I asked an AI to design Festival of Legends cards

I asked the most advanced AI language model out there (we all know the name, I am just not naming it in case there’s some weird ToS brand thing I dunno about) to design Hearthstone cards for Festival of Legends. I took its suggestions and made a custom card from them. The results are… pretty cool actually. I took the idea from a Reddit post and I thought we could make this a trend. Here are the results:

First, I asked it to make a warrior legendary card. Here I walked all the extra mile and I showed the AI all of the cards revealed for warrior so far for this set. Then, I asked it to make a card that supports some or all of these cards. I only reworded the textbox to add a bit of drama, and reduced de mana cost (it wanted it at 8 mana lol) but the effect is purely as the AI suggested. Here is the result:

Improved Riffs:

  • Verse Riff: Give your hero an extra +2 attack
  • Chorus Riff: Minions drawn have an extra +2/+2 and Rush
  • Bridge Riff: Summoned Rockers have Divine Shield.

It even gave me a flavor text: “When Skarn brings his pick down, the earth shatters and the crowd roars.”

I think it is kind of hilarious that the AI thought the Riffs are so bad they need to be improved somehow.

Next, I went for a Druid Legendary. Why? well, I just didn’t really vibe much with the druid legendary and I think the whole package, while cool, doesn’t seem very hippie at all. So this time, I didn’t show it any cards, I just explained it the vibe. I asked it to make a hippie music themed legendary with “a fun and creative effect”. I only changed the name because it originally suggested “Lyra the Peacekeeper” and we already have a priest legendary named Lyra. Everything else is exactly as suggested.

And these are the drums:

Flavor text: Woodspock shakes their tambourine and fills the air with love, turning even the fiercest enemies into mellow percussionists."

I just think this card is SO COOL now I am just sad I can’t actually play it.

So that’s all, I just wanted to share this cause I thought it is so cool. If anyone else wants to have a go at this, could be a fun trend. I do recommend the latest version of the you-know-which AI model. It is for subscribers only but it is just so much better than it was.

What do you think? Devs beware, right?

edit: fixed a typo in the warrior legendary.

I don’t want you to get into trouble, but I don’t think you’d get into any for sharing the program. Can anyone set us straight here, please?

I just tried downloading one on my phone. The program created a card from my typing ‘hearthstone festival of legends card’. The program made me a card, pretty neat, but the text was unintelligible, the human minion* had seven fingers one on hand, etc. It’s pretty neat, to me, because I have never bothered with this AI stuff. Oh, and the app (on my phone) starryai.

If anyone can suggest to me a good AI that can create cards as seen in the OP?

(*Why isn’t ‘human’ a minion type?!)

Yeah I also don’t think it is a problem. If anyone has any info on that, I will just delete this response and keep the thread up.

To get to this result I had to work a tiny bit, the AI can’t straight up create a full card as shown here, but here’s how to do it:

The AI I used is chatGPT-4. Googling it should be enough to find it, it’s very popular. You can use chatGPT-3 for free but it is just a little bit dumber so the result might not be as smart. The better version is currently for subscribers only.

This is a text-based AI, so you just input a question and it gives you a result on text. The more directions you give, the better the result. I recommend giving instructions to it as if you are sending an email to an intern. That actually works really well lol.

Then, it will write a card for you. Then you just can go here: https://www.hearthcards.net/ And fill it all up with what the AI made for you. I searched the art on google (kudos to pinterest artists out there) and voila!

Did the AI also create the art? If so that is far more impressive to me than the text. If you are referring to the same AI that I’m thinking of, I know that one makes mistakes in reasoning/logical thinking about 50% of the time, so can’t be trusted with any task requiring logical processing.

Radagon from Elden Ring is a fake Warrior legendary, cool.

Also it’s a real shame this isn’t the actual legendary minion. Riffs could be cool if they were playable instead of a parasitic package with no synergy except between themselves and harsh play order restrictions.

No.

Yep this is a thing. Nice thread btw.

Curious to see where this will go in the future. I do think the top human designers still beat ai. When it comes to both the idea and the execution.
But ai is definitely at the level of design that is a bit below the absolute top. And with so many cards to design i can see this becoming an atractive option for developers. It will at the minimum be used to help give designers some inspiration and ideas.

The art is the “easy” part. Ai can definitely create this quality of art and better (stable diffusion, look it up to see some results).
The text i think is far more impressive and difficult. Because the text has to make sense within the context.

Prob what the devs are using now to pitch their ideas… since blizz wants to cut all costs… :joy:

a few peeps and more bots :joy:

design 5% key cards and ask the bots to fill 95%a with filler cards.
tada next expansion.

I don’t know if he actually used it or not, but they have an art generating AI, as well. I’ve yet to delve into it, but if it’s at all like GPT-4 as I’ve been using, it should generate you a card just as such.
