I’d like to share an observation I’ve made during my games:
(Disclaimer: I love Duos. I love the interaction with another player, with all their joy and pain. I’m not complaining about clown teammates.)
I’m around 6800-6300 MMR (fluctuating), and it’s very common for me to alternate between winning streaks—mostly from hard-fought matches—and losing streaks, mostly because my ally lacks basic meta knowledge.
This way, victories feel hard-earned, while defeats feel hopeless—if you know what I mean.
It’s very strange; it feels like after 5 or 6 victories, the system has to equalize my rating.
(Disclaimer 2: I know this is probably just my perception, but I’d like to hear feedback from other players.)
edit: Another possibility is that after a certain MMR, the meta shifts, and in reality, I’m the clown who can’t adapt!
“When I win it’s skill, when I lose you cheated”
The mantra of the scrub since time immemorial.

I am not saying that… but that type of criticism is predictable and even understandable.
I would like to underline that I was a 7k MMR player even in solo, and I have never perceived that pattern. However, in duo, it’s always:
6300 → win streak → 6800 → lose streak → 6300, and so on. It is quite predictable, actually.
I think that it must be my perception and not reality… Still, here I am, looking for feedback.
If you’re not saying it why did you say it?
Your criticisms are also predictable and even understandable, especially in regards to duos. It’s easier to rationalize away a loss as not your fault when you’ve got a conveniently anonymous teammate to blame.
Those fluctuations mean that you belong to the MMR you’re currently at, so every win streak gets you over the top, matches you against tougher opponents, and then that leads to a loss streak and falling under your normal MMR, etc, etc
Not getting to such a position in a game with MMR means you’re not playing enough, or you’re playing half-conscious from too many drugs and alcohol.

There are 2 exceptions to this. The best player online will only match with worse players and the worst player online will only match with better players. In practice you don’t have to be the best or the worst player for it to happen because the best few hundred and the worst few hundred will realistically match some of the time with players who can only raise or lower their MMR accordingly (on average).
