Going through the top deck lists shows some truly crazy combos. My theory is that the devs didn’t forsee some combinations, but they think it’s wrong to change them later. If you think about it, it’s not too fair on the players that discovered them. The trade-off for a slightly imbalanced game is that ‘beating the developers’ is rewarded. Of course it sucks to vs. copy pasted decks though. Maybe we can think up counters, if they exist? That’s probably the point of the game lol
They don’t nerf cards often because that’s admitting they screwed up, and they won’t do that because of ego
In my opinion, it’s worse than you think. Hordes of psychologists and psychiatrists study the cards and the game system, inducing a mixture of frustration and hope in players’ minds that, like a rigged slot machine, leads to the unbridled purchase of arena tickets, cards, and anything that could “make you win.” Blizzard is much smarter than you think and manipulates your time and your mind in much more subtle and invisible ways. Even the nerfs are just a way to fool you into thinking they’re listening to complaints, but those too are planned before the current expansion is even released.
I think they should nerf lots of cards. The game is not fun or interactive very often. When you just sit there helplessly watching some dude play his deck and literally nothing you did mattered in the slightest to him, it feels bad and it’s probably because a card or a particular combination of cards is poorly designed.
And the excuse of, well, then no one would play that card is a weak one. So? Anyone seen Timewinder Zarimi lately? King Plush?
Nerf cards. Nerf often. Nerf more of them. The design team is too timid and lacks foresight.
They don’t playtest, and they don’t nerf, because that would cost money.
The answers are much simpler than what you are searching for.
because they are terrible at their job. there is your answer.
Trust your old uncle Mal.
The answer is money…
Because if you nerf a certain set of cards… that just means new cards become more powerful and then need to be nerfed… and it creates an endless cycle to where you’re stuck playing wisps and penguins because everything else is unplayable due to being nerfed out of existence.
Plus consumers dont like the bait and switch after a while… I bought a card on the expectation that it does this… and 3 weeks later it no longer does anything at all.
That’s why when a card is nerfed you can dust it for full refund
Well if I enjoy a deck that features a certain card and then that card gets nerfed and destroys the whole deck… xxx dust is hardly a consolation prize. I lose the enjoyment from playing the deck and theres 1 less deck being faced on ladder so the variety disappears.
Nerfs should be a last resort… standard would be a lot more fun with a bunch of expansions worth of viable cards… rather than whatever cards weren’t nerfed from the current expansion
