So, another mini set where Mage gets nothing.
And a set where Hunter gets a secret package that, had it been given to Mage, would have caused unceasing screams on this forum.
Y’all can deny all you like. Were Mage given the secret package that they just gave to Hunter, everyone here would be complaining about how unfair it was.
Mage now will not have a single deck that is competitive in Wild, and I highly doubt that Standard will be viable either.
Hearthstone should always have at least one competitive deck per class.
But instead, Mage has none, while just as an example, Rogue has 5 or more in Wild.
The Secret deck I played in Wild is officially dead, thanks to Hunter being given the support that Mage truly deserved.
You are not the spokesperson for mage players on this forum. And your preferred playstyle is not the playstyle everybody else must follow if they want to enjoy playing mage.
Are you the other side of mage players?
Do you like the casino support?
As a mage player I agree that this mini-set is a joke. And everyone is allowed to voice their opinion on it. People that like it and people that don’t. Why must we ridicule people for having an opinion?
Rather than focusing on the person making the thread let’s focus on the topic.
I think people are exaggerating about those mage cards. That 2 mana control spell is a perfect tool to any no minions mage deck going forward. Pretty much an auto-include, and no minions is pretty much guaranteed to be good at some point in the next 2 years. It has 5 sets of new spells to wait for, some of which might support the no minions condition too.
The frost copy spell is fine, better than Reverberations in some contexts and sinergies, worse in others. For 3 mana you stall a minion and summon a full copy of it that your opponent has to deal with or else you attack with it next turn, possibly trading it into its copy. Is that a bad card? Don’t think so.
The casino minion isn’t bad either. You likely won’t put this into a deck but you will see it summoned off Spot the Difference very often. You’ll be surprised by how much value it can instantly generate if not dealt with.
Are these the best cards imaginable? No. Are they bad? Don’t think so. It’s probably gonna be middle of the pack in the overall miniset. I don’t think it justifies getting worked up about it. Minisets don’t often bring stuff that instantly click entire archetypes together, like they did with hunter. They usually bring some useful, standalone tools to work with.
Is there any other class that We have to speculate this far ahead on?
My point wasn’t that mage doesn’t have secrets. (it doesn’t, but not the point.) It is that it has nothing at all that is viable that I can see.
I will be amazed if the new cards change mage’s tier rankings at all.
So you are saying that if mage players just hold on for two years, then they can maybe have a viable deck?
Seriously?
What I would want is a core mage card printed. And I mean core as in class identity to a mage player.
A card strong but not nerfed and allowed to become a thing in mage to step away from the reliance to random and discover.
What I want is a spell that reads:
2 mana
Your next spell casts twice.
Just some genuine good support to this class finally. Enough with the situational stuff that only gets nerfed.
No, I’m just saying the cards they got this miniset are ok. It’s a matter of expectations. They are not supposed to suddenly fix all of mage’s problems because these cards were designed and worked on at the same time the rest of the set was. They had no way of knowing mage was going to be in such a poor spot when the miniset hits. By now they are probably working on the last expansion of the year and the next set, miniset included, is finished.
Mage is doing bad now and it got some mid, ok-ish cards in the miniset. That’s unfortunate, but the baseline isn’t hopeless. It has some good foundations to be pretty good and fun with further support. And they might not release any good secrets, idk. I know you enjoy playing secret mage but I don’t think that’s what mage is about anyway. Hunter has better secrets now, that’s just how things are, mage can have other nice things soon hopefully. Every class goes through rough times. Rogue is my favorite class and it has been treated extremely poorly lately too.
That sounds incredible. I doubt they would ever give mage anything that good, but it sounds great:)
play Wild. Rogue is well nigh unbeatable there, with more choices than I can name here.
And I swear I am not trying to minimize your opinions, but I have heard this same thing repeatedly for years, that team 5 is making cards for some future point in mage.
I don’t believe they are.
I think what will happen is they will abandon no minion at some point and start over.
Anyone who doubts that is welcome to take a hard look at every past expansion of the past five years.
Team 5 has given mage disparate playstyles that do not synchronize with one another for years now.
It’s the reason that mage has no viable decks in Wild, while your favorite class has five at least.
Well I don’t know if it’s good or overpowered or whatever but I like regular good cards.
I remember browsing the customcards website one day and my favorite mage card there was:
2 mana Spell
Spell School: Fire
Deal 4 damage.
I loved it.
Yes, you love broken power spell damage from hand… which is basically printing unstoppable charge minions.
That card would read
That Salesman nerf was criminal.
It should have been hotfix reverted day 1 of the nerf.
But I guess if you reverted that and made rainbow good again; how would you force mage players to try spell mage whether they like it or not. How is it that they need to force archetypes down your throat nowadays. Unironically, why wild is better. 1000 cards and only one viable deck for each class is a joke.
i think 2 mana deal 4 to any target is becoming more and more possibly a balanced card for mage to have… or manathirst it maybe 3 to 4
There are no 2 mana cards in standard that do four damage.
Putting in a class that discounts spells and increases spell damage is a recipe for disaster.
I mean, sure, you can have it. It will be hotfixed in two weeks though.
Edit: You can finagle crescendo to do that, but it also damages you.
I have never even considered this as motive.
I just figured that mage was popular, and this was team 5’s way of reducing play rates without having to nerf cards regularly.
No it wouldn’t.
When Lifesteal is written on everything that 4 damage is miniscule.
Even the two mana weapons have three or less damage.
I get where you’re coming from, but more spell damage from your hand for less mana is not how mage gets fixed. Quite the opposite, honestly.
Yeah well it’s probably both. xD
Mage never gets lifesteal, cause why?
It isn’t part of it’s brand, I guess?
It’s hilarious to me how the design team picks and chooses when to enforce class roles lol.
Yeah because they care about that obviously. xD
This team is known for keeping class identity and not stumbling over themselves.
I am thinking of the Plague card that DK has.
Surely those 2 Plagues that get shuffled could substitute for the 1 damage increment.
