Im gonna first off say, mage as a CLASS is okay balanced. A tad overtuned imo, but there’s worse classes out there right now.
HOWEVER since the release of that new mini set its like everybody and their gran plays mage (especially Wild) and seeing 40% of my matchups go to secret/5x Time Warp mage again, just with 10 more hp ( more secrets for secret mage) and 10 more cards than before while drawing practically the same makes me want to self induce a fatal stroke.
I think it’s about time to make Grey Sage Parrot only work with spells that cost 6 or more, and maybe tone the secret mage down abit on several fronts? I mean right now you can practically make EVERY single 39 slots in your secret mage deck have secret synergy, is that what we need in this meta? :’) cause i can hop on anti secret tech but i rather take druid over that any day…
Not mill druid tho. That sh*t needs to be killed with fire (my opinion)
Looks like it might become an aggro/mill/mage meta right now…
Honest and polite thoughts?

Blizzard dropped the ball years ago. Now its just being kicked around with no idea where to put it.
They keep releasing new broken omgwtf cards and leave them in the wind. They dont know how to balance the stuff they put out and doubt they are very interested in doing so either. Just hop on to the next expansion. Need to print the next wave of omgwtf cards. The old ones already released? Who cares. Therws money to be printed.
Mage was far worse about a month ago. It was literally perma freeze from turn 2 until the end, every single turn. Now it’s about every other turn, maybe a bit more. Biggest problem I have with mage is Solid Alibi. For a class that has the best stall in the game, this was a completely unnecessary card for the class, and let’s not talk about counter minion…

In wild there are so many secret techs that secret mage won’t be more problematic as it was in the past.
It may be stronger thanks to the miniset, but I don’t think it’s unbearable like the old ignite or mozaki mage (which needed nerfs)
I think Mage is one of the least of Wild’s problems.
But the Parrots? All of them are dumb, as is Brann, as is
anything that allows you cheat so much mana.
solid alibi is fine. what isnt fine is the 9 mana drop in hunter that pulls every beast from the deck, which means you cant play for board late game against them but if you dont play for board you lose. hunter needs a nerf harder than anything right now. the deck is so consistent. i agree with OP about secret mage, it feels really bad to play against. a couple nudges for secret would be
Contract Conjurer - bump it to 7 mana so it still costs 1, or make it a 5/5
Orion - change to 2/4, give him +1/+2. the nature of secrets makes him a extreme pain to deal with in the early game. counterspell, objection, judgement, oasis ally all make him stick to the board and its gg at that point.
dont get me started on the parrots. sure bump the mage parrot to 6 cost spells. or even 8 (removing mass poly from the pool)…but the shaman parrot? i dont think it should be able to copy big D’s infuse damage. they need to make it so it is the base effect of the battlecry in all cases. especially because shaman’s identity revolves around either transforming minions or battlecries.
I dont know the wild scene because I only play standard, but I can only imagine the shenanigans that these cards bring with the older sets.

Yes, quest mage is better than it should be. You shouldn’t be able to cheese aggro matchups by playing 4 ice blocks then doing exodia on turn 6

That’s because of the parrots and brann etc, right?

A class with the best stall in the game did not need even more…stall, period. Stop complaining about Beast Hunter. It’s not that broken, it’s counters are just super low tier right now (Warrior & Pally)

The issue is that they don’t work against the new secret.
It’s going to eat those minions, before the Battlecry resolves, and they cost 4 mana, so it’s not feasible to run those minions anymore.

Secret mage is not infallible. It loses really often to Totem Shaman.
I know first hand.
This entire thread reads like the same old mage hate as always.

You are making your own version?
Or are you using a Top Legend list?
Historically, Secret Mages have countered Even Shaman and Odd Paladin. I don’t want to call it too early, but the top lists are running more cards now to counter board based opponents. It’s easy to make a deck worse. I sure trust myself to make decks worse and not better.

This deck loses to Wildseed hunter, Totem shaman, and Mill druid, to name a few.
If OP isn’t beating it with those decks it is because of draw, or because they are a bad player.
Just another whine thread.
I literally just lost on turn 4 to a Swordfish Rogue.
The OP is full of poop.

You didn’t answer.
Where are you getting your deck list from?

Word: Mage is winning more than it loses in Wild. Need to kill it immediately.
I see a mage getting offended again. Typical.
You literally state 3 decks that could counter some imaginary decklist i didn’t talk about. You just make an assumption i’m talking about just 1 specific decklist while i’m on about a bigger balancing issue. So first of all depending on exactly what decklist your counterdecks could be fundamentally untrue in the first place.
Example 1:If i play a full spell mage and get the least amount of mana cheat in my hand, mill druid will be doing me favors all game. Especially if i would include the Dawngrasp quest and 2x Echo to get the 6 extra spell dmg. Reduce my deck with arcane inflow even once and i’ll burn your face faster than you burn my deck.
Example 2:If you lose to a wildseed hunter as a freeze exodia mage you just need to change your decklist cause you are able to cripple them to just hero powering and weaponing you down all game. With all game ofcourse i mean turn 6 when you finish quest and can just take 10 turns in a row.
Example 3: Same goes for totem shamans, even more so because they very likely don’t have anything for your ice blocks and ice barriers. Nothing to counter freezes either and all the burst is from the board. If you lose to that you literally just need more freeze spells and you’ll breeze right through. Twin Freeze or whatever it’s called will do you wonders, also for quest completion.
Second the way you’re defending the class it’s easy to see you’re a main abuser of its rich combos. When my board is frozen for 4 turns after which they take 6-7 turns consequently, what draw exactly should be helping me? And the only option besides that would just be me being a bad player full of human feces?
My friend you need to be shipped off in the looney van for a permanent stay.

And you need to stop pretending whatever you are playing isn’t just as busted and dumb.

That’s a very subjective observation so i’ll just give u a clear example;
The most ‘degenerate’ deck i think i have is one of my own creation, a rogue deck which can generally OTK you at 6-7 with deathrattle manipulation into burn a big burn face combo. God hand it will OTK you at 5, 4 with coin. It keeps me at a steady 56% WR through this expac. It’s on no list online and not considered a viable deck and even similar archetypes are rarely played.
You can think of that what you want, you have 1 card to completely ruin that entire deck and you most likely run 2 copies of it. I will just use that as an ‘example’ of some mage cards that are too good for their respective cost and rarity and rest my case at that.
