole time.

But the game is not rigged?

I am not talking about if a game is rigged or not. I am merely curious if his matchup spread is tilted toward the classes that aren’t being played as much. Players that have made legend and don’t care about ending rank for the month are notorious for playing weird decks after making legend. I am guilt of it as well. I play what i think is fun and i know many others that do as well.

If i was to guess he got a more common bell curve of classes to face at his legend rank then you would climbing through D5-Legend.

Against Zarimi? I think I have lost to this like a couple of times on my climb to legend with Zarimi priest. And it was a long climb, since I was at gold with no bonus stars and saw a lot of these.

This doesn’t hold a candle next to the real meta, priest included.

Those are the general %'s. I didn’t look it up by specific deck. Aggro priest certainly would be a great deck against Asteroid IMO. Any pure aggression is a hard deck for that one to beat.

I barely touched standard since hitting legend week 1 of the month. Since then all I did was test DH a few days ago then play this deck. Between decay and testing I dropped significantly. But, here is the interesting thing. It has begone pairing me against people 2000+ rankings above me. So, the algorithm has in fact started catching up.

I find it weird that people always assume I post these trying to brag or say I am some amazing player. I state it very clearly in the post, I am simply trying to help some people hit legend. Nothing more. Nothing less. This is a deck that I think many people who have trouble hitting legend could hit legend with.

I only play for a few hours a week. Even with this kind of win rate it is impossible for me to beat rank decay with how little I play standard.
