I can't win any ranked games anymore

After the latest update, I won most games all the way to gold, rank 10. It seemed overly easy for my skill level. Once I got there, I stopped winning almost completely. I average about one win per 10-15 games I play now, if that.

I’ve tried multiple characters, swapped up decks endlessly and tried to maintain a good attitude about losing every game, but I’m beginning to not have much fun anymore. I am literally posting here for the first time just to see if anyone else is having any similar experiences.

I guess what I’m wondering is, what happened exactly? Did they change the ranking structure to make it more difficult? Did I just have bad luck and get stuck in a rank I shouldn’t be in? Thanks for your time.

You probably hit your ranking floor. Take a rest, if you run out of stars bonus then the grind starts. Now if you are running a sub par deck or non meta is tougher still specially when all decks you run into play the same way. That´s why I stick to casual, if I see any deck I don´t feel like to play against I concede and move on, plus people actually make decks, most don´t net deck same old stereotypes…

Makes sense. I’m playing against folks that are all doing the same thing now. Especially priests who just Rez everything over and over. I always try to come up with my own decks and try new things. I guess the rank I’m at isn’t the best for experimentation. Thanks for the comment.

I was noticing games feeling a little harder, so I guess the system is working.

Used to be, I’d ride back up to rank 5 with a few winstreak wins to help and then retire to do janky decks for the month.

Now, I’m winning less. I shot through the ranks on a giant winstreak, and around Platinum my wins started dropping. Diamond 10 started to feel like a Legend push - but I was still earning 2 stars per win, so even though my winrate had taken a nosedive, I climbed to Diamond 5 eventually.

It took me far longer than I used to getting to rank 5, but because of earning 2 stars per win and only losing 1 per loss, it was inevitable that I’d hit Diamond eventually. Grindy is the word I’d use - like I was guaranteed to get there eventually, but it would take awhile.

The climb also felt more serious. Janky decks were absolutely gone - every match was Hourlock, Quest Mage, Secret Mage, Mech Paladin, Pirate/Gala Warrior. Met one Secret Paladin, two Razakus, and two Evens Shamans at those ranks, but everything else was Mage, Warlock, and Mech Pally or Pirate Warr. Saw a single Rogue the whole climb, and it felt like I was the only one running a Hunter.

Looks like if you’ve already been to a rank previously, you can get it back thanks to the star bonuses, but your winrate may not be higher than 50%. I suppose that might be the system working right? A competitive match every round, but you still rank up eventually? But man, feels like a slog.

Interesting :stuck_out_tongue:

I was matched with one of the players on my friend list while I’m bronze and he has already attained legend. So i fighting the big boys right out the gate.

But that is the same story under the old system when you are climbing 4 to L after getting reset from L.

If you think about it, you could tank your mmr to play in the lower mmr band while still getting to diamond or legend each month for the rewards. But there is a floor to which you can tank each season so you have to do it over the course of a few seasons.

I can’t remember the exact post so I can’t link it, but IIRC a blue said that trying to intentionally tank your MMR by conceding wouldn’t work (can’t remember the details, sorry )

You pushed your rating too high. Keep loosing until your MMR fall down to acceptable level. And as stated above - conceding won’t help with that.

Good luck next expac. A lot of people will be experimenting with the new cards.

I’ve encountered the same problem for days and I’ve given up. I’m losing so much it isn’t even funny anymore, if I do win I get 1 star, lose the next two games, win one, get a disconnect win, go to two stars, lose two games, win one repeat. I’m always at 0 or 1 star, and if a third win happens I lose or they insta concede and I don’t even get a star. That isn’t a grind, its just a wall. Its the same classes and deck every time. I played 6 res priests in a row, with counters to pollute their minion pool, still lost every time because of Khaurtu Defender. Next day I had 5 Secret Mages in a row… every single one of them played Explosive Runes as their first secret of the game AND their second secret. It felt buggy as hell and no matter what I did or played felt useless. Feels like I hit Platinum rank 5 and now I don’t have to play for a month… because there is no f-ing point. I like a challenge, I like to grind, I don’t want to be FORCED to use these decks and heros. There is enough variety in this game to be able to play other things for Christs sake, especially in wild.

Yeah. You and are in the same boat. I feel you.

You can tank it. But there is a cap on how much mmr you can drop per season

I’m not a fan of this new system personally. As a casual who does not play a lot there is major gaps in the card advantage of the people I am put with. The last system i sat between 15-10 an had very good matches.

Gonna day my bonus stars stopped at platinum 3, have grinder to diamond 6 twice now and sit two wins away from diamond 5

its a prime example of pay to win, if you are not a freak or put money in it u‘ll lose

You just have to grind out the bad streak.

Well, in my experience, i’m okay with being stuck in gold rank. Reaching legend doesn’t interest me and i’m just playing decks that are fun to me. Been playing this game for WAY too many years and can craft any broken meta deck but i’m perfectly content currently playing with my 44% winrate Priest deck. It’s funny how hsreplay is reliable with its stats almost to the dot. It shows the priest is at the bottom with 43.4% winrate and with my over 200+games with nothing but legendary minions and spells i’m sitting at 44%.

honestly, legend and any competitiveness is a joke with this game at the moment.

If you honestly want to feel like you are playing a legitimate competitive game then I suggest you go somewhere else.

It’s a slotmachine generator. It’s like making coinflipping competitive.
Well, to be fair it’s more like real life rock paper scissors. It still involves a bit of inteligence and cognitive predictive thinking but at the end of the day even if you have the upper hand, it can all just collapse if your opponent drew the “gotcha” card. Then you counter his gotcha, and he counters yours, etc…
